DSG 1026: Sci-Fi: IN SPACE, WORKER BOTS RETRO-FIT STARLINER WITH NEW ENGINES

[ Unable to supply blurb today... ]

[ Just keep in mind that we're seeing something noticeably new affixed to the starliner... might be a bit of a colour or style shift, perhaps. ]

    [ Go to it! ]

i really wanted to focus on the whole "massive ship being repaired in space over the actual robotic drones, so if you look closely you can see the open repair bot bays and the little boogers doing a few things. this is towards the end, where they are roping up the old blown out engine and finishing some welds on the new one

*edit* i just saw "starliner" which imo denotes more of a cruise ship of the skys... but this is a cargo ship, so my bad :/

skethbook pro, 2 hours. i really kinda wanted to color this, but its 12 and im driving to kansas city miss for the Sigur Ros concert!!!

can't wait to see what you guys do!

These are pretty rough but I wanted to see which composition the group thought was stronger.... A. or B.

Maybe even scrap them both and try something else??

would love to hear some thought - hopefully I can clean one up and repost - later today!

Rob-ot -I like sketch B.Maybee bg should be mor like space station. And new engines should be much more advanced, like colision of new and old hardware.
That space ship design in the right corner is really cool.Top notch sketches man.I can hear your brainstorm from Texas to Toronto.
    Legato-love the details

for Kei-th-the red spots are astronauts

    rob-ot really great!
did you do that on paper or on a tablet??

and the left top one reminds me of your entry to the DSG of yesterday with that kind of entrance and the big walking robot

    I think I like A the best

    great sketch style!

EDIT: Goran I just saw yours after posting damm looks very good also very detailed like that!
but the space ship looks a bit small when you see those people around

    Kei-th - thanks!
They were all done on 8.5x11 copy paper using a .05 black pen, double ended sharpie, a green marker, and 40% grey marker - the sky in A & B are photoshop touchs aftere scanning.... Also you are right, the thumbnail in the upper corner was a sketch from yesterday! the left over white space on the page was just begging for ink!!

Goran - thanks for the thoughts!
I agree - it needs more "in space" elements.... I also like the idea of new meets old....

Did I mention how much I love this?? I have some serious deadlines to meet today but I can't stop thinking about skecthing more for this thread!!

goran: yes, I have! Coloured a pencil sketch once with markers once. The result was quite pleasing! :-)
    thanks!
I actually did this on marker paper but it doesn't quite prove to be that good :-/ the ink was smeared by the marker, bah...
and the scan was really bad this time...

Built around the white dwarf Galvan, the space girders are equipped to handle all manner of space craft, and all sorts of work, such as replacment of stardrives as seen here, where a GHI-2.200 Starliner is retrofitted with new TXi-450/2, which may appear similar to the old 450/1s, but include a slew of improvments, allowing them to tun much more effeciently.
painter, 30? with such long topics, something is bound to be forgotten

everybody - awesome stuff again today!!

1.5 hours - ink line drawing with photoshop color.... getting the clouds to look decent took the longest... I've never had to draw clouds from space!

    I learned 2 things today:
1.) how to render clouds from space - splater brush and the liquify tool saved the day!
2.) I really need to save my money and buy a tablet...using a mouse takes way too long!

goran/hideyoshi - I love seeing the marker work! very nice!

    liner

haven't yet worked out what they're refitting - turbo sketch - bit obvious imagery but hey it's late (where i am) and just wanted to get something up. Thoughts on rendering appreciated - how could i make the most of the cliched sun on horizon gag - i know watch the opening of finchers 3

saw robots pic and cried into my idea - thats exactly the kinda look i was thinking of, if only i'd sat down and worked

Vulgar - thanks for the compliment! A stright edge and some photoshop magic works every time!!

Seriously though - its this forum that has me inspired! I have learned so much already by just looking at everybody works!

setmonkey - no worries, I like your sketch! - if i had any crit, it would be - try bumping up the contrast a little! It is very hard to capture the intensity of a sunrise in grey scale...

goran - As always great work, and great style.

hideyoshi - Awesome sketches/markers, I like both designs.. tho the right appears a bit more military than starliner(guess starliner could be military however, just my first thought was like an oceanliner for space).

rob-ot - Great job on doing the first few sketches and then cleaning one of them up, and YES you must get a tablet if you intend to keep doing digital art... it makes things alot easier.

setmonkey - Nice Sketch, I like it.
