    Comic Submission Artwork!!!

    Hi All,

first proper posting of my art here (sits nervously)

This is basically 3 pages of comic art i had to throw together in a rush for a UK competition for comic talent, I only had a couple of weeks to get it done inbetween other artwork things i had to do. So sadly there are some panels that came out terrible or half done - id say the whole thing is about halfway to what i wanted, but anyways, deadline has passed now, time to go and wait for the verdict

anyways, plase crits and comments welcome!

    thanks
Page one, pretty happy with, last panel not best
    Comic Submission Artwork!!!
Bit too much going on on this one, ending up in a couple crappy panels and not good storytelling, damn it!
    Comic Submission Artwork!!!
the most fun page by far to draw and paint!

Im really surprised no one responded to this...

    Nice work

the close up of the face in the first panel looked strange, I think its because of the left eye. It seems to be facing you even though his head is in profile, his eye lids etc need to face the same way as the head with the eye ball doing a side long glance - I hope that makes sense.

The drama of the spider coming through the entrance way is cool.

I love this, it reminds me of Paul Johnson's stuff for Mercy (Vertigo), or the guy who did the cover work for mnemovore.

Often there is no more than a little plaque to reveal that, against all gynecological probability, someone very famous was born halfway up a wall.

keh, love the lighting, a comic that gives out a painterly feel. ^^

i dunno though maybe its just me but i think the character needs more dynamic poses.

i think you need to go back and work on your anatomy some more. the close up on the first page, side profile, is way off with the mouth and face. its a good attempt, but not submission worthy id say. keep practicing. what helps, i hear, ois to develop 5 page quickies every week and get into the habbit of dynamic poses and panel drawing.

    argh

i'm surprised this has been dug up! lol

posted it ages ago and it sank

A mate had said to me, you spent too much time painting and not enough time drawing - which is very true.

I dont think this is really the best of my work, and i agree the anatomy and all that is off. I didnt have much time to do it in, but then thats no excuse!

thanks for the crit so far tho - i'm liking it less and less tho! lol

I don't like how blurry the dude looks, maybe use some harder edged brushes and erase the blur halo he has.

It's just not completely rendered, wich is acceptable since you had the deadline and everything, but whoever said you should spend more time drawing was definetly right. If the base ain't no good, the painting ain't gonsta be no good. If I had to pick a best panel out of them though, it'd have to be the second one on the first page. It's definetly the most fully finished and tightest of the bunch. Besides that I'd just be repeating everything else said here.

Overall, I can tell what's going on. He's moving through this facility cautiosly, only to be rewarded for his caution with a huge face devouring spider. It looks like he may have been fighting a bit before, since the shirt is missing, but no cuts or scratches sorta suggest otherwise. It's certainly not bad, but I might doubt it could win a competition.

currently going to university pursuing my BFA in painting. i take commissions. more stuff:

haha true true.....and in honesty if i tell you time wise where i spent most time, it is in that second panel.

It was annoying cos the competition is over now and i havent been shown what the other entries were like! argh!

Also yes, the initial drawing was a rough tiny doodle that i had done. I didnt play it safe and draw it out first.

I recon if i had had more notice of the comp, drawn it out, and then painted it - i'm sure it would have been better - ahh well, didnt win the comp, but it was as ever good practice! on to the next thing! hehe - Thanks for all the crits btw
