Ok, I' just officially (unofficially?) joined your SSG. Good work with the creatures in the beginning of the thread. Your two last sketches are good.
The figure in the upper left hand corner on the top has some problems with his left leg. I think its not overlapping enough of his lower body. The rest looks good and where can you by grey markers? I've been looking for them for quite some time.

G'day, I've gatecrashed your SSG as well, hope you don't mind

Some real nice gesture studies here, I like your style, 'specially the marker and ink ones.

ta for crits - ur right about that overlap. one of my most rubbish skills is foreshortened anatomy (hence the studies/gestures)

heres some more crap i scribbles while reinstalling windows yesterday night

    ..

I will do a lap of us all for crits later today or tonight - busy day ahead

Great work in here Rex. The anatomy is really good, but facial structure seems to be lacking. I can't tell if it's just because these are doodles or what, but a lot of the faces seem like the features are just floating around on flesh rather than being stuck on a skull. Other than that great stuff, very imaginative poses and such.

    <whistles innocently> who me?

Yeah, I'm not so hot on the old noggins generally. Any good tips? I spose I should eat my own advice and dig out the loomis for a read thru and a few more hundred pages of studies, eh?

I might just do that now..

I must say your creature concepts are your strongest side. Not to repeat everyone else, but you should dig out that Loomis bugger from the deepest places of you harddrive and start working.

You're doing a lot of anatomy and face practice, which is always great, can't really say much else at the mo except try some bigger closeups of areas like the face, joints, etc. Keep it up, the flow is great.

Someone said Loomis Have you got 'drawing the head and hands'? apparently that's a good one, i gotta get around to practicing that one myself (still stuck in the figure drawing book).

okay - well im waiting for my new spex to be made, so my eyes get real sore after a short amount of concentration -

Still, we must suffer for our art right? So I'm going to plow through many head studies in a bid to nail the basics of head-sketchery. I'm gonna post them, though I know they're crap, as it will give me an incentive to improve and keep at it; with hope I will someday be able to look back and see how far I've come and so on. Crit me good you helpful motherlovers!

some digi-doodles as well - much more intuitive to block out the masses with a fat brush for some reason today.

you're a machine with those studies, like the while on black ones there too, the legs/hips on the last figure look a bit wonky, almost like they're rotated too far forward, keep it up though.

Aye, this is my first self-imposed task on the sketchbook board - do lots and lots of studies until I can do the proportional part convincingly without any brain-pain. Then all I got to do is try and make them look real good

I got my new spex today so I will be hammering work out over the weekend with any luck.

Very nice and very simple. I cant see much anatomy problems here.
For the head, maybe it would be better practice to tilt it a few degrees to either derection. That will give you some brainwork to do, then you have to apply a bit of forshortening and perspective.

Nice sketches. I see you are using your blending sticks. They are good to just make some simple shading. The hand on the first sketch looks a bit out of place.
It should have been used for something, placed it on the hip or holding an object.
I really injoy your character concepts, and i must say you have inspired me to make some more of my own.
