__:Dvoriack's SB:__ my try to keep motivation up | New update!
I've decided to start a sb beccause i need some motivation (hope it helps ) and c&c on my "work" . Since its the first time i post here at ca, I thought I should introduce myself:
I'm a 15yrs old guy from southen sweden, atvidaberg to be precise=). I've painted for fun for about 2 years. I hope to become a concept artist in the future, but at the moment it seems like my dreams will stay as dreams. And my parents are also trying persuade me to become something else(they give me comments like "it hardly seems probable that you will become a concept artist" and so on), so I start to wonder if its worth trying.
"old" images posted first:
Two demons/wierd animals drawn 05-06. About 30-45min each.
Some characters drawn a few days ago. 20-40min each
First vehicle with wheels i
ve ever drawn
And a very bad attempt to paint in painter with my trust 1200-v2 tablet. Will buy a wacom some time in the future.
Hope the pictures did't hur your eyes to much.

Nice start for a sketch book! : ) looking good, and my advice...dont let anyone tell you what you should and shouldnt do with your life, if this is what you have a passion for, pursue it. And of course its a possibility, your only 15 and these sketches look great! like your style, you have confidence in your strokes.
not much to crit, but I'd recomend hitting the anatomy some, and I'd love to see more of your stuff. : )

Good start there Dvoriack! I agree with Halos Chain that if you love to draw then you should follow your dreams and just go for it. I see good stuff here also, especially those plane sketches! Drawing from life will make you a much better artist. Hope this helps and good luck bro!

Hi and tanks for the replys!
Thank you! I know that i shouldn't listen to them, but its kind of hard not to care. Anatomy..=/ I've said to myself that I have to learn some for over a year.
Hopefully you will some anatomy sketches in the near future .
thanx for the reply man.
Thx! The future=/. It's that that makes the decision so hard. If you should lay down so much energy on it if you then can't make a living out of it in the end. Not so fun to wake up 20 years later and broke. As it seems now its worth the risk, but its a long way to go.
Not much of a update.

Not much of an update..
Maan I'm in serious need of help! Anatomy is killing me ! I was trying to paint some figures but they looked like ****, so if somebody have tips on good books, sites or whatever, feel free to post them.
After that I drew a few hands wich looks kind of odd, but they are the first three hands I've ever drawn.. Actually the one of the first drawings from life I've ever drawn.
Not proud to show them:
Some very small figures:
And some fast drawn vehicles:

For anatomical questions/help i go to http://www.tsofa.com/forum/index.php
Michael Mentler is almost like a personal teacher there + you can find a lot of links to other stuff about anatomy.

Great start, definitely looks like you've got what it takes to become a conceptartist in the future, dont let parents put you down.
Keep up both the imagination and from life studies, they compliment each other in the longrun.
Go out and draw from life, pick up an anatomy book and study it, you gotta work hard to be serious in your goals. Immerse yourself in your work, put your life and your mind on paper and you'll go far!

Thanks for the kind words man. I will do as you say sir
And now to todays work..
60min environment sketch in ps. The second environment i ever painted, so I'm quite happy with it.
Random studdies, mostly from a Loomis book.
And some scribbles, drawn during school
Feel free to comment.

Halloj! Tack för orden. Jag vill inget hellre än att bli concept artist, så här blir det måla av
I hadn't so much to do by lunchtime so I sat down and tried photoshop. I stopped 4h and three images later
First a little warm-up
Then a 1,5 h painting of something
I'm acually a bit proud of this image. It took 2h and 15min to paint. You might see that the left "collumn" looks like a totem pole, its actually a happy accident. I was going to save the (finished) image when I saw that it was very alike a totem pole, then abracadabra + some paint. Tada!
And some random scribbles.

Great stuff, I like your speedy!
hm, I fell like you could improve 10x faster if
You just had the patience to make some studies..
like the reflecting sphere, but alot more detailed..
the anatomy studies in your last stuf is very good, conceptual, but
not so good as studies, the lines are very rough, and you dont
seem to spend any time on watching! Seems like you kinda more
like to have it done, do it with quality!
One , 2 hour studie beats 200, 20 seconds !
I really hope you get that, since I didnt in the beginning
I dont mean that you should make 1-2 hours of studie
instead of doodling, but alot of variations..
Cause after you have done 1 long-borring studie, You
will get alot better 20 seconds !
so it pays off!
I promise, keep it up man, I dig your work so far!

my parents can't even believe some people actually work as concept artists. But i don't care, keep motivated, keep practicing, and it will all pay back one day.Certainly i'm not an expert, but i'm taking the same route, and I have the same hope in life, so i gotta keep myself motivated too
Keep posting, practice anatomy, you're doing great

That sounds exactly as my parent, but I will prove them wrong
I will try to do as you say.. sir..
Woke up early, but instead of trying to sleep more I another landscape.
It took about 90 min to paint
I will probably post some updates later on this day.

hey man as others have already said if you really want to be a concept artist DONT give up on that. Your 15 years old you have a long, hard road ahead of you, the guys that post in this place didnt flop out of there mothers private parts drawing digital master pieces, the reason they are so good is because they drew for 13 hours a day, everyday. If this is somthing you truely love then you could happily be one of the best concept artist in the idustry in 10 years time, the only person stopping you from being that would be you, at least thats wat i tell myself everyday.
as far as your current level of art is at you have weak and strong parts from wat ive seen but ur strong parts are really strong given ur age, like ur digital enviroments, im keeping an eye on this thread and i promise you that if u really want it, then you can get there its just up to u and the amount of effort u put in.

Thx for the comments! You've just made may day!
Thx. Tackar för länken
Thank you WolfBane! Comments like these make it much easier to keep on painting
I hope that it is like you say, because I'm telling myself the same thing. As It seems now I would draw 25h a day if I could.
First another environment. I got inspired by a photo in fooxoo's sb.
And some random scribbles

Not much of an update today, but I have loads of homework. Still I was able to do a little digi environment
I didn't have time to fix so the city looks better=/. Hope you like it anyways
May 9th, 2006 #23
I tried to do something else then environments in photoshop, and this was the results. Pretty happy, but as always, it could be better.
And the scribbles.
Hope you like it, and feel free to comment

goog, very good. The enviros look very nice. But maybe, try and challenge yourself even more.Try a full urban one, like the work from Feng Zhu.Remeber you can't avoid things you do't like drawing.I guess, that as a concept artist you'll have to draw what people tell you to sometimes, so try and find something you find really try, sit down and try doing it.About the anatomy studies, did you get loomis books? instead of immediately starting with details (arm muscles n stuff) focus on general gesture.Just get a piece of paper and fill it with different poses, of anytipe, without going itno detail.YOu must be able to draw a cool pose, a dynamic one, and then obviously get it right anatomically (does this word exist?)
Keep working, and don't ever give up
I'll keep watching
May 11th, 2006 #25
Sorry about the lack of update, but I've had tons of schoolwork..
TheGnoll: Thx for the tips! Yea I know i should do that, but I find it so damn hard to draw, but I will se if I could try it this weekend... ..and no, I ain't going to give up!..
this is just i w.i.p of a pic I'm working on.
First try to do a sci-fi scene, and man its hard to do, compared to the normal environments I've done! I will hopefully finish it and add color and more details tomorrow.
May 12th, 2006 #26
I've finished the sci-fi scene , and man it was difficult and tough to paint compared to my normal enivs. I know that the hole painting is kind of warped, but try to ingnore that.
Total time of 3,5h (tumbnail, sketch on paper and digi) If you wonder why I've written my name everywhere is it because i didn't know what to write.
Hope you like it because I'm very satisfied with it..
May 13th, 2006 #27
I totally agree with The Gnoll about your anatomy studies, also the labelling is pretty useful for committing the muscles to memory. Try taking one limb or bodypart, labelling it up then rotating it and labelling again, this way you'll remember the position of the muscles as well as how they interact with each other. Don't be concerned with getting a good quality picture out of your studies, just study for the sake of learning. And keep it up! You're going in the right direction and you've got plenty of time ahead of you.
May 13th, 2006 #28
Just another update:)
Tenelaus: Oki, thx for the tips!
I really should study anatomy, but I haven't been able to get my ass to sit down when I wanted to draw some.. I will probably draw some next week ..
and now to the update:
Hope you like it!
May 13th, 2006 #29
hey, the big sci fi corridor enviro looks just great, really very, very good.Full of refelections, very nice.Well, actually the only thing I don't like is the stuff written on the coloured light (or whatever they area) If you did this in photoshop and the text layer is separated, just do anothr one, maybe with some scifi patterns or something, just about anything but that (even the same stuff in some "alien" font that doesn't look just out of place
I must admit i don't like the last udpade...lack of inspiration?
keep it up dude, I know how you feel
May 14th, 2006 #30
TheGnoll: Thx! aa, now i remember why I souldn't merge all layers all the time, but it shouldn't be that hard to paint over and write something else And I agree with you, I didn't like the last update either
I really don't know what to draw, so the update isn't that big today..
All these are drawn when I was in bed(5am)
And a quick colortest. I don't think I will finish this, dont like it.
