IDW 0010 - Deep sea colonisation vessel.

IDW 0010 - Deep sea colonisation vessel.

    Topic: Deep sea colonisation vessel

Background: Years in the future, space expansion has become par for the course as the human population is allowed to boom unchecked. What took a few thousand years to drive the humans off Earth now takes only hundreds... exploration and colonisation of new planets is essential to the continuation of the race.

As humans expanded out into the universe, they found that a large percentage of planets previously undiscovered were in fact richly endowed with resources, and stable atmospheres. Many of these planets were 'water giants' - planets comprised of over 65% fluid surface.

In order to colonise these planets with a minimum of losses or insurrection, automated deep sea colonisation vehicles were designed and constructed.

Brief: You are to design a vessel capable of fully automated self construction and expansion underwater. It should be able to construct a small colony able to hold up to 100 colonists. It should have some means of self defense, appropriate underwater propulsion and depressurisation systems and so on. The rest, is up to you.

Deadline: Lets make this one a fortnight, until people realise its up and running again, then we can go back to a week. Deadline stands at Saturday 13th May, approx..

    Enjoy

Just talk about it, its like a snowball that you put rolling keeps growing bigger, there are these millions of little details and things you have to keep on adding grrrrr !!! Im now worried in which way will I excecute the final art, just line art and digital or what, I think I might go for vector (even that Im also doing a vector in another thread) because of straight lines

ooorrrr I could do this manually with inks ? scratches her head... Havent been even well got a flue bug from somewhere and now just feeling bored lieing in bed, until I cant sit here anymore then will have to go rest.......feels sorry for herself

What worries me is mostly the space on the maximum size image we are allowed to. As I started thinking about it, there a way too many things to explain with drawings to fit inside that tiny space, especially if we have to write text on it

For the other ones the size is ok but this one takes a lot more explaining to do

dont get too wrapped up in it. Just show what you can show... the rest can just be suggested... as long as it functions as a seaworthy vessel and the body allows for the systems mentioned, your sweet. Dont get too worried about articulating every little detail.

Having said that, get as detailed as you want

I Think I'll try my hand at this one, got a good idea of how my vessel would work, just need to decide which is the best way to illustrate it. I'll probably enter a side-on design schematic, if I can't get a decent looking picture together of it actually in the ocean.

Think of a UFO-style frame, with vaulting support arms embedded in the ocean floor.

looking sweet nii, your def on the track. And yeh basically the crux of the matter is that it should be able to construct the needed facilities without any human assistance whatsoever. Whether it does so by self replication, by already having the needed materials, or by sourcing them in the environment...is up to you.

Holy Shiitte.....I generally avoid this thread as (any one who frequents the DSG can tell you) as tech is not my strong point. this is a fantastic topic. I can wait to see what all you monsters do. what a great idea and such scope.....

Nice concepts Nii, really like the last one.

Hopefully I'll have time to work on this some more, it's looking a bit rough.
IDW 0010 - Deep sea colonisation vessel.
ColonInc's latest deep sea colonising vessel - Doug - has been developed for planets with molten cores. It deploys massive drills to bore to the planet's center. Meanwhile Doug docks above and is supplied with a plentiful source of energy. Depending on the composition of the molten core the cooled elements may be used for construction purposes by the work gangs of droids (droids sold separately, batteries not included). Doug can be maintained as a power station after colonisation is complete, however remember to renew your contract as failure to do so will result in the shutting down of all Doug's systems remotely. In such a case, or in the unexpected failure of Doug's systems, all colonists should be wary of unabated molten flows as, in some cases, they can be detrimental to health.

IDW 0010 - Deep sea colonisation vessel.

    here's my concept...

dozens of survey probes are sent out in advance to locate ideal sites on foreign planets to colonize (usually to mine natural resources). upon positive confirmation of a site, the chosen survey probe drills itself into the ocean floor becoming a "seed". a signal is then sent back up to the automated orbiting construction satellites which then in successive order release giant canisters into the atmosphere, which plumet into the ocean. at point of impact with the water, the canisters are designed to break apart, each releasing thousands of autonomous pre-fabricated component pieces. the self-powered mobile component pieces are then instructed to seek out the "seed's" locator beacon. these component pieces combine into various forms to match the needs of the particular colony's schematics. (there is a redundancy of 30% to account for damaged and/or unrecoverable component pieces).
within a few months, the colony/mining facility is up and running, ready for the arrival of the first colonists.
