    Studies

    Here are some more studies.

Cats and girls. Im trying to draw the same face from several different angles/expressions so that im studying the face's form, not just that particular set of lines in a photo. Making them consistent is hard, but very rewarding as I KNOW when im being lazy or not looking hard enough.

    Really cool sketches Kim.

I am getting quite good in sketching, but sometimes is it difficult for me to go to the next level and add detail. I guess it is matter of practice and observation.

    Dished: Thanks.

vlad74 : Thanks. Dont worry about adding detail...worry about careful observation of the overall proportions and form. I have come to realise that whilst the detail is what we associate with a finished piece, thats only because the rest is solid. Detail on flimsy scaffolding still looks wrong and incomplete and takes ages to add.

misscheviouslittleelf : Thanks. Spines? you have spines? what exactly are you....

    Giorge : Thanks.

Metal-mike : Yeah... Very pretty ladies I studied there. Its interesting though cause I find the first few didnt work so well, but after a few and 30 or so 15-20 second ones as well, the likeness came more accurately.

kim you old sausage its been a while. a lot of the stuff u gave me came in very very useful and im still reaping the benefits...your lessons on form have completely changed the way i draw. good to see u updating again as well, ill have to bookmark this. the whole trying to visualise a 2d face from different angles thing is a clever idea ill definately try that out.

i feel u r yet to hit a comfortable middle ground between your really exaggerated caricature like faces and the kind of formulaic but very solid faces that youve got eg up above. doing lots of studies of just normal peoples faces on the tube , 3-5min studies just capturing thier defining features with a few lines has personally helped me build a kind of mental library of features i can draw from...mite help u

man if u have a few minutes to spare on a lunch break id appreciate some crits. your always on point with that stuff. hope oz is treating u well XXX

Thanks for the advice Kim. You are absolutely right. Solid construction is essential.

TheGnoll : Thanks man. Things going very well down under. Spending lots of time being inspired by the art dept people in Animal logic here. Some crazy skills flyin about here.

Sleep: Yeah, I do have a long history of drawing from 'how to draw faces' books that can be a real pain to overcome, but im getting there. I do a lot of drawing on busses and in class after work, so im getting there. Its finding the middle ground between the digital and the drawing that im getting to now. Ill have a look at yer porn just now

Vlad: yep, construction, angles and planes. Sayin it, tryin to live it too... haha

Right... here is the next batch. Some studies and then a caricature.
