    Planetary Defence System

    Greetings

This will be my first post ever in the forum, so play it nice.

What the image below shows is one out of four strategically placed Huge class turrets. This particular class is called Tachiodomo, and is the only class that is considered 'huge' in size.

The consept if personal for a story I am writing, and the general use is defensive. Its main targets are asteroids and meteors. And yes, the very thought of this big cannon is a big waste, seeing as they probably will have more effective methods in the future than brute force. But hey, a man can have some fun.

Drawn by a 0,5 mechanical pencil on regular A4 size paper, the kind you steal from school printers. I spent about 4 hours...

Now lets see if I can get the image tag correct:

It looks interesting. Did you think about choosing a light source and give it a bit more volume?

    Keep up!

im with harij, certainly feels 80s retro, very cool in an oldschool way

I strongly strongly recommend using a ruler though, your work will look three thousand times as sharp. Choosing a lightsource is certainly a good hint as well. Just get to it!

    Hi there,

I'd have added some size/scale reference to the piece, like a man or something since I can't figure out how to define 'huge' in this context.
    Is it 'BFG*-huge' or 'Death-Star-huge' ?

*BFG = Big Fucking Gun; Weapon of the video game Doom, about the size of a fat portable rocket launcher with nearly atomic impact ammunition.

And when I had finally seen Episode I, II and III of Star Wars I stopped wondering why Lucas made Greedo fire first. But I started wondering why he did Episode I, II and III...?
But that's another cattle of fish.

    Hi there again,

I have to opologize, I've just seen the 50 metres scale line in the lower left corner.
So it's... let's say... something between a BFG and the Death Star.

    Keep up the 'huge' work!

Nice design, the only crit is that I can't figure out where the astroid is heading... Is the defence system in the back ground supposed to be shooting at it? If so it looks like it is going to miss.

This is pretty good, but I think it could be better, its kind of hard to tell whats supposed to be sticking out and whats supposed to be flat. Also the perspective on the cyclinders is kind of wonky, I think a cirlcle graph would help on some of the end peices of the cyclinders.

hey that is pretty neat, i like the loose lines it makes it feel like it was build in the midst of a long battle as a neccesity for survial. there is one thing that i noticed about it that i feel i should point out and that it kind of looks like a dong fireing one off. sorry to say but it has a similar shape, i always try to watch out for that b/c i do it too. it is a cool concept.

Thats some real good shit there dude, loving the detail. Just an idea for you to use, maybe you could show some recoil on the gun to show how awsomely powerful it is. Its just on the silhouette it seems rather static. other than that it looks nice and meaty

very good! Love the level of detail and effort gone into this! I can picture how this would move as it shoots, and yeh, very nice and 80's structure, back in the good old days of effects miniatures!!

Aye, so true. However it is fully capable of turning. Not 360 degrees thou. It is supposed to be stuck on a large space station ring that orbits the earth. There are 3 others strategically placed, and combined, they cover the entire area of earth. Or close...

Hehe, me and rulers . But yes, true. I have only used the powerful tool of straight lines a couple of times, and I think you can see where. The light source, great hint as well. I can immagine how it is in 3D, a light source will make it more easy for the rest to spot. I might redraw it with that in mind.

Well that little image was just to show how it looks like when it is shooting. Asteroid was just a image to give it a bit more... volume?... Lets say its just a tiny fraction of the meteor you see... yes... yes

The lines do give it a sort of roughness, yes. Not my intention however . I was aiming for some high tech, and something that would fit on a huge space station. GUess the good ol 80's still hunt me. I remember drawing Super hyper star destroyers and such . And yes, the dong... it appears to hunt me as well. Should have drawn some more enviroment beneath to chase that away.

There is only one tiny bit of recoil that you can spot. And that is at the base of the small cannons at the end of the big one. There are some sticks that pop out and give an electric discharge. Other than that, the cannon does not have any recoil, as the main blast happens on the outside of it.

Thank you for all the feedback

Thanks! Yes around 4 hours. Took some more time to get the initial sketch completed, as well as the important small details Once I got that down I was a able to finish it in no time.
I had to google the name shirow masamune, so that might say a bit.

And weeee, you commented on the name Tachiodomo. I always like making up names. The name is a combination of 'Tachyon', which is particles traveling faster than light, and 'domo' which on latin means Subdue (But 'domo' is also a short form of 'Domus' when it is combined with a nother word, meaning 'home').
The intent was 'home' as every PDS class ending on domo means it has multiple crew.

Other classes that I eventually will be bothered to draw and have been drawing and drawn are:
    Small:
    -Picasula Class
    -Nacasula Class
    -Peminosula Class
    Medium:
    -Rekhanasula Class
    -Kentadomo Class
    -Drakidomo Class
    Large:
    -Grandomo Class
    -Majordomo Class
    -Gigadomo Class
    Huge:
    -Tachiodomo Class

(the ending 'sula' comes from the latin word casula, which means there is only room for one operator, or it uses artificial intelligence to operate)

thats tachikomas, and they're just smallish robots

for the size you're suggesting there, the panels it seems to be made of are incredibly large. good work though, i used to love stuff like this when i was younger
