here are some paintings i have been working on for an upcoming show. i will be showing next door to mister shawn barber this saturday. those in the bay area should really come out and support. i promisse you, with the artists that will be showing, you will not be dissapointed. so these are all done in oil on panel, ranging from 11x14 to about 18x20(the liquor store scene) small yes. i enjoyed working on a small scale this time, breaking out the mahlstick and small rounds. no ref used....just kidding. anyway, these arent the best photos, but hope you like.......-c36

I hate you.
i think they are wonderful. I'm actually putting my portfolio together atm myself, and i'm finding the hardest peices to put together are the real life perpestive. So i can really respect and admire the talent it took to get these finished.
that car in the first one....
the row of posts in the second...
and the warm/cool in the last one....
wow, incredible realism. and the colors. feels just like im there.

you're right this is crap...you should be ashamed of yourself coro.
excuse me while I go wash my eyes...
CORO! You are a sexy bitch! lol beautiful work man. You nailed the whole night life feel right on the head. The detail is really amazing! I just wish I lived in the bay area so I could come along =[
^keep me going by visiting my sketchbook^
heh...like you need our support...the last gallery show you had was so packed people were flooding out onto the sidewalk and into the liquor store.
It was an impressive show non-the-less and I'm sure this one will be just as hot.
These must have taken you what... an afternoon?
THE cars! the lights... the edges! have to say 2nd is my favorite! as always I stand in awe, much love man much love
Definitely a new twist on something so familiar if you're an SF local. The tilework on the 'Drugs' welcome mat is brilliant. Once again I'll try to make it to the show opening.
great stuff man. wish i could attend the show.. .id really like to see your paintings in person. the tile entrance to the drugstore is beautiful. . . great warm and cool action.
looking forward to your next painting update
Makes me think of Edward Hopper, if he could paint well :o
I'm constantly amazed at how you make lights so damn bright, those car headlights in the second pic are dreamy
Not trying to rickshaw this thread and everyone's entitled to an opinion.... but man, sometimes I gotta wonder.....Makes me think of Edward Hopper, if he could paint well :o
Hopper? Wasn't he the guy who painted the big mutated tentacle girl with 5 boobs and giant machine guns? In a diner?
coro, the stuff looks awesome, your colors are gettin way gooder, if that's even possible. the subtle green spot in the street on the first one is sweet candy. I recognize that spot too And all the little details in that store scene, I guess snorting ritalin out of the ass cracks of little boys has really paid off! Wow!
I'm gonna try to make it out to the show before I have to head to work on Sat. night...
uAUH ! This looks like a present day Edward Hopper ! Good work !
Crap ! : ))
Damn, i was gonna bring up the Hopperness of these. Anyway, ireally love how you define all the forms so clearly. And the way you handled the light, especially in the drugstore ones is also very admirable. If i didn't live a whole continent away i'd definetly check that show.
I've allways enjoyed your stuff from the first moment I saw your sketchbook
work, your site, till the paintings I saw you do in Amsterdam and Prague.
Your one of the most amazing and inspirational artists for me on this site as well
Still... I don't think these paintings reflect your ability to the fullest. I don't
know.. what it is really....
The way you're trying to incorporate more abstract shapes and putting less
detail in em is more convincing in a lot of older paintings on your site, I think.
I don't know, maybe it's the photo quality, maybe it's the expectation of being
completely blown away when I click on a thread you started...
You'll allways be a major inspiration, just this time I'm not feeling ' IT '. sorry
Sincerely hope your not offended as it's not meant that way
All the best

drawing, and ugly, and nothing else." JAD Ingres, Ecrits sur l'art
now that's what I call keepin' it real ! plain awesomeness dude !
Why don't you guys (with Shawn) tell us more about your artistic statement. What is it behind the idea of documenting your everyday environment, transcending it with oils and your amazing painting skills ?
wow.... just pld: wow....
if I felt I could live with myself after critting these beauties then I'd have to agree with Mike's crit about the car in the 1st one. It struck me like that, too.
Wonderfull stuff, I too was emmiediatly reminded of Hoppers realism and shadowplay. Just wondering if Grocerise is misspelled for a reason? Or did the shop have a sign like that?

This would be my Pleine Air blog
Man, so well executed. Flawless. It is obvious you can paint like a m-fckr! With all those skills I guess I was hoping for something a little unexpected. Something further away from your source material. Though I am floored by your technique, I am not surprised by your subject matter. Which is silly cause I think I totally get what you were after, and you nailed it, 100%, so who cares what I need. But I am looking for more. Even if you want to stay this true to reality, something as small as a hidden element, like a skull placed in each image that you have to look 5 times to catch. Behind a column, in trashcan, under car. Skull might be silly but could be anything though.
But no doubt you can frickin PAINT!

geeze dude... WTF kinda Art Drug do you use!>?@#>?# that circular one is my fav out the bunch... I figured it might have been a bit difficult to do something like that and to make it look precise. You da man! see you at the workshop..
Mainloop- man i must be dyslexic.. cuz i thought you asked how many people are on lsd
specially nice job on the blue neon of the 4th one. (Hard to render electrical phenomenons with oil)
Your scenes reminds me a bit Ed Hopper, without the melancholy, but more juicy

Oh man I miss SF. These really make me miss it there. Thanks for makeing me cry! hehe!!
These look great!! My favorites are the second, and fourth painting. In the fourth I love all the abstract bright shapes that make up a convienant store.
I would love to come and see this show and support, but alas I am here in NY.
You always have really nice paintings Coro.
