    more moods

Another one of my mood paintings. I have started doing studies with very different aspect ratios than my study subject so I have to re-compose them. The point though is to rapidly get a mood and feel of a place/lighting situation.

I really like your environments! Do you have any longer/more finished pieces to show?

h2rra: The most finished stuff I have done recently would be the two owl pics a page or two back. I tend to reserve the polished stuff for work both as concepts or matte paintings... so Yeah, I have a few but cant show any of em. I will do something soon im sure.

I just love doing those quickies as I feel the first 30 mins is make or break... from then on its just fiddling. That said, I do need to start working on how to fiddle WITHOUT breaking the spontaneity of the first 30 mins.

I did this one for the 3ch challenge... I love the randomness of them. this one was "a long legged crying creature welcoming a woman with glowing eyes on top of a mountain"

    WTF?!?

    Anyway, here is the result:

I totally agree on that 30 minute thing. I often work on a painting for 2 hours and if it sucks I will use every trick I know to make it work. After that the painting still sucks and I have wasted around 4 hours. Other times I paint a 15 minute sketch and know I'm gonna like the finished painting.

Cool 3ch, crazy topic, really like those mountains in the background. Keep updating, I've been enjoying your sketches for long time

    Met-mike: Thanks man

h2rra : Thanks. Yeah, Its tricky to keep the freshness going, but thats part of the fun in the challenge I guess. Its so satisfying when you get it right.

mike butkus : Thanks man, glad you like them. Had a look at your sketchbook... Inspiring stuff! so...much...work! Lots for me to learn from in there!

Right, here are some new ones. One is a cloud study of a shot from a plane to get that vast open sky with huge clouds feel... and the other is a head study from imagination using the construction method I found here: (really awesome blog!!!)
