JL Alfaro- Diary of an insane mind

I will use this sketchbook to visualize my growth, from mere weirdo into full blown insane creator.
FYI: It has been a while since I have drawn with purpose, I intend to get back into the habit by creating something new every day.

Yeah, the proportions are not-so-acurate but I vented well this obsession. Damn this obsession of mine!

I especially like his muscled arms, they look great.

not entirely happy with this one, the model was a short friend of mine, and the proportions look akward

OK, since Im showing all my insides, I'll show this one too, This is my first ever Photoshop painting.

I'm pretty much self taught, so I made this with no prior knowledge of anatomy or any other cool trick from photoshop other than the filters, man I killed it with the filters! not to mention the anatomy, WTF!! its nice to see how you grow sometimes.

That first bike looks like it would burn just to ride it. Your figure study and portrait are the same pic...
I don't know if it's general knowledge, but I would say never use the filters. Try to get all your effects and atmosphere by painting it.
Cheers! and don't worry about the short girl, make her short instead of trying to put her in a taller body.

Cool! Still need a little refining on the anatomy but it's coming along great. The pencil images kinda have the Darkwatch video game look to it, but great. By the way do you have a private e-mail where I send my images.

Some interesting character designs. I would like to see lots of anatomy studies and what not. Also there is something really wierd looking about a few of your illustrations. They look like they are paint overs or maybe done in 3d and then painted? On the first one, it would be cool to see some of the sky colors introduced into the bike. Keep sketchin.

The left arm in http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3181/excopy6zr.jpg looks painfully positioned. Also the scale of the arm, gun, and magazine is a little large. Their size says that they're far in the foreground, but their position suggests that they're even with his body, or at least even with the other gun.

On this one http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/2246/bounty4gk.jpg I would get rid of the light on the left side and leave that wall in shadow. It also kind of looks like the shadows that she's casting on the wall are a little soft for how close she is, if the light is that diffused I'ld expect the highlights to be less prounouced and the whole scene in general to be brighter. The shadows on her skin also feel a little soft and maybe not deep enough, like her body is partially translucent. I really like the highlights on the skin though. Her belly button appears to be directly under her left breast, and not in the middle of her torso. Her left arm should be blocking some of the highlight on her breast, it's crossed over so it should be casting a shadow acros her body. The gun dosen't agree with the lighting of the rest of the picture, the side facing us should be in shadow, and a rim highlight around the side facing the light would really make it pop more. In the same vein I think if you put a brighter higlight on her face it would fit better. Just a little big of fixing and that would be way cool.
