ogar555's sketchbook [Updated 19th mars 2007] Bigassamountofpics, slowpokes beware.
I've been considering fixing a sketchbook here for a long time now. But tonight i finally decided.
Why didn't i make one earlier? Cause i kept thinking: "I have to get better at drawing before starting a sketchbook"... Which is essentially really dumb. So anyhow, first piece.

you're making really nice marks, do you do woodcuts at all? if not, i hightly recommend giving it a shot. you'll love it. my one real crit is that the eyes on the full head don't seem like they're sunken in enough, pretty surface-y and the form of the ear is kind of odd. post some more stuff up.

Thanks! I will definately do more of em! And this time... with... a regular pen... and a paper.
Oh, well i dabble a bit in both actually. It's just that i can't work as fast in traditional. And it's expensive... But i love it!
One great thing i noticed though: after using Painter for several weeks and testing out many of the tools. Finding some i like and feel pretty comfortable with using. I got the idea to try something different in art class. I usually only draw with pen and paper. So i tried Pastels and the first pastel pic i ever drew turned out great! I believe its cause i could practice lots and lots of times in Painter. So i just used the experience gathered there and applied the same techniques and it worked fine!
Anyhow, some sketches i did two days ago but forgot to post:
Still Painter, i've done some regular sketches but i'm to lazy to install my scanner right now.

@TheGnoll: Thanks and damn. I'm using imageshack so... they should be working. *ponders*
Arrrh, i think i'm gonna post some of the gestures i've made later.

Post more, now!

hey ogar, great sketchbook; you've got a really nice handle on painter it seems, all your digital work is looking really good. I especially like this last one with the guy in profile; the color choice and detail is great, and the only thing that confuses me a bit is his eye, feels like that's a rather extreme angle for his eye to be at (I could be wrong though ). great stuff though, keep at it!

Thanks Onir! And i realize you are very correct about the eye it was bothering me very much when i drew it.
Anyhow, some more pics. Long time since a update.
Dsg blue... Not finished.
Just something pointless to make time go.
Some random character design... ermm... test? Will paint it.
And a WIP. It's gonna be his WoW character meeting with a molten giant.

I'm gonna try to studie some vehicles to get better at that... And i'm gonna try to design at least 1 character, 1 environment, 1 vehicle and 1 creature a day. Let's see for how long i can keep up. :]
I was really inspired after looking through a couple of sketchbooks. So thank you everyone!

Like the skull studies and perticularly like the mark making shown on this one:
Also like how simple you indicated the form on this:
Im not much of a fan of your use of the chalk brush however. Its grainy but its personal preferance I guess. Love to see more of those studies.

grainy brushes for the win
Love the studies and digitals - you really have a good eye for colour and light, and far better eye to hand control then eye - cheers.

Bendragon: Thanks! I didn't like the way it behaved... so I have experimented with it alot since then and I'm getting close to get it how I want it to be.
