    artist: Simonl
    concept:
    Whiskered Cave Grouper
These predators live in subterranean lakes fed by warm volcanic springs. The fish has a formidable array of non visual senses. It has a highly evolved sense of smell and taste plus electro receptors to detect the muscular contractions of prey animals. It uses these passive senses to close to striking range, before lashing the target with it's powerful sonar. This can daze the prey as well as giving the fish a clearer picture of it's target.

    concept:
    Velkarin
This hunter is indigenous to tropical and dense forest environments. Because of it's blindness it's other senses have been hightened and natural selection has worked in favor of aiding in their sensitivity. It has a pig-like nose and bat-like ears to aid it in smelling and hearing its prey. The tail is used for balance and the legs allow it to move very fast. The fur is a dark greenish-yellow that helps this hunter blend in with its environment while stalking it's prey.

    artist: Tyranx
    concept:
    Trasilificus
In the vast oceans of Reemyl IV, the Trasilificus hunts its prey. It is an incredible hunter, especially since it is completely blind. Its eyes are nearly gone now, and only an oval shaped fleshy surface remains of what used to be an eye. While Federation scientists are still trying to piece together what little they know of this incredible predator, they believe that the Trasilificus uses its bio-luminecsent lights on either side of its long neck to help it hunt. As it bites into its prey it releases an electrical charge to immobilize its prey while it rips it apart. the lights also help in courtship as the female of the species can see perfectly and is able to spot the males from hundreds of feet away. Also in a strange twist of nature it is the female that seeks and fights over male Trasilificus.
The incredible planet of Reemyl IV and its planetwide ocean provide years upon years of research to marine bioligists and although there are as many theories as there are scientists, they all can agree on one thing; its vast ocean is a very dangerous place. the Trasilificus which can reach lengths of up to 50ft was long thought to be the top predator in the Reemyl IV ecosystem, but recent sightings of mauled and dismembered Trasilificus floating on the surface has forced scientists to reevaluate what they think they know about this mysterious ocean.

    concept:

Chiropteran Striders are distantly related to bats, though their powerful upper limbs have developed into strong legs instead of wings. This configuration allows a Strider to run and leap after its prey. The lower limbs, so underdeveloped in bats, are instead agile hand-like claws. Chiropteran Striders often stun their prey with a powerful kick and then use their smaller claws to slice open arteries or otherwise cripple a target. The creature uses sound and scent to track and target its prey, having lost its sense of sight completely.

    artist: Snarfevs
    concept:
Opalescent Vampire Riot Quoll - Vampyrodiscorsyurus opalescens Snarfii
The ~60-cm long opalescent vampire riot quoll (actually no relation to any marsupial clade) is a totally blind dusk ground-level predator of the planet Ciqhuetera possessing unusual carbon-silane biochemistry. The riot quoll is so named because of its ability to produce a >170 dB screech by rapidly discharging the gas-filled sacs on the side of its head through its mouth with an astoundingly powerful smooth-muscle contraction, whilst simultaneously producing a prodigious 900 lumen-second flash from the opal-like growths on its chest, which effectively operate as organic LEDs powered by electric-eel-like electroplaques nestled under the abdomen. It makes sense that the riot quoll has lost the use of its eyes as the flash it produces would leave it blinded anyway.
This makes the riot quoll the closest thing to a flashbang grenade nature can muster. Glittering as it stalks the pale dusk light of Ciqhuetera the riot quoll draws curious prey closer, periodically touching its sensitive tail to the ground to detect vibrations. When an animal is near enough the riot quoll strikes, blinding and deafening anything within 10 meters, the echo of the screech providing a detailed snapshot of the surroundings gleaned interferometrically by the sensitive but sturdy piezocrystalline tympanic membranes that project like wings from the quoll's head. The stunning attack can also be used to escape from larger predators. The texture of the riot quoll's chest has a distinct echo signature that signals riot quolls not to eat potential mates.

    concept:

this predatory blind moth drifts through the forest at night on silent wings. Her supersensitive back legs and tail are sensitive to motion, whereas her feathered antenae are sensitive to heat. When she senses a prey animal she drifts down until she can grab the prey with her lightening fast forelegs and bite its head off with her feirsome pincers.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: MIKECORRIERO
    concept:
    Finned A-Wakashi
The Blind Hunter as it's known, a formidable hunter that uses heat seeking sensors along its body to locate prey through pulses sent out along the surface of the ground. This pulse is very much like a bats sensors where it projects a 3-dimensional image inside the A-Wakashi's brain mapping out the lay of the land and picking up on anything living. The heat pulse runs along the ground as well as heading up rocks, trees and over water inside of a 200 foot radius. These pulses are constantly generated unless the A-Wakashi is sleeping. This predator hunts at random whenever nutrition is necessary, it makes no distinction between day or night since it lacks any optical organs. It can sense the difference between fire and a living animal but only through movement.
This predator is in the insect family but it contains a skull and brain as well as an exoskeleton for optimal efficiency and defense. Weighing in at about 30lbs the A-Wakashi is similar in size to the common house cat. One with extreme jaw pressure capable of splitting its jaw and dislocating the lower portion to open at much larger sizes when its small jagged teeth are incapable of cutting up its food source. The small teeth are more for grasping its prey than actually chewing it up. Several areas of this creatures body are protected by spiked thorns which project a small toxic venom, enough to keep its prey or predator stunned while it either escapes or feeds upon the intruder. A-Wakashi were descendants of Japan back in the old ages, they have survived and since then decreased in size and lost their ability to swim, though the fins remain vestigial they are still used for protection.
Extremely Quick, Armored, Extreme Nasal Cavities, Dangerous and Intelligent Hunters.

    concept:
    hell dog
blind hunters are hell-slayer dogs. they were bred to kill suspect gatecrashers.
these dogs don't feel any pain. they are telepathic and have re-growing bones and teeth.
the indomitable creatures are in chains until they are released to go hunt the gatecrasher.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Condottiere
    concept:
    Vorstguult
These viscious creatures have a strong perception of electromagnetism. They have no eyesight or hearing, so they manage to sense their prey by aligning with an area which has a strong electromagnetic output. Living creatures block a certain amount of electromagnetism, and if a Vorstgluut senses this blockage, they will move towards the blockage and attack it. They live somewhat near the poles, where electromagnetism is the strongest.

    concept:
    arctic suffix
arctic suffix. (they came by that name because they are constantly running after something) they dwell & hunt mainly in ice caverns where they utilize a form of short-range echo location to hunt quick rabbit-like prey.
from deep within it's chest, steady bursts of infrasonic sound (generally inaudible to humans), are created and then channeled through the complex network of hollow cavities within its skull. unfortunately for the suffix, their preferred meal is quicker, smarter and can see. so they are forced to chase blindly after their wily prey....which usually ends up in the suffix crashing face first into a wall of ice. luckily, it has a very thick skull and is back on the hunt moments later. eventually, they wear-out their targeted prey with sheer stubborness and seemingly boundless energy.

    artist: Nexus
    concept:
    Tiresadont
The Tiresdadont lacks sight in the normal spectrum of what could be considered vision. However this blind predator is equipped with three sets of nasal passages in place of the typical optical organs. This extensive olfactory system is linked to an advanced neural system which interprets odor, its location, its intensity, etc. much in the same way that the eye interprets the surrounding environment. In this way the Tiresdanot is capable of sight without the use of any occular means. The large nasal passages are often viewed as the Tiresadont's eyes by its unsuspecting prey. Often the Tiresadont can be facing away from its prey and strike without warning since it relies solely on scent and the direction which it is "looking" towards gives no indication as to what it might be focusing upon. In order to further augment the efficiency of this predator the Tiresadont has evolved long tentacle protrusions which aid in determining its surroundings and snaring its prey. It is not uncommon for the Tiresadont to position itself in a low tree branch to lie in wait for a meal and then to snatch the unwitting creature bodily from the forest floor. Despite its lack of eyes the Tiresadont remains an apex predator.

    concept:
    Afto gyometus
This intruder creature and a related species has a paralysing
touch which kills their victims within ten minutes.
They are totally blind and they use their detection
system both to orientate and to prey. They sometimes
use the sense of smell to find their food.
Adult male creature feed on blood whereas female creatures
are notorious for seeking the necrotic meal they needs
to collect enough bacteria to lay eggs.

    concept:
Jaden Leoperthia aka the Jungle Phantom
With nostrils that can smell the scent of prey from 5 miles away, and extremely sensitive ears that can hear small footsteps from even further when it tunes into that direction, the Jungle Phantom does not need (nor have) eyes when it comes time to hunt. Hiding in the trees above, and almost impossible to see with its green fur and black spots against the jungle backdrop, the Phantom leaps down upon unsuspecting prey from large branches. It is extremely quiet, thus earning the name Phantom, and has Limbs 3 times the strength of any gorilla that it uses to catch and shred prey in just the blink of an eye. Then it is back up into the trees where it will feast. Jungle Phantoms do not hunt in packs, but usually many of them can be found within a given area. As they move about they swing their tails in different directions, in order to feel the jungle around them. They are very dangerous to humans and most large animals that might be lurking on the jungle floor below them. Very hard to catch on film, and even harder to physically catch, scientists have no idea how many of them there are, and we know very little about their habits.

The Shell backed Snuffler hunts the forest floor of New Amazonia. The blind creature uses its multiple long tongues to feel its way through the undergrowth, quickly sucking up any small creatures it happens across.

    concept:
    Zelnth (Aires sestus zenthia)
    Diet: Carnivore
Habitat: Lightly forested areas and open foggy or damp areas.
The gas-filled Zelnth, or sometimes called a Blind Hunter, is one of the few natural predators of its kind. It floats stealthily after prey in forested or foggy areas, making absolutely no sound as it very rarely touches anything. It propels itself by expelling gas through a slit at its base, which also allows it to control its altitude.
The Zelnth possesses two unique external pouches, called Clevont (pronounced clay-vont) sacs. Inside these pouches live thousands of microscopic organisms called Clevonts. The Clevonts symbiotically live off the mucus produced within the Clevont sacs. The Zelnth and its Clevonts have a special bond and are able to communicate to a small degree by transferring small electrical nerve pulses back and forth. The Zelnth is completely blind and cannot hear or taste; the Clevonts let it know what is going on around it.
When the Zelnth is within range of its prey, internal valves open to expel the uncountable remaining Clevonts into the air through the long bony tubes that protrude from the Zelnth’s back. So many of the microscopic Clevonts are released that the Zelnth is often completely shrouded by them. The Clevants spread in all directions until the precise location of the prey is found. Instantly, the location is relayed to all Clevonts in the immediate area, passing from one to another until finally the information reaches the sensor on the top of the Zelnth. The Clevonts swarm the creature until the air is so thick with them the prey passes out from asphyxiation. The Zelnth continues at its meticulous pace to the massed Clevonts and the waiting prey. It vomits acid on its prey that digests it at a surprising rate. The Zelnth then consumes the digested material.
The tail of the Zelnth is extremely flexible, very much like a tentacle. It aids the creature in heavily wooded areas, preventing it from becoming stuck or rupturing itself. The Zelnth is surprisingly vulnerable, despite the armor plating on its back. The underside is especially soft. If attacked a Zelnth is a fairly easy target and often dies before any attempt to defend itself can be made. Thus, the Zelnth is careful to avoid its prey during its attack.
Next to nothing is known about Zelnth breeding habits.

    concept: [/B]The Farrwa
farrwa's feed on small mammals that burrow.
they first listen for their prey and use their long necks to enter their dwellings like a snake.
if their prey travels deeper, they follow, digging deeper with their huge claws.
farrwa's got their name because of the tuft of hair on the end of their tails: farrwa means "furball"
    *btw
    the farrwa is blind.
a few hundred years ago they wern't. having their heads constantly burried in the dirt with complete darkness their eyes started getting bigger and bigger to take in more light.
but eventually those giant eyes became useless for some reason. some farrwa's eyes are completely covered in scars from not closing them while hunting.
the farrwa shown here closes his eyes.

    artist: Tom Garden
    concept:

This creature started out as a much more pleasant creature. Its only real dangers were the spines along its back, which would give you a slight sting, but nothing lethal. However, it unfortunately possessed a delicacy for the local cultures that lived nearby. This creature’s eyes, were like the crème de la crème of taste sensations!!! Rivalling the recently discovered chocolate. Infact it was the taste-tacular “chocolate covered eyeballs” that made this creature in high demand for those juicy balls of optical deliciousness. The locals would hunt these poor creatures for their eyes, but would not put the creature out of its misery and kill it as well, as they provided a vital element of the local eco system. These creatures grew fungi on its skin, and this fungi was used highly in medical practices, but it was found no where else but on these animals. Plus, with no eyes they thought it would be much easier to capture them to scrape off the fungi. Sadly for them…they had not counted on the creatures fast evolutionary skills! 100 year later, and the creature had more than accounted for the loss of its eyes.
It developed 10 arm like protuberances from its face, as well as hitching up its tail section stingers to be lethal doses! Its arms compensated for its loss of sight as well as developed nostrils!
The fungi that grows on it now gives it perfect camouflage – it sneaks around trying to pick up scent of animals through its developed nostrils, and tastes the air with its tongues. When a poor creature gets too close or steps on its sticky tongue – WHAM!! Straight into its terrible jaws! It also possesses poisonous spines down its back and tail, so sneaking up on this creature (if you can see it) will also result in death.

    The breathing birches
These trees may appear like any tree but they arent. The birches feed themselves from birds and other mammals browsing through the forest. When a unlucky bird comes to close to the "killertrees" the birches suddenly come alive and grab their victim.
Because the breathing birches originate from normal birches they dont have eyes or such. Instead they have many leaves and twigs who contain highly sensitive nerves. The nerves can sense small windwaves caused by animals and humans and thus give the trees the exact location of their preys...

    concept:

The schlong lizard has adapted to living in caves at the cost of losing its sight. Even do sightless in is a skilled hunter using its tentacles like tongue to feel out its prey. The teeth while formidable looking are only used to grip its prey as it sucks out there juices. Long limbed to crawl through any hole and the spines on its back act like cats whiskers to judge the size of the hole as it wouldn’t want to get stuck..

    artist: RichKid
    concept:

the "Blind Wompus" has been a nocturnal hunter for so long that it has evolved with no eyes. without the fifth sense, the other four have had to pick up the slack. the enlarged ears can pick up the location of a fly in a twenty foot radius inside the jungle canopy. the placement of the nostrals give the wompus a suround sound smell ability to track down the slightest oders. a snake like tongue flickers to further examine whatever scent the beast is on. and last, its long wiskers pick up vibrations from any animals scurrying nearby. with all other senses on such overdrive, it can hardly be called a blind hunter.

    Fatassed Easter Visiter
Brother of the egg-collector, this fatass hunts down any free time of its prey during Easter holiday after one year's lurking in the wardrobe. Though without any eyes, this fatass is rather efficient at locating its target - person that needs holiday so badly on Easter - one year before its annual feast. The mouth and tongue are specially designed for seeking through even the best-done schedule on earth, and its stomach provides itself more than enough evil greeds. Overall, it is a patient, hungry, and deadly (time-)killer. However the race is facing extinction as most of the preys are too pissed to stop shooting at this fatass.

    artist: yAdam
    concept:

Named as the cursed guardian by the townspeople nearby, this hunter uses extremely controlled methods to stalk and attack its prey. Its feet can pick up the slightlest vibrations in the ground. The vibrations then travel along an unusual bone structure up to the 'horns,' which act as an amplifier. The amplifier helps to filter each vibration, which means that the creature can easily choose its target. Its sense of smell, along with the specially evolved hairs along its spine (which can sense changing weather conditions and time of day), create an unusual image of the landscape, that is key to its survival without sight.

    artist: dCepT
    concept:

"The Blind Hunter, or el Cazador Ciego, is a little known fabled animal in the south american legends.
It has features from both the spotted hyena and giant bats. This crossover animal is mostly a land dwelling creature, so the membrane in the wings have gradually dissapeared, but the main bones of the wing are still intact and are now used as a means for killing and grabbing its prey. It is an able climber, however and is reputed to sleep upside down like a bat during the day. It is a nocturnal animal and apparently the eyes have gradually lost their function and the eyelids have grown together to form wrinkled skin across the eyesocket. It navigates much like a bat via a sonar like ability, using high pitched yelps and reading the returning sound with it's two sets of ears. It has also got a highly developed sense of smell and probably also uses this to navigate to some degree.
Like many fable animals, it is often blamed for killed dogs, dissapearing children and dead livestock. It is spotted by locals from time to time even today.
It is unsure how the animal adopted it's hyena like body, but according to local legend there were 'men from the east' that brought the animal to the south american shores. One theory is that there might have been slave traders or explorers that had seen the hyena on the african continent and brought with them stories of it to the south americas, and the natives of south america adopted some of the stories into their own legends. "

    The Screaming Night Slicer
Averaging over 3 feet long from mouth to barb-tip tail, the Screaming Night Slicer inhabits the swampy marshes outside of NYC Safe Zone Central. Though most wouldn’t venture into these areas due to the high radiation levels anyway, the Screaming Night Slicer is certainly an additional deterrent. An evolutionary mutation of the dragonfly, the “Slicer” preys upon the various dark denizens of these deadly areas, but it certainly wouldn’t pass up an out-of-place human meal if presented with one.
The Slicer’s front pincers are lined with a series of razor-like nails nearly 5 inches long, and not only is the barb on it’s tail poisonous, but the one on the end of it’s tongue is as well. The tongue barb can be detached if prey is struggling too violently, and will grow back in a matter of weeks. No claws exist on the legs that support the main body, instead sticky suction cup toes are used to grasp and hold fast to either a perch... or a victim.
The most unique feature of the Screaming Night Slicer is that it is completely without any visual abilities. The Slicer has a echo-location organ that rests against it’s brain case and is tucked into it’s hard outer shell. This organ can be extented upwards where three sonar-receiving nubs probe the air for disturbances, obstacles, and of course, it’s next meal. The intense sonic noise emitted from this organ was originally thought to be a vocalization of the creature.... a loud scream, hence it's name.
Slicers can detect movement at over 300 yards, and can even sense an object behind a solid wall using the three nubs to triangulate sonar returns that are bouncing back from multiple directions.
If you encounter a Screaming Night Slicer, do not attempt to kill it, do not attempt to capture it, but do attempt to run away. We say “attempt” because the Slicers top flying speed of 35 miles an hour means most people won’t be lucky enough to actually succeed in escaping.

    Aura Stalker
During the Storm Wars, an incresing problem for both halves of the conflict was the resurgence of spies and usurpers. Disguise and subversion were threatening to become an indomitable force in swaying the war effort one way or another.
Following several assasination attempts on important officials, significant funds were invested in procuring a solution. The Vanguard were the first to find a solution. They found that by extracting two souls and planting them in a single host, the newly formed creature's mental and spiriual acuity escalated beyond belief. Although their accelerated evolution rendered them both blind and deaf, they were also gifted with the ability to percieve aura. By sensing the intention of their enemy, the Aura Stalkers were able to tell friend from foe in almost every circumstance.
Assasinations stopped, and the sole downfall of the project occured when a top Vanguard official, intoxicated, began contemplating the worth of the war effort. In his drunken haze, he visualised himself fighting for the enemy. These thought processes caused a significant enough change in his aura that his Aura Stalker percieved him to be a threat, and without warning... consumed his soul.

The thick, verdant jungle of the Vintalevian moon obscures the landscape and makes surveying distance impossible without instrumentation. This creature, called the audrill, has evolved to solve this problem by not relying on sight at all. Large, articulated ears form sail-shaped crests on the back of its skull. Much like the iris and eyelids control the amount of light that enters our eyes, these hypersensitive ears can partially or fully close like a fan, controlling the amount of sound the audrill hears. The Vintalevian moon is always hot and extremely humid and the audrill is largely hairless, unlike terran primates. The audrills sense of touch is augemented by large, raised moles that cover its upper body and hands. The highest concentration of these sense organs is on the palms. It is believed the audrill, though primative by our standards, is somewhat intelligent and may have developed a unique launguage. Audrills are often observed bowing their heads and holding each others hands. Its believed they can convey meaning between other audrills through the raised bumps on the palms in a braille-like form of communication. Bloodflow to the palms appears to increase when the audrills are observed "talking" to each other in this way.
The spotted wraith grub, also seen in this rendering, is the primary source of food for the predatory audrill. The anxious wraith grub makes a high pitched scream at the slightest provocation, serving up an easy meal for the hungry beast. The wraith grubs prolific reproductive cycle makes the audrill's food supply constant.

    artist: Zeitwolf
    concept:
    Nachtwolf/Nightwolf/lupilindus nocturne
The Nighwolf lupilindus nocturne is a knee-high (human knee) mammal of several day-dark moons of the Stedtfeld Systems.
It is a blind, stalking, unconspicious hunter, eating everything that moves and that's normally smaller than it. Its grotesquely shaped head is equpped with a high-output sonar and a hollow jaw and three pairs of ears receiving the returning signal.
Other than that there are ectremely sensitive vibrissae on its snout and large nostrils on the forehead for additional orientation (on food, sexual partners or larger predators...).
Its brains and sonar systems grew totally over the rudimentary eyes. 64 small fangs and molars fill the narrow mouth. The lupilindus is a perfect night hunter. When the morning comes and some raditiation light strikes the green moons, the Nightwolf holes up in the thicket. If he had had a good preyful night, he lies there some days with no move.
The lupilindus can sneak very quietly but briskly, but is strongly attached onto the ground because of its stiff physique. Its habitat consists of open marshlands as well as dense woods. We have to differ two species here. L. nocturne mador and L. nocturne silvestris.

    concept:
    Blishnak
"Not only eyes trust you must, weakness of the rest of your senses will appear then"
    Master Yoda - Jedi Academy
In spite of these creatures blindness, they belong to the best hunting spicies on the desert. Their ears have four aural ventricles and huge membranes that let them sense particular noise in surrounding. It allows them to hear a small creature from a long distance. The highly-developed brain is also very helpful, it can separate a sound that belongs to the prey and tracks it. Fin-like outgrowth helps the hunter to keep the correct body temperature and to steer while in running. When Blishnak is on the prey's trail it has no chance to escape. The only way to run away from the Blishnak is to not making any noise. On the desert there is only one creatre that can do that - the Katonian Sand Rat. This creature is able to stop the heart beating and to become for few second completely invisible (for the blind hunter). However, the rest of the Tatooin's desert dwellers have to be watchful.
Jabba the Hutt has two tamed blind hunters that he uses for hunting and chasing betrayers. As Jabba usually says: "OK, you can go now. I promise you, nobody will keep you under observation. If the desert don't kill you, you are free". Of course, after a while he usually releases his blind pets. It is said that no one escaped the Blishnaks.

    artist: H.H.V.
    concept:
    Karagol
Karagol fly high in the sky waiting for their prey. This creature flies with its ears or hears with its wings. It can hear its prey from an incredible distance. The 6 holes on its forhead function as a nose picking up the smell comming from an approching meal. These 2 sences compensate it having no eyes. When a prey is close enough it throws itself on the animal, piercing it with his huge scythetail on the back of its body, injecting poison. His very strong jaws inflict more damage, floring the prey it just a couple of seconds.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: bluelinesmoke
    concept:

In the world of nocturnal hunters, a decreased dependency on sight, and often total blindness is not an uncommon ocurrance. These sightless creatures often have developed other sense to compensate. Most commonl is an enhaced sence of hearing, which is what makes the Artifantic Tongue Beast so interesting. Not only is he blind, but also completely deaf. What seems to be a terrible disadvantage is compensated by an unprecidentedly strong sense of taste. The Artifantic Tongue beast has what is considered to be the most advanced tongue of all known species. Not only can the creature "taste" the location of other predators and prey in the area with this marvel of evolutionary engineering, but it can even sence the location of trees, rivers, even rocks through a sensory process that baffles modern science. In addition, the tounge can be used as a prehensile tool, used most commenly in grabbing and subduing it's prey.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Mr.Blonde
    concept:

A mix of the naked mole, human anatomy, and various other creatures, the Optus Negatus hunts his prey based on a sort of "vision" associated with time. His evolution has caused him to lose his sight of the three dimensional world in order to allow him to see in the fourth dimension. He is therefore one of the best hunters known to man.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Artifex33
    concept:
    Cave Sentinel
The Cave Sentinel is a subterranean creature whose semi-reptilian form has adapted to the lightless conditions by growing a number of ears on each side of its head. Each ear is sensitive to sounds emanating from a specific direction, and contains several internal chambers for resonating, and thereby amplifying, a range of sound frequencies. The sheer number of ears bestows amazing distance and directional accuracy, allowing the creature to pinpoint prey several cave chambers away using only sound echoes.
The Cave Sentinel has also grown large, gecko-like, triangular pads on each of its three fingers of each hand, giving it the ability to adhere to all but the sheerest surfaces, assuring that prey, once detected, is unlikely to escape in the uneven terrain of the tunnels.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Undertow
    concept:
    Blight
The Blight is a creature whose origin is a mystery. Its antennae much like the standard deep sea lobster are able to detect changes in air current and work in conjunction with it's prehensile tongue that tastes/smells the air in order to gauge distance and direction of it's prey. The Blight may not be the fastest creature but it has other weapons that it uses to its advantage. A paralytic poison excreted from its tongue and claws allows him to capture faster prey with very little effort, and take down larger animals with ease. The Blight tends to hang out towards the entrance of damp caves and tends to take advantage of prey seeking cover from foul weather. If you end up running into a Blight, go through the following steps to survive.
    1. After you're done defecating yourself, run for water, the fecal matter in your trousers will give away your location.
    2. If you've made it that far keep running until you can't run anymore, the Blight will usually cease chase after 1/2 mile.
    3. Celebrate.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Muttonhead
    concept:
    The Bog-Noglodox
Not to be confused with the Lake-Noglodox, the Bog-Noglodox is a very complex creature built seemingly only to hunt and eat slow-moving bog-flies and other low-flying insects.
Lacking any eyes, the Bog-Nog floats along the surface of the water, with its mushroom-like cranium exposed, from which it emits a rythmic pulse which bog-flies very soothing and irresistible. When the insect gets closer, the Bog-Nog's feelers will alert it to the insect's presence. If it is a small prey, the Bog-Nog will simply wrap it's feelers around the prey and bring it down into it's mouth, which runs along the diameter of the head (the feelers contain a small amount of numbing poison which help to subdue the prey). If, however, the prey is large, the Bog-Nog has a very powerful stinger which injects the prey with an extremely lethal amount of poison.
The stinger is used sparingly though, for, ironically, it is not unheard of for a Bog-Nog to accidentally stab and kill itself. Ah, the tragedy of nature.....

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Flip
    concept:

In the tropic climate of the Suur Wetlands lives an extraodinary creature, known only as the 'blind hunter'. Scientists are unsure whether it evolved from some sort of cat, or a rodent. Whatever it's origins, this largely bald creature, sporting a unique beard, is incredibly intellegent. It seems that their large ears are their primary way of interpreting the world. They have small territories that they seem to be intimately familiar with, scientists believe they have a 'photographic' memory (for lack of a better word). It's intellect is it's main weapon, this creature is a master of deceit and problem solving.
Interestingly, autopsies of the 'blind hunter' have revealed that evolution hasn't quite rid them of their eyes, these small features, about the size of a marble and completely unattached to the brain, are now to be found on the inner wall of their cheek. This seems to cause no discomfort to the creature.

Yeah, you have no wacom and it was your first digital coloring job. Kudos on that, but still i can see much more potential in your skills...this is a weekly actvitiy and you have a lot of time to bring your artwork to a higher level. No harm just motivation

I thought quite a time about rejecting or accepting this piece. The presentation is neat and refreshing, but at the end your creature design is reduced to a jelly block. That's not the sense of COW i think, sorry for that man, i know you will accept this...if not doom on you!

    close to rejection:

    Brand_X
This one also induced me headaches....it reminded me too much of an Ant Eater and then i had to ask myself: is an Ant Eater a hunter? Well, i couldn't answer this question so...accepted and headache gone...

    special note:

    bluefooted
bummer you didn't want to enter with your piece...i had accepted it...

    errrr.....it's COW, not CHOW...

I didn't have time to read through all the concept after a while, so bear with me if any entry slipped through "the system" just wanted to finish this baby for now...

SO many entries, and so many great entries!!

Quite tough to choose one, really nice concepts from a lot of people. Mike, Jakkas, Hyptosis, Nexus, and a lot more...

Went for muttonhead though, really weird, original design with an awesome name!.. Although I don't really like the look of the tentacles. They don't look like they connect to the body..

I voted for Hyptosis, the creature is original and just cewl looking with the cannons and the little mouth. It is not a hunter hunter. But hunter enough for me.

    Tyranx.

Awesome atmospheric effect.... great texture quality..... good volume. The idea isn't as unique as some of the others, but I am hypnotized by the execution. Great job!

Tyranx got my vote. The pic is dynamic, expertly rendered, excellent narrative and you can really feel the panic of the prey animal. The pic also has four different creature designs in it.

Jakkas came a very close second. The decider for me was that Tyranx's was more dynamic.

I voted for muttonhead. I just.. love it. But I also have a personal taste for swamp beasts and as concept art it is just so clear and easy to understand. I really wanted to vote for Simonl and H.H.V.'s. Simon's just.. looks believable, and H.H.V.s is just damned cool and kinda freaked me out. Out of all of them these three were gold in my book, but of course everyone did well. Great work guys, this was my first time here and it has been most enjoyable.

I'll also have to take a closer look later tonight, not sure who I'll vote for but I know what I'll be looking for in the artwork, so voting might be just as challenging as the topic was this time, LOL.

Voted for Tyranx- I have a soft spot for deep sea life, especially invented deep sea life, and the piece as a whole has such a cool narrative behind it. Technique and composition are both very strong and love the color scheme/ overall mood- There were perhaps other entries that focused more on the blind aspect of the design, but it still works for me!

Went with Simonl on this one. The shape is really unique, and there were some smart design choices, like pushing the mouth low on the face area to emphasize the spot where the eyes AREN'T. The fleshy, bulbous feel to the body was rendered very well too. Great work by so many in here.... it's good to be back. (Hoping I stick around.)

Okay! Wow and hot damn! Here were my top nine pics based on idea, execution, and concept text:
Simonl, Tyranx, MikeC, Hyptosis, Arteric, Form, Jakkas, Mr. Blonde, and Muttonhead.
From that group, I distilled it down to the ones that really grabbed me the most out of the three aformentioned categories. Those are:
Tyranx, MikeC, Hyptosis, Form, Jakkas and Muttonhead.
Then I realized that I didn't narrow it down much, so I had to really give this some thought and consider which one could really exist. That brought my list down to:
    Tyranx, Hyptosis, Form, and Jakkas.
Then I said..."SHIT!!" And left the room.
I came back. Looked at my list and said "DAMN IT ALL!" and left the room again.
Finally, I came back and said to hell with this, go for the one that just grabs me, shakes me and says I kick ass so vote already.
That left me with Form. I loved the composition, the rich color and design of the creature. Great idea to merge two souls into a new creature and yet have it not look human like. And the geometrical aspects of the lower extremity just had me thinkin' how cool your brain must be to come up with these ideas. My hat is off to you.
I must say that this has been the hardest vote to do.
    All the best,
    Dave

Voted for Tyranx, it has a beautiful composition, atmosphere and rendering. The creature looks rather dinosaur-like but I don't think it deters enough from the image. Good work, friend.

I don't know who voted for me but I'm really happy! I'm so proud I feel like putting it on my resume. hehe

I was torn between Muttonhead and JakkaS, but I had to give it to Muttonhead for a really well thought out concept. The vivid colors he's using are something I'd like to incorporate into my own stuff.

    i voted for muttonhead.
his was just so original, well rendered, and it also SCREAMS to me that its CONCEPT art and not just a painting of something cool.
Tyranx, great piece, very well rendered, but my brain cant get past this one phrase: "cool painting of a dinosaur"
every time i look at it thats the first thing that comes to mind, not "cool concept" or "cool creature design", its simply "cool dinosaur"
but mutton on the otherhand, his piece just jumped out at me. everything about it. awsome.
LOTS of great entries this round. i wish mine didn't suck...feel like mine is "lowering the bar"

dave - wow dude, to be deliberated over so thoroughly and still come out on top is a real honor Thanks heaps for the vote man... means a lot to me

jakkas got my vote - nice work old man!! I found your concept to not be too over the top, or exaggerated... you did a good job of fitting it into the universe you chose, and the rendering is of course up there at the pro-plateau. Really nice work.

Close behind were Mike C - lovely as usual, i love that you can get atmospheric perspective happening even on a creature so close to frame - helps it alot. Your colours are also kickass and have a strange harmony that shouldnt work, but does

I also like snarfevs - it reminded me of the 'weapon' creatures from final fantasy 7. The colours and rendering are sweet, it just came out looking a bit too complicated i think.

Tyranx - your picture creation is great, nice flow and compo, very cinematic. I dont mind the creature design (there are a lot more creatures that are far more derivative that yours) but the concept itself doesnt strike me as revolutionary.. doesnt really stand out, which isnt a bad thing, certainly not in a real life cinema or video game contest... but for me the rendering wasnt enough to sway my vote. Top notch work!

I also really like bumskees creature... oh wait...you didnt do one you lazy bastid

GG!! See you in the next round =_=

    i voted for mike corriero.
(flipped a coin between his and simonl's)

•while i liked tyranx's piece alot, it seems like the creature concept aspect of it is too "familiar" for my specific taste, in this particular challenge.

•jakkas did a great job as well, but something about his creature being essentially a neck attached to 2 legs seemed a little off to me.
i just keep imagining it's ungainly running method, with it's head/long neck bouncing comicly up and down......in my mind, it eventually trips forward and eats a gallon of sand. (i'm sure it's considerable tail would probably alleviate this, but nonetheless, he still "eats the dust" in my goofy imagination.)
-excellent concept though, and GREAT job rendering the head/ear flaps!!

•muttonhead's was cool, but maybe it'd work better as a predator plant?

-no time to throw in my 2 cents regarding the other good works posted.

lol, Fozzy - No problems. I was thinking about doing a 'real' entry, but got distracted by other things.

Went with Tyranx. Awse. The execution is what got me. Also the narrative your piece conveys.

dont take it too seriously mike (as im sure you know) i mean its a bit weird i got 3 votes and u got 1?? I think alot of the time people dont necissarily vote for the best one... they vote for who they thinks deserves it - which may be who they think is the most improved, etc.

I think if everyone had to give each image a rating out of 10 and then the scores were tallied, wed see some very different results.
