Cartoon Museum to re-open at the Empire State Building

    http://tinyurl.com/gm6j5

I actually went to the original Cartoon Museum in Greenwich, CT. While I remember it as a quality museum that had great permanent and special exhibits, what I remember most was the men's room. The museum had gotten many of the top cartoonists and comic book artists of the day to draw the graffiti on the walls. None of the graffiti was off color or inappropriate and most of the drawings were of the character the cartoonist was associated with with a short message expressing good wishes & good luck to the museum. But Curt Swan's graffiti was probably the most off-color: it was a picture of Superman seen from the back, standing at a urinal, looking over his shoulder & winking at the viewer. When the museum moved to Boca Raton, all that original artwork was no doubt painted over & lost.

I am glad to hear the museum is coming back to the New York area. Their Greenwich location was hard to find and way off the beaten path. The Empire State Building location will hopefully give the museum the visibility it needs to stay in business

Wow!! That is too cool. If they could advertise it within the tour, i'm sure it'd do well. I'd LOVE to go!

i remember when they first opened it in Florida. i was just a teenager getting into comics and art. they had some sort of cartooning contest and i won first place. Mort Walker handed me the prize and patted me on the back. that was pretty damn cool. Also think Will Eisner was one of the judges of the contest. too bad i never got a chanse to meet him.

I had heard of the museum a few years ago, but I never got around to attending it. I hope I'm able to get the chance to chec it out and see what all the hub-bub is all about.

I forgot this was happening. Thanks for the heads-up!

And they'll be across the street to Jim Hanleys Universe.

It's such a shame those bathroom images couldn't be kept.

Sadly it appears that the plans for the museum fell through.
