CATL SKetch Group Fridge!! Fresh and Pasture-ized milkings straight from the field!!To join in the discussion on new events and just meeting each other, go to this thread in local artists groups
CATL Sketch Group!
CATL = "CA (ConceptArt)" + "ATL (Atlanta)"
Meeting number one! The ice was officially broken and the pot boiled over!
Although it was far too brief, it was a blast drawing with you all; am looking forward to discussing (either here or by email) what and where we should go next time to bust out the artist UNsane party ... airports, zoos, aquariums were all thrown out ...
The following are two scans from my book along with the user- or real names of the participants; hope to see you all post the results from your books!
+++ Four-Winged Humanoid +++Watch out for this guy, he flies AND he's got some disturbing chin-dribble fleshy hangings... though it's nowhere near as wrong as testicles coming off of a beak.
[afterwards decision edit: minor modification for sketchgroup's impression sake ]

From the bowels of my sketchbook...
Hello to my fellow CATL members and anyone else lookin':
These are 2 pages from my sketchbook of our sketchjam session:
The Ice Demon. Created by Guggenmanuver, Melissa H., Eric R., and me
Obese Dog. Created by Guggenmanuver, Fae, Melissa H., Eric R., HugeHarHar, Retep, Chromatic Codex, and me
This was fun and I was because by the time it was over (which was too soon) everyone was warming up. If I didn't have work to do I would've stayed longer. I'm definetley down for our next one and if theres anyone who is in the ATL, holla and join in for the next one.

the last thing you want to catch while fishing...
created by... Guggenmanuver, Melissa H., Eric R., HugeHarHar, Retep, Chromatic Codex, and me

The cicada does look tight. Where's the ancient fishes and the creature hunter/viking dude? Looking forward to seeing those.

Well, you guys and gals certainly have some bizarre shit going through your twisted little minds on the way to the page. I like it. It's great that you got something like this together and I'm sure that you'll have a lot of fun, so I can't wait to see what comes next.

Melissa (MOTYKA), Ben(VHY), and I had a mini and EXTREMELY impromptu artist sketching caffeinated last night after the Atlanta Artist Center session last night--> Ben (vhy) suggested making random marks on a page, sending books around once, and then taking the resulting randomness and in your own sketchbook turning it into a finished or more finished concept or drawing. I turned mine into this portrait of this weird looking man sitting behind us. I'm not so good at drawing on the DL like that... but i think there is something of a likeness here. Can't wait to get together on Saturday afternoon with all of you!!! If you are from atlanta or will be in the area this weekend, it would be cool to hang out and draw for a while. PM me for more information and i can add you to the CATL list!

Here's the Jesus Monster. So named because if you saw him running toward you, you would probably exclaim in a blasphemous manner.

I really enjoy the texture you work up on your designs. This one has a very "elemental" feel to it without compromising its animalistic quality.
This is certainly one of those things that make you shriek, "Kill it! KILL IT!" the moment it leaps into view. No hesitation. No moment of quiet contemplation. Just drop it...and then flee....because if there's one, there's probably another...
Edit: Guggen posted ahead of me. New comments: I see that G-Rock did not let the salsa-infused debauchery of May 5th get in the way of some sketch time at the dinner table. I also see that I made it into the sketchbook. And yes, there is a period at the end of my name. I thought only the Universe and I knew that, but apparently Guggen has been let in on the secret...Note to self: Pack the right lead for Saturday's sketch group. Drawing in pen = bad pictures. I'm not as accustomed to pen as Guggen is and I ended up having an "ink attack" on Friday night...

Thanks for the yellow Guggen, I'll remember it always. Nothing expresses true friendship like warm, runny vomit. The bubbly syringe is a nice touch. It takes me back to my gradeschool days.
Analogdoll: Killing is a reoccuring topic in a lot my art work, as you will soon see. Whether its monsters killing people, or about to kill them, or monsters that look like they want to kill you, I've got it covered. Sometimes people are killing each other, or have just decapitated someone. Hmm, I wonder if I should be telling you all this <suspicious glare> .

Grendel G - it's a good thing I moved away from The Queen City (charlotte, NC for all you Georgians tuning in) to HOTlanta last summer...I've seen your website...I know your work...If your imagination were to take physical form, the world would run the color red that Crayola dare not produce...
Your art is the reason to sleep sword-in-hand and not linger long near the shadows...
Although, if I did remain in NC, I'm certain we'd give the CATL group a good run for their lives...

...and I just updated my sketchbook thread with some more crap- my reaction to the unpopular demand to do so (joel).

Bodies CATL sketchgroup #4 thingie
That exhibit was well worth the $20 bucks. We were drawing from around 9:30 am to about 2:30. The only thing frustrating was getting a clear shot at what your drawing. It got crowded real quick. Anyway, here's what I got:
discusman...with cameo by volleyball dude
I was at the worst possible angle trying to draw this.
...starting to warm up...
I like this one. I'm gonna paint it later.
I'm happy with this one too.
approaching burnout...the flayed out cheek muscles made me think of a fish
welcome to burnout ladies and gentlemen...
