Try not to use filters until you can paint what the filter would like anyway.

Other than that keep going... and draw on paper as much as you can.

you can't afford a scanner, but you can afford a Wacom? aren't tablets more expensive than scanners?

Either way, drawing on paper should translate into the digital realm quite easily anyways. You can stand to add more definition and create more space (make it feel like a 3d form) in order to increase the quality of your work.

pretty cool stuff so far te aliens and smoker sp are looking good, just to echo what Tobin said about the filters, they really wind up hurting you in the end. If you need a scanner it's not too hard to find one to borrow, I use one at my school, and many public libaries have them. Keep it up and hope to see more.

Why u don't use ur wacom?O_o That would be a good progress. Try to work with more values and smoother shadings.
But before everything: Learn and understand the figure, train you imagination and learn from reference. Keep practising

cool thanks, didnt think of borrowing one. but then i have to do it like everyday. well maybe i will try to find a cheap one and live on noodles for a month or something.

GunTrouver: i dont use my wacom becouse i just am not comfortable with it. i cant draw with a pen and not watch what im drawing . watching the screen at the same time is difficult. maybe its a learning progress like all things, but it just feels wierd.

the filter thing is true, filters stick out like a sore thumb. they have their place, but you can do without them at this stage, right?

Lemme see some more of your heads, they look decent - i'm going to be doing pages of heads soon as practise, it's a good excercise if u want to give it a bash. try and find the loomis books, they are ace for anatomy reference, and have a nice head construction which is good fun to try out.

    see you on here tomorrow!

looking good, a few tips that may help you out:

avoid burn and dodge (adding black for shadows and white for higlights) when shading, instead use the desaturated shade of the color or a desatured compliment will give it a much more natrual look.

check the cast shadow too, it looks like its going in the wrong direction from the light source.
