General Ackbar? Heh. That's an adorable dog by the way.
Something is missing in the environment there, needs to have a definite focal point, at the moment everything in the foreground is more or less detailed at the same level and looks a bit flattened-out.

good point
the pillar should have had some designs on it and become the focus, but i ran out of steam.
the last few months have been a very strange time and I was just pleased to make anything at all. Thanks for the crit, I should address this next time I get a bit of creative juice.

Damn, those creatures looks so awesome! looking forward for more!

I have been having a tough time lately - not an excuse, just how it is, but today I felt inspired to restart the engine and start to knock the rust off of all that machinery once more.
So I dug up the 3ch and edited one of the themes a bit and made myself a platter of topics to draw. Something comfy and familiar for me and hopefully fun and maybe even productive?
So here's an hour of doodling on the first few this morning:

yeah i will finish all the sketches (about 10 in total) then pick some to work over more render them out etc.

i did another pass on that monolith, still not really happy but it was fun to do which is important, eh?

Hey cw, nice improvement on the monolith pic. looks a lot more interesting. maybe try pushing the horizon back a bit further by adding some more atmospheric perspective.

Hey cw. I like the last piece. Colours look great.
Just a suggestion though, I think that the whole structure of the section above the entrance could do with a bit of refinement. The perspective of the veriticles and horiztonals around that area don't really line up too well. I know it's supposed to have a kind of 'organic' feel to the architecture but changing these might help the picture out.
Hope you don't mind but I did a quick paintover to give you an idea of what I mean. It's barely noticable and pretty rough but see what you think anyway!

spurious update:
Our game-before-last won a BAFTA last night - hurrah to all involved in its production. It was hard but worth it!

Yeah you're right it is a bit wonky, stuff is too parallel, not properly worked out at all I must confess. Thanks for the paintover.
I'm not having much luck with my artwork at the moment, concentration span is out of the window thanks to psychiatric medication!
I'll go for a round 3 attempt when I have some mojo stored up. Thanks for the comments!
Comments are motivating!

Hey sketch group buddy!
I'm really digging your work. Is that a random topic generator or something you are working with above? Sounds like something cool to do.
I really like the way the monolith's coming out. I wish my damn sketchbook work could be as clean.

hello pezzle.
thanks for the comments. yes there is a random topic generator called 3ch kicking around the place. it can be quite cool for breaking mental blocks and getting wierd ideas.
I rewrote it but I didn't hear back from the original authors about whether they would mind me sharing it so at the moment it's on my hard drive only. Give it a whirl, it can be fun!
I have not been posting for a while, will get back to it soon - had some other stuff to deal with in the meantime. :/

Really inspirational stuff! Your creature designs are killer, and I looove the colors you choose. They always seem to be the right ones. *envious fistshake*

Despite merely being a familiar animal with a greater number of beaks than normal, that bird is marvelously unexpected and alien.

I was watching some of your sketches on first page, and then I watch this and it's like "omg", you really have improved, and motivates me to keep working, so thanks for that mate, keep working and you gonna get even better

thx for nice comments.

thing a day 4 - blind lake fisher, uses its regrowing hand-lures to dangle in lake water, and then ambush inquisitive prey with bounding rear legs and thick swimming tail, having needle like teeth to hold on to slimy aquatic denizens.
