Red face my sketchbook( #3): a little come back

me- heh.... im in a foggy, dark place... where I am?

God of CA- You are in the ConceptArt forum. why dont you post some of your work here son?...

well, hi ! I am Mathieu Bélanger, 15 years old from Sept-Iles, Québec in canada ( im french, but I speak well english, I think ). Like some here, i draw for fun. all started at elementary school, i was drawing little things, not very great, but I was proud of myself. then I leaved my pencil, and took music for about 4 years now. in secondary 3, I was drawing again, some were realy good, other were just like...well...... bha anyway, I stop it and wrote some story for a friend. for 2 or 3 months ago, I meet a great guy. he's just too cool and he shown us he's drawings. that was just like ''BAM!'' and I had to draw aigain, but I had to improve them, push my talent to the max .

I took my pencil ( most of the time, ordinary HB pencils... ) for 3 or 4 months now and worked seriously for 2 months now. I was screaching for some gestures work, and found this gold mine . I seen many things here, very great things and I learn more here in a week than I made alone in 2 moths.

Well, after a very long introduction, I start my own sketchbook ! I'll update it as many times as possible. some times i write some notes in english or french. i will translate them if needed.

    Now the work ! :

I made that last week i think, very fresh. as you see on the sexy guy, i need to learn alot from anatomy ( his neck is ). i have to make my lines better and work on proportions.

im sleepy . im going in my welcoming bed. i will update later tomorrow if I have the time. good night all

hey, Ceci parait bon (sorry for my poor french, i take it in school ) I would work on anatomy. I suggest buying a book on this. Andrew Loomis is excellent. Look into getting one of his books. Good luck and keep drawing.

my science theacher ( hello hélène ) found me an anatomy book, better than nothing. but for now i have so much homeworks .

    have a good day

    some work....:
    (yesterday)

    and tonight:

I made some torso , alot of cubes and balls. I made thes in an hour, mabe two. it's probably why my head hurt so mutch .

If any body can give me tips or say me what things i have to improve ( event if I have a lot ), just post it. I know my drawings are not the best ( realy far of it ), and it is why I made a sketchbook: have opinions for improvement but actualy, I dont see what I have to improve, excluding anatomy.

    good night.

I have been realy sick for the last few days so I did'nt draw a lot.

I dont know what to think of my drawings now. they dont have the magic touch anymore. I'm getting nowhere whit this. I should find my way soon, or I will shoot myself

well, I'll be back in shcool in 2 days. maybe my pencil will give me some good things in a boring class.

I made my drawings more precisely and with more attention. I think it is why they looked so lifeless. I put more than a minute on a thing befor changing my mind and criticise it. I still do it very fast, but now I see why I draw.

as I look at my old drawings, I see all what I've done so far. the improvement I've made is amazing. I hope I'll make more

Hi there! Nice work so far, looks like you're working pretty hard. Keep going with anatomy and try and use references while you're still getting the hang of the human body and face.

    Dear Smat-Math,

You are drawing lots.. wow.. that's great. ^^

I think your drawings are a bit stiff though.. I think a good excercise for you would be to watch someone doing something (anything you can think of that is movement but they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.. like someone pacing back and forth while thinking.. someone in your house cooking something... or someone sitting on a bus or in a car reading, or a baby in it's play pen moving around but staying in one stationary place... or that one guy in class (or teacher) you see every day who cant keep fiddling with his pen or his wrist watch or biting his nails... whatever...) and try to capture them as they move... fast sketching.. loosen up.. and then after a few hours of watching people.. pick up a book on Henna designs or some simple tattoo designs and try to draw those instead for hte next couple of hours. Then meditate on the differences. Notice the difference between reality (3-D) and design (2-D). You seem to be floating somewhere inbetween right now.. Most of all your stuff (with the exception of the raven) is looking flat.... once you master how to seperate them and do both individually... your gonna move up a level in skill, cause you'll see why art is so fun and once it's fun you get lost in it more and a piece of you goes in the drawings.... Your drawings will come to "life" more by the breath of your soul.

Orry dude, i don't mean to be an asshole here, but you really ought to stick to the basics for now. Get yourself some Loomis studies from www.fineart.sk (or other source) and get cracking. The only reason i'm writing this is that you show potential and i think this is the best route for advancing your art. The best teacher is life itsef. Sorry if i come off as condecending that's not the case, i think you have potential, keep at it

If you see wrong things or want to make a comment, by god, do it ! even if it is a apocalyptic-demolition-type critics ( well of course, if you can avoid them... ), please say it

Well, this is a great day for me: my first own sketchbook is complet ! I dont know what to say. as I look at all the drawings I made, I realize than all the emotions I had are immortalized in the grey lines of the pencil

every time I used a pencil for art, I made improvements.

I also learn anatomy and I know more my body ( and I never used so mutch my boilogy notes from last year )

I'ts never been easy. I'm still learning new things ( thanks for the link Inkfish ) and I have so much to discover. at the start of all that, I'd never thought it would be so hard to draw simple lines ( )

    from early january 2006...

    to now, 13 march 2006...

    have a good day

so here it is: the first real sketchbook with liquid-papered front. for this one I hope I will make improvements on 3-D and gestures; I'll have 75 sheets for that.
