SEA v SoCal: west si-eede show down: FINAL ENTRIES!!!

It's been a long time coming, a one month challenge with ONE topic to be done by all. That topic: A boy and his "dog" (boy+dog; boy+giant mech, etc. Put in a scene/treat it as a char design).
    Notes:
•must be a boy, but the 'age' is open to interpretation just like 'dog' is open to interpretation.
•sorry, 'boy' cannot be interpreted as 'girl'.

The names listed below are Seattle v SoCal and will be shown in that order with all of the final images.

    Pairings:
    Redehlert v Trevor
    Orcatraz v JAGrello
    Undertow v Phuzion
    Prostate Sunrise v Matt Smith
    Flaptraps v Sinix
    Stokes v EvilDisco
    coondoggle v helium macaroni
    dougbot v groover McNab
    tinfoil v character
    prehistoric v misleadtomisery
    tagheuer v red_dude
    winwinja v smitherines
    ragnar x v magicgoo
    corn pony v hell taxi
    nathanicus v llothcat
    m.c. barrett v gygaxis

    Details:
    1. This was a one month competition to begin once all pairings are in place.
    2. This is also a competition where WIPs were posted in this thread.
    3. Any medium was okay, except Photos. Yes, the artists can do sculpture or 3D, we kept it pretty loose.
4.Winning entries will be printed (care of Trevor) on a kick ass color printer that costs more than your existence, so be happy for the wieners.

That's it! Now here are our judges!!!
    DSillustration, Spinefinger, and Matt Dixon!

Damn flaps, always the badass. Nice piece.

Also a big fan of Ragnar's and M.C.B - top notch rendering.

I know phuzion must have something good, maybe he's still out partying from his birthday.

Cheers for one and all! This stuff is awesome. There are so many great pieces, but the one that sticks in my mind is Dougbots -- great coloring of an awesome drawing. Many more raves to come as I have more time to stare at these later.

Quick question; who used computers and who used traditional media? I'm just curious, it seems like the bulk of work on CA is computer, and I'm wondering if it's unusual to try and do oils for this type of project.

Fantastic entries one and all. Can't wait until Tuesday to see the whole show.

nathan - i think that dsillustration (one of the judges) works traditional oils for his stellar pieces. just an fyi.
as for me, i start traditional and end digital - it's a happy fusion = tradigital.

I keep telling myself I'll try digital, but about twenty minutes in I wan to throw my wacom through the screen. I need to smear it with my thumbs, I guess, to be really happy. Maybe if they make a finger painting wacom I'll try it, cuz I really like the looks of some of these. So clean! So sharp!

    I love all this stuff.

nathonicus: you should really try using digital, although I don't recommend getting too comfy with it. You can master digital and not need paper anymore, and more power to those that do so. But I'm kind of the artist that does a lot better when his hands are filthy with lead debris and has a piece of paper that he can feel and move around, let alone free of the electrical current.
But because buying colored pencils is a pain in the ass, I recommend all coloring to be done on a computer. BUT, I appreciate it a lot more when people use oil, watercolor, colored pencils and get their hands dirty. So, never go too one-sided. Balance is the way.
    TRADIGITAL: great word.

dang flaps, that came out nice- you should make snowboard graphics

sinix- you've got that look all your pieces have, that cool feel w/ your nice color selections etc... nice job -you guys were a good pairing- and sinix, im not just sayin' that cuz you said something bout mine haha thanks man!

dad- yours came out nice- now that i see it shrunk down a bit and get the whole picture it looks pro -but that little dude's still a bit stiff

dougbot the tail touching the edge of the piece like that is indecisive...thats all i gotta say. jk the whole piece looks like its from a storybook

katy and tag, i like the cartoony route, katy yours looks like a still from an animation

mcb really brought the topnotchness holy cow lol

magicgoo- i didnt know what your thing was about when u posted the wip, but the little quote is a cool idea

win, i see the dog now!!! haha

stokes- in my opinion, if you hazed out the dog a bit to push him back a into the scene more itd brign the whole a real sense of depth and the piece would be real cool cuz that machinery is crazy...looks like an aliens movie or something. thats what professor horia has to say lol -tear mine up now man haha

smitherines that sorta looks like shadow of the colosus's vibe and style

I can't believe I did that with the tail....dammit! It's from when I cropped it. Can I have 5 more minutes?

'Bout to give my little girl a bath, so I'll write more later.

    Great stuff everyone!

M.C. Barrett, yours is my favorite! Really talented piece and definitely the personal winner choice of me

Everybody: Great great great works! I love them all! I really love all of the interpretations of the idea. Ranging from really super cute to super hardcore, everyone did such an awesome job!

Now I regret not doing mine traditionally. I did the bg in watercolors and was gonna do it in oils, because I'm uncomfortable painting digitally, but I thought I wouldn't have time. Turns out I'm slower digitally Oh well. Next tdome, for sure!

OK everyone. The final tock of the clock hit at 10pm. Latest entries received are from the following:
    orcatraz
    jagrello
    phuzion
    corn pony

The entries will now be reviewed by judges to pick the best of each pairing as well as a best of show.

Check back here in the next few days for the final votes!

    Cheers,
