ConceptartCohesion #001: 8th Day >>> EOW VidaNova Corporation

template for weekly threads 1st post

    ConceptartCohesion #001: 8th Day

    Storyline:

    The year 2446 CE

Mankind and its technology have advanced at an exponential rate, however trivial political, religious and social demands have caused the splintering of former superpowers into smaller nation states, pitting themselves against each in a number of minor conflicts.

Since 2395 a minimum of 27 conflicts, hostile incursions and border disputes have been raging in various confined areas across the planets surface, sparking a new global economy.
Covenants of major corporations have banded together in various factions and are now the true international players, feeding the ever increasing demand of new weapons technology.
The change in style of warfare has rendered weapons of mass destruction virtually useless increasing an appetite for more unconventional weapon systems, specifically the VidaNova Corporations newest developments in the field of creating new species of animals bred for specific purposes.

The idea behind this new move is too harness the animals natural intelligence, sensory abilities, and ability to traverse difficult terrain. They are currently working on models for civilian implementation, ranging from beasts of burden for remote areas to leisure models as pets. However there have been worrying reports of certain products escaping from captivity, and having unexpected effects on the flora and fauna they interact with, conspiracy theorists place blame on a huge range of subjects, ranging from the Cytarabinoside used in manipulating metabolic pathways in the animals, to mother earth resting control back from humanity to satan himself.
Some minor political and religious groups are already rallying, trying to bring this series of unnerving events to the public eye, wild rumors and conspiracy theories are already calling this the 8th day of creation.

    Topic:

VidaNova Corporation - Genetics and Biological Materials Department - Site C

    Description:
VidaNova Corporation - Genetics and Biological Materials Department - Site C - Somewhere along latitude 14° South, this large isolated facility of the VidaNova Corporation Houses several small but vital research, development and construction departments. Intelligence suggests they have recently made large strides in the fields of tissue synthesis and behavioral adjustment of their products.
Visual reports describe massive, and entirely self sufficient architecture, housing at least three hundred employees including support personnel, Vehicles, holding pens and the suggestion of a large underground tunnel complex.

    300 hundred
That could confuse someone. 300 or 300.000?

Houses several small but vital research, development and construction departments
    -sounds like 300

describe massive, and entirely self sufficient architecture, housing at least 300 hundred employees including support personnel, Vehicles, holding pens
-and that makes it looks like 300.000 could be the number.

    My guess: 300.

koshime, in a nutshell, its almost like before, in this case, draw a freaky secret base with a lab in it and your gold. It just fits in with the other weeklies and theres a tad more flavour. Could be anything from an outside areal view to a scene in an underground corridor, jes run with with it.

I get the impression that this lab had to be some kind of living organism itself. Am i terribly mistaken on this?

Red Rook: Ah ok, glad to have that cleared up. So we gotta draw farms and a power plant too? Or something like that? Man, this is gonna be one hell of a project. I think i'll keep this assignment for the last, enviros aren't my strongpoint.

well you gotta be creative with it "a farm" sounds a tad dull if you get my drift, what his the the entire top level of the building was like green houses, and what lets say the power plant was a damn, maybe the entire complex is built as part of the damn in a huge valley, that kinda thing.

    Bionova 1

this large four building complex has large water gathering funnels on the roofs, which due to the heavy rainfall at this tropical latitude not only collects all the water needed for the facility but provides hydroelectric power through a series of cascading generators. The builings are solar heated and water cooled and nearly entirely made of Glasstex a clear, impervious substrate.
The doctors and staff of this facilty have found that their genetic creations flourish and survive much better in a semi-natural environment, so the entire upper survfaces of the buildings are cultivated and planted as gardens and farmed for food crops. as well as being holding pens for the experiments.

    done

    repectfully if tentatively submitted

i don't think i'll have time to do an EOW, Rook, but in case i do, i have a ? about the 14deg S latitude -- it's pretty specific, and in fact was a major factor in the direction i took for the COW topic -- should that be considered a significant brief spec for the enviros?

i was thinking 14 degrees S lattitude...isnt that strange. Lattitude means more east to west and longtitude north to south isnt it?

    looky here: http://jwocky.gsfc.nasa.gov/teacher/latlonarchive.html
technically it might be more accurate to make it -14deg, but the "S" sort of takes care of that in casual usage.

Yea, latitude is north and south not east and west Koshime. I wasn't sure myself until I looked around on the net.

    So here's a WIP.

Hopefully I'll have the time to finalize this, but we'll see.

Oh, and one question Rook. Do we need a description of our own with these or does the original suffice? Though I guess some description is in order.

    Thanks

if anyone would like some interesting landscape refs for Northern Territory, Australia, try googling "Kakadu National Park," some nice escarpment/jungle juxtapositions, waterfalls galore, etc.

Pritch - That's a great start. But my first thought when I look at it is "Saruman's Tower from LOTR"... anyone else get that vibe? It think it's the black tower circled by the far off wall connected by radiating pathways - coupled with the proximity of the mountains.

It's not necessarily a problem, but something you might want to look out for.

Thanks for the feedback Panagos. I totally see what you're saying. The circular area with the pathways I actually am aiming to be a canopy which cover a valley or giant pit where the animals are bread and what not. I was thinking of making it surrounded by cliff walls instead of mountains, but that would be just to insert a waterfall into the background.

So yea, I don't know. I like the idea of a tower but I definitely want to stay away from anything that overtly reminds people of LOTR or anything else. Maybe less of a towering shaft in the middle will help.

Thanks again Panagos and any other crits are extemely welcome.

I think it can be a big industrial complex with a huge security wall and only one possible way to get inside - the overground autobahn.
The tubes allways smoking. And local people call this complex "The CloudsMaker"

Yo digitalfly, that looks great; the buildings stand out nice. Very dramatic. Keep it up!
