Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this one. And I'll see them live on July 4th, at the norwegian Quart festival. Hell, it's gonna be great.

Luckily I'm going to be able to catch them in Japan while they're on tour over there. I'm pretty pumped about this album, I have a strong feeling that it's going to be the best to date.

Guess I'll have to wait for the US tour. I wish I still lived in California, then I could go to Cochella. Even though the band takes an eternity between albums, it's worth the wait, since they get better and better...so this one should also be quite the awesome album

EDIT: Yep....Vicarious sounds fuckin sweet....definitely stoked about the new album

    Ive been naughty.

I downloaded a little thing called the new single 'Vicarious'..
(get it from your average places)

7:09 of new Tool. Im pretty damn impressed.
Its everything Tool is, very Lateralus(album).

Listening to this (2nd time right now)
It looks like the album is gonna be something to wait for, no dissapointment by the sounds of things.
Defintly, Defintly gonna buy it now.

Awesome - the ending kicks ass big time.

Have I downloaded a fake version or is Vicarious actually the theme from Doom 3?

Edit: I did download a fake version it seems. Listening to the real thing right now, sounds very good indeed.

Vicarious is a great track, and the jam session track 'Lost Keys' (Blame Hofmann) is great stuff to draw to. I can't wait until this album comes out. I've already got $20 set aside in case there's a special edition box.

The lyrics are much more straightforward while the instrumentals have definetly evolved (dunno if the drums can evolve anymore since lateralus 0,1,1,2,3,5... tho )

The lyrics definetly hit the nail on the head, here they are :

    SPOILER WARNING

"Eye on the TV cuz tradgedy thrills me,
Whatever flavor, it happens to be like.
Killed by the husband, drowned by the ocean,
Shunned by his own son he used to poison.
    In his dream,
    He kissed goodbye.
    That's my kinda story.
It's no fun until someone dies.
Don't look at me like I am a monster.
    Thrown out your one face,
    But with the other.
Stare like a junkie into the TV.
    Stare like a zombie,
While the mother holds her child.
    Watches him die.
    Pleads to the sky crying,
    "Why, oh why?"
Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance.
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all needn't choose your own lie.
Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'.
Neither the brave nor bold were writing the stories so,
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'.
I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance.
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all feel the same, so...
Why can't we just admit it?
    Blood like rain come down.
    Drownin the grave and ground.
    Part vampire.
    Part warrior.
    Carnivore and voyeur.
Still have the transmittor. La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)
Could you at least admit that your desire to believe,
The angels in the hearts of men.
    Pull your head on out,
Your head believes so give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
    The universe is hostile,
    So impersonal.
Devour to survive, so it is,
    So its always been.
    We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire.
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
    Much better you than I."

    hey Aether,

those lyrics are not complete, here:

    Eye on the the TV
    'Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...
    "Killed by the husband"
    "Drowned by the ocean"
    "Shot by his own son"
    "She used a poison
    in his tea...kissed him goodbye"
    It's my kind of story
It's no fun until someone dies

    Don't look at me like
    I am a monster
    Frown out your one face
    But with the other
    Stare like a junkie
    Into the TV
    Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child
    Watches him die
    Hands to the sky crying,
    "Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all needn't choose your lie

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
    Neither the brave nor bold
Are right as the story's told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?

    Blood like rain falling down
Drawn by the brave and proud

    Part vampire
    Part warrior
    Carnivore and voyeur
    Still have the transmitter
    Sink to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

    Credulous at best
    Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
But pull your head on out
Your head, please, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

    We all feed on tragedy

I've taken an oath to myself that I will not listen to the released track, (nor download the leaked album), and will wait till the 2nd to BUY the album and... under the influence and intoxication of a certain fungus will lock myself in a dark room and listen to it in its entirety, letting the tears of joy roll down my cheeks.

I may take heat for this, but Vicarious just didn't wow me.

Production is interesting-- the drums are a little looser and fatter sounding than Carey's tech usually lets them get, and Maynard is a lot more gravelly sounding than he has been in the past (was he sick? I didn't hear this progression with any of the APC stuff...) Otherwise, well, it's same old Tool. And middle of the road Tool at that. Maybe my expectations are high, but there's no spot in the song that makes me jump up and say "Damn!!" The beginning of the track is very "Schizm". There's no crazy time signature stuff that makes my head explode the way, say, the bridge section of Lateralus does (how does Carey make his hands and feet play in two different times?). It's a straight 5/4 throughout, and doesn't really circle around the variations in the meter the way "The Grudge" did. There's not the same broad dynamic range that their newer stuff has really had. Maybe it will take a few more listens to really appreciate, but right now I'm hoping that the album kicks me a little harder than the single has.

I have to agree with you, but more so on the rest of the album than vicarious specifically. There is a big internet rumor going around that they band purposely leaked an album full of b-sides (with the exception of vicarious, which if true would probably appear on both). I really hope this is true. While the songs Im listening to are really good, they definetly have that b-side quality to them. A lot of songs are just jammy. Not progressive like the last two albums have been. there seems to be a general lack of any epic progression really. Theres no third eye or reflection on this album. Some of the songs have been heard before on bootlegs from a good 4 years ago...

On top of that, the album art that they released a while back is pre-existing alex grey art:
    Tool / 10 000 days

I am not aware of Tool using nothing other than original art for their albums..... Theres definetly a few things fishy about the whole album leak thing. If it's their real album, its still good, just not as good as aenima or lateralus. Or i would even say Salival either. Fingers crossed that they leaked a bunch of previously unused tracks to try and curb internet thievery......

Yeh guys, i feel exactly the same, except to be fair, i think Vicarious is a pretty good song, best on the 'leaked' album.
That said though its defintly a very good album, just maybe lacking in those certain things Tool.
Maynard singing takes a step down for the guitar and drumming (which is amazing) and consequently the songs dont have as much ooohmmff to them. They all lack that progressive sound and variation of pretty much all there other music. Also maynad doesnt scream enough.. its got so much energy it just 'makes' the songs.

That said some of the music is still pretty good, The Pot and Jambi are good.. as is 10000 days -which is the closest to real tool.
Maybe it is all the faked stuff.. and well be in for a whole nother 11 songs of pure tool joy.
