I whole-heartedly agree! I've got school fulltime, Scholarship presentation comin' up, freelance work, and Life. So I'm not able to take part in anything half-assed. So yeah, portfolio worthy topics are a must-have.

if you'll do us the honor of creating a list of five 'portfolio worthy' topics then i will go and create a new poll.
that is, if no one has any concern over this.
truly want nut-bustin' entries that you can be proud of....
    everyone cool on this?
if you don't like phuzion's topics, then kill him. kill him alot.
    cheers!

Seattle has a full compliment (15 entrants with Tinfoil as number 15). All other Seattle entrants will be 'in the queue' in case some numb nutt drops out of the Tdome.
SoCal - you have 3 spaces left.
    Go find some peeps.

i've gotta step out and get back to work.
i'll check back in around 4:45 and see what's been decided.

I think you can take any topic and make it portfolio worthy.

Except maybe giant cocks and titties flopping on dead babies...

    - A Boy & His "Dog"
(A boy and his dog, a boy and his giant mech, etc. Put them in a scene or treat it as a character design)

    - The Possessed Princess
(Was once good/pure, is now evil/tainted. Tits don't get you an A+ on this one, unless it fits well into your story)

    - David & Goliath (sorry Mike )
Think biiiig! Push the scale, but somehow convey David's superiority, Benoit Springer style:

    - A Long Journey Begins (adventurers, knights, mechs, tanks, whatever!!)
(Think scene-set-up, believable action, aka STORY STORY STORY!!. Characters interacting is one of the most sorely lacking items/skills in portfolios.)

    - The Forgotten Ones
    (Ancient, medieval, tribal, post-appocalyptic, etc.)

These are, of course, open-genre. Creating a sense of action is not easy, but is one of our primary goals as illustrators/designers. Throwing a character up on a blank background is not good enough, except for a turn-around... and those are boring and technical. If you do a character design, at least hint at their world in the background, even if it's only abstract. If they come from the jungle, hint at some trees... if they're urban... well:

You get the idea. Whichever topic is chosen, do a character design, or a full illustration, but give them a home, a world, a history, some hint of what their environment is, otherwise... well you're just a chump

Yeah, that's my professional input. I leave the originality of design to the rest of you. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!!

    Peace
    -Daniel

I love those options a lot more. We could use that array and every pair picks one from that pool.

Stokes - my bad! I have you in the mix now.
Trevor - I failed to see Stokes in the list early on, so now the total number of entrants is 16. Hope that's okay.
    Cheers,
