Beautiful piece. Am I correct in assuming it's either John the Apostle or the John that penned Revelations on the Island of Patmos?

I believe both Johns are one and the same?

I like the painting Dave, but I think some of the warm lights are getting muddied on the robe and hand and the soft edge/hard edge throughout the piece needs some work. Nice to see John was a lefty though.

I had always believed that too, however there's been some contraversy over the past few years as to whether or not they were. I still hold them as being the same person.

DOH, sorry to hijack, I still love this piece.

Oooooh, one crit though, Aramaic was written from right to left just like Hebrew.

I think the anatomy of the hands needs a little bit of work like Dutton sort of mentioned. They seem a little small too. I love the lighting and the feel of the piece, though. Really well done!

Thanks for the feed back everyone. It is John the Apostle. He is part of a series I'm doing for my BFA thesis at CIA. I see what you mean about some things being muddled, I'll make the changes.

Nice piece. I really like the guy's forhead and the night sky.
My only gripes are with his right hand. It does not look relaxed. And this scene is very relaxing. Maybe try taking a pic with some candles in a dark room to see how the light reacts on cloth, wall, etc..
    Good luck with the thesis!
