    Fight the Mundane.Nov., 16.

Right now as of 09/09 I am enrolled in AAU's online illustration program. Is this a crappy way of doing an art education? Maybe. Is it a lot of money? I'm going to be in debt for a long time. I know this.

But I have to learn and get some feedback on what I'm doing, obviously I don't get much feed back from my sketchbook, and that's OK. For awhile I felt pretty bad about no one seeing my art or thinking I was the shit. I know I'm not. Being here has ground that into my skull unmercilessly.

I'm getting there though. There's some slow progress as you scroll down. I'm not going to quit, I don't know what I want to do, (everything) but I'm going to get there.

Got any new stuff? The only thing i really have to say is that you need to work on your technical skills- you have some interesting things going on here, but the execution could use some work. Not bad, though.

Have a bunch of stuff for people to not look at, fortunately for y'all my scanner broke. Unfortunately my tablet and Painter work fine (I still suck though).

Did a little more on the cephalomaiden.

    nice.

Some of your drawings don't have a lot of form. I would just suggest maybe you could start trying to draw and forms and see how that works. Ya know, think more three-dimensionally.

I'm actually liking the way this is turning out, despite the anatomy issues I still have to work on.

Liking the hands and feet page ^^ Keep up the studies, if you can draw the entire body like that you won't have that much longer way to go

Actually made myself finish something for a change. Did the Spiderman for one of my students as a gift for his son. The Alien speeder is some more Painter practice.

    Take it easy.

First one is a ref from a Michelangelo sketch, the second is a couple of actual quick poses: top one is crap, bottom one is a lil' better and the last is another ref of features. Trying to work the charcoal. The pics are fuzzy because they're shots from my digicam.

    Take it easy.

    Hey dogsbrother.

It's a pleasure to look through another's sketchbook, I'm really starting to like this area of conceptart, now that I'm finally a part of it myself.

You have some decent pencil work, and I really enjoy seeing somebody else honestly exploring the technical and studious side of illustration, I also have a weak spot for dragons and other critters if they're done properly. Practicing anatomy and the human form helps quite a bit, and translates to almost any form imaginable, since it takes quite a bit of observation to get it 'right.' I would suggest leaving the pencils behind once in a while and practicing with alternative 'painterly' mediums that you would hold like a piece of chalk. Loosen up as much as possible for quick studies, and do a lot of tonal and silhouette studies. Try layering different silhouettes at different tonal ranges, to get a 3D effect, from the blackest of blacks, to the lightest of grays.

Just my two cents. Keep it up!

If you made it down this far you rock!
The first four are some still lives and life drawing with a self portrait.

The rest are all challenges I didn't make the time to finish, or doodles when I had some down time at work.

I've been doing some head and facial studies from the iternets in the first two and then the last four were from a book I found in the discard pile at the library called "The Family of Man", it's pretty sweet photo journal from the mid fifties. The last one is something I thought looked cool, then I scanned it and didn't like it...

    Back to studies.

The first part of the exercises for Analysis of Form class, there's about six more pages of these, who wants to see eight pages of foreshortened circles though?

The first of many gesture drawings I'm going to have to do for Figure Drawing class. I've never really just looked for the masses without getting caught up in detail. We were to do ten two minute mass gestures and then pick our five best, I think I'm going to have to blast out about a hundred to get even remotely proficient.

More assignments tomorrow. Or when I get a chance to photograph them.
