dump. Jan12th.P8. let's finish the year.

    Hi.
I posted only a couple of times here, but i feel like sharing some of my stuff now.
More used to deal with CGtalk and assimilated, i'm about to switch, i guess, to something more roots!
Yup, i've been working in the CG industry for almost 9 years now, doing this and that, teaching, etc...
And i guess i left my soul somewhere around and i think it's time to change. Time to go back to the real thing.

Since 4 years now, i decided to do more and more illustrations, just as i did in the past.
    But as i left drawing for 3D, it was pretty hard to get any kind of satisfaction from my nauseous drawing skills;
that's why i kept on working on cool meshes, and then, after some tests renders, used them as a "rough" material
(well, it depends, sometimes it ain't that rough).

i've seen some of you here doing the same, especially in the game industry. Well, i love this too!
So here it is. Various moods, various subjects.
I guess that in less than one year now, i'll leave CG (as a job) to focus only on comics, illustrations
    and probably sculptures.
Ok for sure 3D will be a base for my work, even if i tend to include more and more drawing and painting in it.

Hope you'll like it. Feel free to comment and critic this all. I'm ready

    seeYa

    It's not really chronological...
Starting from this, i'll upload my new works regularly now.

Haha, wow what a small world this is. I've seen your stuff plenty of times on 3D Artists and here you are on ConceptArt. As far as "nauseous drawing skills" go Im not quite sure why you would say that. Especially since you have to have a strong background in analog skills such as drawing and painting to really succeed in your chosen field, at least from what I hear anyway. CG or classical media, it doesn't matter, they all revolve around the same general principles of value, color interaction, composition, etc.

    very interesting work!
i can't nail down what you're doing, which is cool.
i think you mention some 3d and painting together, but it's hard to tell for me what's what.
a good sign of mastering your mixing of media in my opinion.

the daredevil ones are my faves.
    very cool!

Yay! great to see you here, it's a great site I really dig your work as I have said numerous times on CGTalk. And I totally understand your point of view, I'm also going to start to work on a comic book with such "hybrid" techniques. Are you completely fed up with SFX in general?

Some great stuff here man. I really like the way you are using 3d in 2d. you are on to something there. Digging your beefy dudes especially as they are mass and bulk, but not super ripped to where we see every fiber of muscle.

The stuff that is more Dave Mckean inspired is lovely too. But Dave sooo established that look that no matter how killer a piece is, I don't think anyone could top him at his own game.

BUT when you are combining the two looks, you are on to something. Reces's peanutbutter cup theory. Take two great things, combine them, and BAM you got something new.

    oki. quick development and answers

THANKS first for the kind words ! Seriously! Not gonna name each of you, but i really find energy when things turns this way.

Fish: you are freakin' right. Mr Mc kean is obviously a major influence to me. More visible in my past works i guess, but still. it's there, and as you said, you can only get bruises when you play with the master
So i tend to do my own mish mash... i guess Dave will be there, in some dark corner of my memories.... bah...
(btw. seen some of your stuff, 1word: inspiring. dynamic...eh, that's 2 words)

i got a website: www.e338.com. You might see a couple of pict that are not here, but basically, the best i did is there. Anyway, have a look if you have time.

Vigostar. Nope, didn't try to sell it to Marvel, maybe i should... need a contact there... could be sweet.

M@ ! you here! so funny to see how small is the workd sometimes.
    see you soon

Thanks for the share. What I am interested in is the mixing of texture worlds, the scratches, the smooth, the layers, the realism gradiated into edgy graphic design... love this look, it's where I am at. I am working on an art book (my own project) called "Being A Dad" and I am also integrating all this different media. I have been drawing with a lasso tool and filling in with solid color, reminds me of Roger Deans work or the end credits of the Lemony Snicket's film, then hand drawing and painting, digitally designing, and more - very cool.

My main critique for your work is how you are using white light. It's so powerful that it takes over. I suggest putting color there, still stay light but try purple, blue, orange, yellow and see how that makes the rest of your color sing.

    Best,
    ~M

I have been looking at your Alias piece for some time. I was working on a feature film doing concept art and had to design tatoos on these very intense alien creatures. That is a really nice piece.

very interesting work, especially the positive/negative space twists like in the batman portrait. I would caution against letting some of the textures become too strong, some of them are noisy and fight against the subjects. imo, a 5-10% reduction in those layers would be enough to squash my crit.

welcome aboard and I heartily look forward to more!
