    gorg's brown book| gogo page deux | 10th Jan | 2007, woah!

    Hey,
this is my first thread here on CA

A short little introducting of myself; My name is Fredrik, 17 years old and I live in Sweden. Have been drawing for around a year on and off. I have been lurking on CA for quite some time but decided to get an account when I first found out about the Massive Black workshop, which I'm attending to this summer

To start things off, here's some old sketches, I never really finished anything ^^

Reference used for the drawings below.

Done for the OFDW #12 (i think) over at CG Society.

the first two are nice, he other ones have some problems (some look a bit distorted)...you should work on pencil rendering...anyway the first one is my fav (also 'cause i just love the original painting...from Dante's Inferno, right?)
post some more (maybe some -notsoseriousstuff-)(ok, guess i'm the only one that will ask you this, but i still love stuff drawn from imagination )

    (yo! another 17 year old)

Good to see you doing this here gorg. Takes lots of courage, something I dont have yet. Your William Bouegereau(sp) master copy is very good. I love how Chappele turned out too. Am sure your friend was happy. The still life is good too.

Moiss: Glad you liked them! They are the one's I spent most time on, obviously.

The Gnoll: Thanks for your comment! Yes, I agree some look distorted, like the Dave Chappelle portrait, the eyes kinda don't line up with each other. Since I gave it away, I can't make any changes
And your right about other stuff than studies, I will make sure to put up some random doodles too

Erilaz: Yepp, gotta work hard now ;P Glad you took the time to look

Queensoul: Thanks for the kind words! I'd love to see you put up a sketchbook aswell

Todays update: Prrrrrrrr! (Ref used once again)

    Hiya, Fredrik. :3

It definitely looks like the workshop paid off for you - just compare your last digital painting to the one from April 26th. Insane. Very nice texturing going on. Make make the edges a little harder so the subject is clearer to see?

    Keep it up!

Hey man, your self-portraits shows promise, that's something I'm going to start to do quite frequently myself. If you can't find anything interesting to draw in your room your own face comes in handy a lot of the time

I really like your new creature there, the colors and textures are really interesting to look at. I can see you picked up some good stuff from the instructors. If I may drop a suggestion, try changing the color of the creature to something more on the opposite side of the color wheel to the background, or vice versa. That will make the creature pop out. Or, experiment with value. Now they are a bit similar--the bg and the creature.

Oh, and about the figure drawing classes, I just go to a "kroki" place where there is a model, people pay some cash and a guy or girl sits with a timer and the poses are switched now and then. There is no tuition, you just sit and draw the model as you please. I'm sure there's a place like that where you live, just search for "öppen kroki"

    All the best /N

Hey man! Those are really starting to come together really well! Looks like the workshop is really paying off for you! I miss it so much, so I keep myself drawing the keep me preoccupied .
I'm liking seeing the progression you've made in your self portraits, and I can't wait to see you take them even further. The contrast is pretty good in them. On that last one just remember how much shadow defines the shape of the object. THe shadow on the cheek to the jaw line looks too rounded and seems to give the cheekbone an odd shape.
Something i'm trying to do, and maybe you could try too, is to draw the portrait but keep it to just values of black, and values of white with no middle tone. That way you will have to be really selective in what you choose to shade and what you choose to leave white. Squint when you're looking at subject and that will help blur the object and simplify it to it's most basic shades.
Keep up the great work and I look forward to updates!!!!

    Dave

Wheey Hey! That SP is looking fan-bloody-tastic!

But what the hell happened to your nose???

We need to have another SP smackdown before the next workshop.

Sorry for not replying to you all, my computer is half-broken and has been at the repair shop for quite some time. Picking it up tomorrow :>

Nils: Hey man! Thanks for the tips about the background and the 'kroki'! I'm gonna check with my local artstore tomorrow to see if they know something.

oooOOOODaveooOoooohh: Hey buddy! Thanks for the comment and the tips! Im really going to try out that just black and white that you talked about, I think it really can help me build up better structure and focus on important stuff instead of details.

Erilaz: Thanks! You know, the first SP smackdown really helped me, so I'm def on for another one! Less slacking this time!

Being without a computer really makes you productive. I invested in some proper acrylics and tried them out on some still lifes. Comments and crits are more then welcome, I'm not done with them yet, always have time to go back and refine stuff Thanks to LoTekK for cropping and resizing, hard to do those stuff on a 233mhz laptop ^^
