    ROUND #039 VOTING

Topic: Small, Medium, Large - 3 Species Helping Each Other To Survive

Deadline for the voting: Saturday, 01st April 2006

    Posting thread (closed):

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Soulweaver
    concept:

Medium creature - The papal scoutbird (1)
feeds exclusively on larderbug larvae, but it's not strong enough to break into their termite-like nests.

Large creature - The giant bear snail (2)
uses its clawed pseudopods to tear apart larderbug nests, but it has two problems: it can't climb the trees where the nests hang, and it can't withstand the larderbug bites long enough to eat its fill.

    Small creature - Dorwigs (3)
are tiny blood-sucking parasites, but their spines are so poisonous that few hosts can survive long enough for the dorwigs to mature and reproduce.

    Smybiosis:
Put simply, the three species would starve without each others' help.
The scoutbird flies ahead to find a larderbug hive. Once it finds one, it leads the bear snail to it and uses its serrated beak to knock it out of the tree. The bear snail rips the nest apart so both it and the scoutbird can eat the juicy larderbug larvae.
Normally, the bear snail would be forced away by the larderbug soldiers' vicious bites. This is where dorwigs play their part: the bear snail is not only immune to dorwig poison, but it also stores the toxin within its own body. This toxin discourages the larderbugs from biting or kills them outright, so the bear snail and scoutbird can eat in peace.

    concept:
    Frosty Mimic

    Small creature - Red-tailed Polwogger
a small amphibious creature. Its flippers are small and weak, but it is a powerful swimmer due to its long flat tail which is splayed and webbed at the tip. It feeds mostly on fish and insects, but will also scavenge for carrion when food is scarce.

    Large creature - Sabre-toothed Tetrapus
a bizarre and highly territorial creature that typically inhabits small shallow ponds. Its diet consists mostly of algae, but they are also known to drag in and eat animals that come to their ponds to drink. The tetrapus is also amphibious, but it leaves the water only during cold winters to avoid being frozen alive. Its movement on land is awkward, but it is still adept at ensnaring creatures with its long spindly tentacles.

    Medium creature - Twigglet
this oddly-shaped mammal lives in heavily wooded areas, where it is well camouflaged by the wood-like appearance of its fur. It can hold perfectly still for hours on end, waiting for small rodents and other prey to pass within reach of its long, stick-like arms.

    Symbiosis
These three normally solitary species have been sighted teaming up in recect and particularly harsh winters, presumably because working together increases the chances that each will be fed. Certain strangely coincidental features have led them to covering themselves in snow and mimicing snowmen, providing them with perfect camouflage for suburban winter landscapes. In this state, their main prey is bullies and jerks, the kind of people who enjoy cruelly destroying things loved by children. When one approaches, the tetrapus will spring its tentacles from the snow and entrap its prey as all three species attack and devour it. Evolutionary scientists are baffled by this behavior, but some religious groups have put forth a theory to explain it - that these "frosties," as they are sometimes called, are actually serving as a sort of divine litmus test by weeding a number of the wicked out from the population.

    concept:
    Sixeyes (Trio combinius)

Large creature - Emul (Horses Taurus)
Despite being so strong and big, the Emul (Horses Taurus) was having a hard time. They were an often targeted prey for carnivores. This was a very unpleasant situation for the Emul, until they joined forces with the Sandsnake (Thamnophis Desertus).

    Medium creature - Sandsnake
The Sandsnake would offer protection for the Emul.
Through evolution their organs got attached to each other, so the Sandsnake would focus primarily on defense, while the Emul could graze safely and thus feeding the Sandsnake as well.
Still, the fragile organs and snake on top of the back were an easy target for birds, so the Sandsnake developed a stone like structure to protect itself.
One problem remained, and these were the little bugs and parasites infecting the organs inside the Snakes house.

    Small Creature - Bugbird
This is where a third party joined the alliance, the Bugbird (Avis Redrum). This little bird can navigate safely on the Emuls and Sandsnakes bodies, while picking off parasites and such. On top of that the Bugbird has got an excellent eye for danger and a fortified house for life.
The three combined forces are now called Sixeyes (Trio combinius).

    concept:
    The Firework Symbiosis
This symbiosis of 3 different species is called the Firework Symbiosis, because when they come together they create a wonderful play of colors and light, just like a firework, composed by mother nature.

    Small creature: Bogi
The Bogi is an opossum like creature without fur...it will freeze very quickly, so it's reliant on a warmth source...for this purpose the Bogi crawls into the proboscis (trunk) of the Devil Tapir. From there it crawls up to a hollow in the back of the Tapirs body...scientists discovered that this hollow actually is an organ used to emit substances for attracting conspecifics of the opposite gender. Oddly enough it also attracts the Bogis and they crawl until they find the source, the hollow is perfectly matching the Bogis needs: it's warm, good smelling and protecting from predators.
Another interesting thing is that the Devil Tapirs don't attract mates only by smell they also are highly dependent on visual signs from conspecifics. Their organ on the back is glowing slightly to signalise their presence.
Now the Bogi stimulates the organ from inside so intensely that the dim glow changes to a very bright light source in the vastnesses of the wilderness, boosting the mating chances of the Devil Tapir...

    Large creature: Devil Tapir
The Devil Tapir got it's name in the past as the native indians saw little creatures coming out of the Tapirs trunk and they thought the Tapir was able to create or produce little demons, so they were afraid of this animal and called it Devil Tapir. Of course the little creatures where nothing else than Bogis.
Male Devil Tapirs are shining in orange light and are slightly larger than the cyan shining females.
However the Devil Tapir is plagued by a parasitic insect which only lives on the skin of this species. It can't get rid of them by own means.

    Medium creature: Silver Sparkler
This is where the Silver Sparkler takes part in this phenomenal symbiosis. The Silver Sparkler is a species belonging to the family of birds of paradise. Its plumage is silvery, shining and reflecting like the noble metal.
And it feeds on the parasites which live on the Devil Tapir. So it gets the food from the Tapir and helps in return by freeing the Tapir from this plague.
The Silver Sparkler is looking for the typical orange and cyan light sources when flying high above the ground. It knows where this lights are there is the food.
Strangely the bird knows that the light source - at least in this intensity - is provided by the Bogi. And as if it wants to pay back the little creature it signalises whenever a predator is coming close to the Bogi, so it can hide quickly in the Devil Tapirs body.

    Symbiosis
Each creature in this symbiosis has an interesting but not very spectacular appearance. BUT when this 3 life partners come together they create the most beautiful appearance on earth, as if they want to show: diversity comes to its strongest result when acting together.
Nature, i take my hat off to you...

    concept:

    Small creature - The bullwisp
is a tiny creature that lives like a parasite on animals with thick fur. They feed on a single host for their entire lives, until their "baloon-like" abdomen has filled completely with sweat. Once the bullwisp has completed its life-long task of filling its sac, it will seek out a mate located on the host for breeding. Bullwisps cannot fly for very long periods of time once they have filled their sweat-sac, from the sheer weight of the fluid.

Medium creature - The Spotted hucoon
is an extremely lazy animal. It's thick, mangy fur and sweaty skin create a soothing environment for this creatue, pursuading it to lie around in the sun most of its life. Hucoons are known to hitch a ride on larger, more docile creatures that do not mind their presence.

    Large creature - Valascian Bobble'ers
have an extremely short life span, in which they search for a mate before eventually dying. They are large, pourous creatures with very poor eyesight and exist mainly in desert areas so they can easily spot another Valascian Bobble'er on the horizon. These obese animals are welcome hosts to spotted hucoons because it allows the them to quickly devour any parasites such as "tickle nats" or "bullwisps" as the hucoons scratch them from their fur.

    Watching Totems
In the desert world of Ra' Kau, three species of animals have developed a strange social relation that permits a unique behaviour phenomenon to occur between them. On sunset, they group with one another to form a pilar similar to Earth's "Totem Poles".
Their eyes begin to glow when this phenomenon occurs. Since these species are not harmful to each other, it is believed that they guard their common territories in this way, warding off potential trespassers.

Doctor Jordan's log : Day ten on planet Nias
    Creatures: Magria, Choblo, Seca
This is the tenth and last day of my stay on the planet Nias. The planet itself is full of bacteria and parasite organisms. The planet by nature is a very humid.
I have on record many interesting species, but one in particular or should I say three have caught my attention. These three creatures I have found have attached themselves to eachother as a means for longer survival. I’ll name them by size.

    Large creature - Magria
It looks quite like an elephant and is roughly the size of one. It only has two large feet that are deformed. These legs at first seem like they would make travelling awfully hard but they are very flexible bending in many directions. The Magria can run quite fast like a human being would on two legs and the feet suite going over the bacteria like planes on Nias well.

    Medium creature - Choblo
Very much like a parasite organism, it attaches itself to other species. It is particularly the most aggressive of the three species yet it is completely blind.

    Small creature - Seca
is the smallest of the creatures. It creates rock like formations around its slithery body as a means of protecting itself. It has a large eye at the end of its body.

    Symbiosis
I think I know why these species are connected like this after successfully capturing one with the help of other scientist's and comrades.
Since the Choblo is blind it attaches itself to the Magria. The Choblo by itself can’t hunt. The Magria catches the food with its long snout and feeds it to Choblo. The Magria has a very small mouth so any food that were to be eaten would have to be very small. The Choblo mashes down the food with its sharp maw and swallows all the large portions of the food. Anything left over the Magria sucks up with it’s snout in the choblo's mouth. The Seca act’s more like a scout. Its other tip of the Seca is very sharp and has penatrated into the Choblo’s intestinal tract feeding on some of the food using the other ends of it's body. It is possible that it communicates to the Choble’s by sending electro-shockwaves through its body. It does this to alert the Choblo on any near by prey and the Choblo lets out a loud shriek to also alert the Magria.
By connecting together these creatures survive longer then any other creature I’ve found here on this planet. *End Log*

Large creature - Gellurian Belt Dweller
This sizeable creature lives in asteroid belts surrounding gas giants, feeding off the unprocessed elements. It takes in the elements through its ampullae lined with "gills" which are filters to process the materials the Dweller finds delectable. Its natural state when young is quite weak, with the aid of the Kureech, it grows and forms a dense shell which allows it to go closer to gas giants and satisfy is voracious appetite.

    Medium creature - Kureech
Vile creatures sometimes termed the "floating space anus" it feeds of the excretions of the Gellurian Belt dweller (processed materials)-but it leaves a magnetized residue that attracts space debris that, over time, forms a formidible shell for the Dweller. They like to eat humans too, by the bye.

    Small creature - Durgramite
Typically a tasty treat for asteroid dwelling denizens, it finds refuge in the Gellurian Belt Dweller's ampullae - defending these sensitive organs from the Kureech so they do not become obstructed (which would kill the Dweller). Feeds off dangerous radioactive micro-organisms of gaseous planets that would attach to the body of the Dweller and kill the Kureech--however, this the Durgramite slightly poisonous (space pirate's drug of choice).

    Large creature - Zathul’s Stonetoads
live in the Black Marches of Rithuonia. They are known for their extreme lethargy and can often stay on the same rock for months on end. Stonetoads attract

    Small creature - Amoebal Leeches
that crawl on the toad’s back where they’re safe from predators and feed on the mucus and parasites toad skin is rife with. The leeches in turn secrete a nectar-like fluid which keeps the toad cool and moist. This nectar in its turn attracts

    Medium creature - suckergnats
a harmless and very tasty - though it doesn’t seem that way - sort of overgrown mosquito. Suckergnats are also quite safe in the presence of the Stonetoad. Any creature trying to catch them for lunch quickly becomes the toad’s lunch instead."

    Simbiosisis

Large creature - The Walker aka. Rocky shelled Mamacrab
The walker is a crustacean that provides the transportation for the Water Sprout. The walker is basically defenseless and moves slowly along the oceans bottom looking for dead fish to feed on. It's extremely thick hard shell makes the walker a slow mover and vulnerable to predators.

Medium creature - The Water Sprout
The sprout attach's its tentacle-like routes to the shell of the walker becoming a part of the creature. The Water sprout is like a living water plant much like a sea urchin which is incapable of movements like swimming or walking but it is very much alive. This critter uses the walker for transportation and in return it caches small fish and feeds its companion in order to keep it's home on the move.

Small creature - Shocking bullets aka. silly fish
These small bulbous fish stay within close proximity to the walker and sprout and in return for scraps which are minimal and only a tiny portion of nutrients are of importance to the bullets, the silly fish provide protection for these two creatures. An invisible pulse of electricity is sent out around the 3 creatures if danger is near. The sprout and walker are immune to these pulses of painful electric energy.

    Large creature - Hroog
Hroog is an large, fast predator with enormous muscle power and sharp fangs. It have fantastic smell sense and could move very fast, but it is absolutely idiotic. It is more stupid than primitive life form, like ameba or my little bro. But...

    Medium creature - Oozee
Oozee produce toxic vapors that paralyze and slowly kills an enemy. But as you can see, lonely Oozee is easy prey to anything... it is slow, near unmoveable, and in fact, it doesn't have any senses. So he join on the Hroogs Back, with special hormons deliver antidote for his posion to Hroog, and help Hroog with paralizing enemy or just produce cloud of vapors to hide himself and Joined Hroog...

    Small creature - Volprok
And this is time for something really. Volproks are weak, don't have fangs or poison, so they don't have any chance to prevail alone. But Volproks are very smart. Volprok join the Hroog Body and gain control with special enzimes and hormons over hroog body... When oozee, hroog and volprok create one being, this being is fas, smart and dangerous.

    Large creature – Seelan
These big animals spend their whole life in the clouds. They born and die there. Their organisms can produce Helinium - this element is lighter than air, so they can just hang in the air without moving. Seelans are predators, but when they grow up, they are too big to hunt for birds or other flying organisms. They are just to slow for that. Luckily, when they are getting bigger, they look for some kind of "guests". Old Seelans usually have many organisms living on their body. Frequently these are K'rats and Wozits. They help big creatures to survive in the clouds getting in return a private "island" to live.
    [Place to live]

Medium creature – K'rat aka “Long Neck"
These strange organisms are some kind of parasites. They can be found on big, old Seelans usually attached on their neck. They feed on remains of the big creature' food in exchange for assistance in hunting. They have many eyes to watch the sky, and their saliva can glow with intensive light that lure other flying creatures.
    [Luring]

    Small creature – Wozit
These insects are like private fighter squadron. Maybe they are small, but they have very toxic venom in their stings. They can easily kill if it's necessary. Thanks to Seelans they have place to live, so they protect their big living home. They make small nests in the ossified part of the Seelan's skin [usually on the giants' neck]. They fly in around their home looking for threat and also other small organism that are their food.

it hurts rejecting a beautiful piece like that, but you didn't add a description which could give a hint about how the symbiosis works...i tried to imagine, but it's too open for any interpretations...sorry mate!

notoriginalmcgoo i really have to play out the effort rule on this now...a weekly activity can expect a better worked out drawing...sorry, but you are not the first one rejected for this believe me it's for the sake of COW

No problem FOZZ. I don’t know what happened I have post it. Hmmm.

    Thx Walnut

FOZZ, it was not necessary to include my entry. I know the rules.
BTW, I don't know what happened. I always have text before deadline, because my friend has to correct my errors. However, this was my fault. I didn’t check the text after I have push SAVE button in the advanced mode. I will remember to check this next time!

    Anyway BIG THX FOZZ.

Gotta vote for Jakkas again. The guy is just so good it's evil. Gotta say there were a lot of good ideas this round, with plate's and fozzy's taking the cake originalitywise.

    Artist: Egets
Concept: Three-dimensional creature that lives in symbioses called Ogle-Tre-Omnivorous

Foreword: The interesting idea about this is that this creature lives in another planet called Plantaingoria.

Plantaingoria went through similar kind of industrial revolution that we have on earth hence the "oldfashionish" mobile machine, yet the evolution of things has happened in a different order of priorities so forinstance computers (much more sophisticated than the ones we use here on earth though) were invented before even any simplistic forms of vehicles.

Because some of the aliens born in Plantaingoria are lacking some features in order to survive independently, these three creatures would defenately die without each other and actually hence were not born to be living in symbioses did require a machine to be build to add that which could enhance their quality of living.

The thing is that these creatures are physically vounerable and inadequate ( I mean most of the pieces in Plantagoria) but they have extremely highly developed brains so they can easily invent things to safe their lives or something...actually these creatures that need to live in symbioses are in distinction and rare living in isolation and symbioses in the forest.

Majority of the population in Plantagoria are called Footers, very simple peasantry creatures that are medium built, not too intelligent, just want to find a couple and breed in peace.

However there is another smaller population of Clinotaurs.
What is very characteristics to the male Clinotaurs is that they are very aggressive and proud warrior tribe and has overdoze of testosterones in their body as they are born, they always want to take over the Footers possessions and lands, even that are of small value hence their peaceful -non-ambitious-lifestyle...and this is what brings in the conflicts in Plantagoria.

The Footers has searched shelter from the forests during their refugee time of hiding from the wrath of Clinotaurs, they discovered several of these rare species in their distinction and wanted to help them and as gratitude the creatures - as are depended on The Footer's capability of independent mobility and willingness to help - they contribute their brains storming ideas about building weapons and have ever since been a crucial leadership force in technological evolution in the Footers habitation area

I could go on forever but let me now move on to explain the functionality of Ogle-Tre-Omnivorous symbioses:

    Small Creature: Wombit

Wombit is a kind of evolved worm, like a offspring of worm and some kind of froggylizard, except that it did not succeed very well

Before its co-living with Oogle, it was living on the ground like a plant and hence another more fast expanding specie that use to eat it Wombit was near dying of extintion.

Wombit is small in size and looks harmless but having the perfect protection of bigger creature it is free to expoit its strengths, it has very stretchable neck, poisonous wings attached to its head from which it can shoot poison to a prey at distance and make it paralised, this is how it will hunt for the food: first shoot the poison on the "dinner" then snatch it with its mouth that widens up 8 times its size of that when its closed, as is the neck too. Wombit can swallow enormously big sized animals due to its stretchable skin in the throat. Hands are also stretchable but not as much as the neck.
Wombit cant speak they only makes tiny whining noise and kind of hissess when sees a prey, this hissing noise will inform the Oogl' that they should halt for dinner time.

    Medium Creature: Paraplexic-Digi-Mobile

This one is actually not a creature in itself at all its more like piled up from different "remainants" of body parts and support organs to attach the machinery suitably to the major creature Oogl'.
This entire machinery combilation is a top notch hi-tech of its own time and pride of Footers, they helped to mount it but its the brainswork of Oogl' who has engineered the entire compilation of Paraplexic-Digi-Mobile from the scratch.

There is a metallic box underneath the body of Oogl' where the most important life organs are, although Oogl' has nearly all the organs but needed the machinery to support it from living apart of the tree(read Oogl's description) Most sophisticated about Ogle-Tre-Omnivorous of course is the computerised mobility and functionality, its major job is to connect Oogl's thoughts to the mobile vehicle but also rather than aiding some lack of functionality of Oogl's brains it is taking it to the next level and helping it to continue inventing finer hich tech inventions while the machineries take care of the more trivial things

    Large Creature: Oogl'

Last but not the least. The Brains of this entire symbiotic creature, without Oogl' the entire creature would not exist. Footers found Oogl' living in symbioses with a tree, capable of making use of its capacities only 5 percent hence being stuck in a liveless brainless tree.

Oogl's body is like that of worms but the bottom of their body is open having been cut from the tree from that place and needs to be connected to something, there were some experimentations of it living alone sepereately but hence it has no hands and having difficulty in hunting its own food the only solution was either to leave it live there attached to the tree or find some other solution.

Meeting with footers, the first living specie that could talk and that had brains and were willing to collaborate with, got Oogl's brain mojo working to the highest degree, soon it had come up with a perfect plan to create itself a perfectly mobile construction.

Oogl's eyes are very vounerable and are most of the time closed hence the googles it invented for itself to be able to have an eyesight, These googles are very hich tech adjusting automatically to the bright sun dimming and reflecting the harmful rays away from the eyes and in the darkness transforms to cats eyes giving Oogl' to see perfectly even in the darkest hours of night.

Oogl's can speak any language fluently they have also slight telekinetic capabilities and are mindreaders, hence are dependent on other lifeforms they have have finessed a very emphatic humanly skills in them very well and they also are very eloquent in their speaking manners - actually they can persuate anybody to do anything for them - which is why they also are often used as Great Negotiators in Galactical Century Meetings (okay Im beginning to sound like a Geek now, phew !)

Oogl's knows their own intelligence and are proud of it, it could be said to be their only (minor and acceptable) weakness or achilles heel apart from physical lack of features.

Oogl's dont breed, they are born in Blomerade trees and spread like mushrooms living in symbioses with the tree, this co-living has existed for long.

Before Footers aid, Oogl's lived eating the insects and the fruits of the Blomerade tree, most of the time in a slumber because food is scarce in the trees. Sometimes if Oogl' was lucky it might spot a bird landing to the birch of tree it will snatch it quickly hence its carnivorous.

Since the invention of Ogle-Tre-Omnivorous Oogl' has been able to store information to its own database directly, its a sort of mobile library that the Footers can make use of as well, it can draw graphs and create for instance a vector animation to illustrate its ideas about new techonological inventions and weaponry and armory that it has invented for Footers.

Ogle-Tre_Omnivorous lives very long time, in human years 5-800 years and they have heararchy among themselves which is directly connected to their age, Oogl's have their own personalities which sometimes affects their doings in related to succesful technological inventions.

Although Oogl's dont have sex organs their highly evolved brains can make them have similar kind of orgasmic sensations once they penetrate each others mind and stimulates each others minds simultaneously

This experience usually "corrupts" the Oogl's and takes a path way to some other interests such as inventing smoking Nagusa leaves for even more deeper sensational dreaming and mind penetration and stimulations.

Actually such who has taken a path of orgastic ways are called Dreamers, however not such day dreamers end up mere nuisance, these hmmm dreamers often invent highly entertaining new creations like forinstance aura's where Footers can take part in too, these aura's are like a radiative alternative of altered molecules in a isolated bubble, actually after been refreshed in such aura's Footers has been discovered to have found some skills they never had before such as telekinetic capabilites.

The Dreamers driving force after their sensual experience often become to have them more excess and in more density and this makes their inventions often shine over any others with beautiful flying colors, sometimes can yet contribute to the benefit of hich tech as well if feels like it is of their own interest.

Fozzybar gets my vote. The rendering is excellent, the creatures are original, as are their interactions, and the view of the "firework symbiosis" is beautiful.

Plate, nice work, and the way the three creatures resembled a snowman at the end was pretty funny. i love the red-tail "scarf" accent.

It was a hard choice between Plate, Chuck, mate and JakkaS. All great concepts and images, but in the end you can only choose one, so my vote went to Chuck, mate.

    Very cool ideas this round!

I'm tempted to critique the symbiosis concepts more than the drawings. Some of the individual creatures "weaknesses" and therefore "needs" to exist in their symbiotic relationships seem a little too illogical, considering things like natural selection. Like a creature that grows up too big to find its own food. But a three-way symbiotic relationship seems pretty unnatural anyway, or at least hard to sustain in nature, so I guess I won't be too picky.

The one symbiosis relationship that seemed the most interesting was Chuck,Mate's... "we hang out together to look bigger and help each other survive with mass, sight and a sharp beak." Simple. Implausible, but easy to understand visually if you suspend the disbelief.

That said, I just voted for my favorite illustration all around which was Mike's. A really nice underwater scene. The blurred foreground bubbles really drew me in. Sometimes those little touches make all the difference.

Plate's entry made me laugh, it was a fun and original concept

In the end i voted for Broken_spirit, becuase this concept was refreshing aswell and it got something mystical and mystirious in it.

I had a really hard time voting for this one. Jakkas, Fozzy, and Mike all had great entries. I liked the readibility of Fozzy's and the idea behind it was excellent but the stance of the bird seemed awkward. Jakkas's I liked the concept behind but the rendering isnt the best Ive ever seen from him. I ended up voting for Mike's. The reason for this is that I felt he made really strong use of lighting to convey a certain gloomy deepwater mood and even though he was in a rush he still made time to pay attention to textural details.
I dont think Ive ever had to sit and think about this voting for more than 10 minutes but this time it took me at least half an hour. It was not an easy decision.

I had to vote for JakkaS, his was hands down the most polished and believable piece in my opinion. Many other very fun and entertaining entries.

    Another great round everyone!

Lewis - interesting creatures and combination, good job.

Plate - absolutely hilarious, and nice rendering too.

Soulweaver - cool ideas, would love to see a little more definition in the rendering though...with more contrast it'd have a little more "pop"

Jakkas - what can be said that hasn't already been said? Absolutely gorgeous rendering - intruiging creatures and interesting concept. I just don't know how the medium's creatures eyes help the large one though?

Saise - the Volprok seems fairly close in the size to the oozee for me, otherwise nice job...throwing in some color and more mid-tones to add definition are the only comments I can make.

MikeC - damn, again very impressive and fantastic rendering. Glad they kept it open so you get your entry in. I was very suprised no one else went with an underwater them, so props for tackling that. Only thing that I can comment on is the idea of the medium creature feeding the larger one, but I guess that's another side of "helping each other out" that I couldn't get past, since I was thinking more symbiotic than just friendliness.

Walnut - cool idea and well thought out relationship. Rendering is good too, though I think you could push the darks for more contrast.

    imp_pixel - yay me.

Trashy - intruiging idea and creatures. Would like to get a better sense of the alien anatomy though, and on the larger creature the chosen perspective makes it look like one leg in front of another--making me wonder how it walks. This extends to making the feet/toes look off.

Br0ken_spirit - really cool idea and I like your color choices. I think the description makes me thinking of the creatures helping each other out in various ways, so I would like to know more about feeding/protection that these offer each other, if any.

stephan_R - gorgeous colors and rendering, as well as great idea. I'm not sure if the large creature is in such a rush it would let the medium hang out in its head, but everything else really fits. I really like that bullwisp.

Chuck, mate - fantastic rendering. I'd like to know more about how the creatures work together than seeming ominous. Also, I'm interested in how the seeall helps the blindmug - does it constrict its neck to guide it?

Fozzybar - unique idea, interesting creatures, and great render. Yours is the most complex relation, and you definitely gave it some thought. I'd like to see a larger version of the Bogi

Stephan_R- Your piece stuck out soooo much to me. Your design, concept, and neat flare of style really drove this one outside the ballpark for me. It all works too! This to me is one of the most fun pieces here next to plates brilliant concept.

Jakkas- You came real close to getting my vote. It's a good overall design and your pieces are always a treat to look upon. Mad respect

Fozzybar, Chuckmate., imp_pixel, walnut, MIKECORRIERO, Soulweaver: All great entries too. See you guys at the next COW.

ahhhhh...sorry for that typo. I was talking about Jakkas on the second piece.

Wow! Thank you all so much, I had no idea my goofy little snowman idea would be so well received. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and thanks even more to those who commented on it. To me, knowing I made some people laugh is more satisfying than any number of votes.

Many great entries this round. My vote went to Mike for his believable concept and creature design, and the beautiful rendering he pulled off despite how little time he had to do it. I cast my vote early on before JakkaS' fantastic entry was up there, but if it had been, it certainly would have taken me a LOT longer to decide.

Cool, thanks Fozzybar. Should've asked if you could do that. Can I cast it for MikeCorrerio?
