I feel so gutted Poshspice didn't complete.

Juggled with Masque, Romance or SimonL....went with SimonL because his fat dude is simply disgusting enough LOL.

Went with Newman. It's just too real not too.

I'm kind of disappointed with this weeks turnout, guess not too many people liked the subject or they were too busy... POSH!

Hopefully we'll have more next CHOW.

There is something about chuck mate's work that grabs me! Compo is decent, but what I really like is the pose of the character, I really am drawn to what he is doing, and that is what really gives the piece, its greatness!

voted simonl cos it literally made me do a double take, and i think i threw up in my mouth a little...in a good way!

other than that, i do think that this particular challenge was more limited than some of the others - i know i didnt enter cos i couldnt think of much of a spin from the original brief. So congrats to everyone who gave it a shot!

i went with newman, that one is the most descriptive and portrays the character best. the expression is dead on. simonl was technically great but lacked background character info in the expression. all the rest seemed the same.

might I ask why my entry didn't go to poll? just for future reference so I can fix what ever was not good enough. I know full well it's not a contender, the rest of these are awesome.

I voted Darth Massacre because he summed up in one image pretty much everything the CHoW guidelines for this week were.

Next up to him was simonl, but who really can tell what exactly he was "playing" all day in that image

kingcoyote has my vote for a stylish treatment, good character expansion (the accessories), and strong composition -- not easy to deal with all that junk and not have it visually cluttered & chaotic. the cross-gender avatar as succubus is brilliant, and the 'burns are perfectly bizarre

Darth Masacre - Sorry, but personal stuff got in the way! Cheers though!

Voting this week is very difficult, as everyone has followed the brief spot on. It just has to come down to something as simple as energy for me, so I'm going with Chuck, mate. Great piece with loads of life and character. Spiffing work all round!

I wasn't so good at completing activities this week, but here's an initial sketch I did for this. I thought it oughta see the light of day, at least

Chow 16 - VOTING: 35 Year Old Gamer

Voted for Newman, btw, and I guess this sketch explains why.

was a tough decision. my favs are romance and SimonI.

in the end I voted for SimonI.. that guy is just plain disgusting..and the lube just tops it off. made me think about things I didnt wanna think about (EEEEEEEWWWWW YUCK!! So much for eating breakfast today..). apart from that, the rendering is tight- I just love that pic.

matias, newman, Chuck,Mate, masque, romance: great takes on the topic. didn't expect to see so many diffrent ideas with the tight restrictions this week.

posh: would have loved to see your final- the sketch already was awesome.

kudos to evryone for tackling the topic at all (wich at some points had me near a nervous breakdown).

    cheers,
    Etienne

romance piece is just pure awesomeness. you got skills up to your throat dude.

and though there were some pretty sad-ass nerds this round
(simonl and newman are just few of my fav.),
    matias got my vote.
great drawing and feel. loads of character, and i would have paid to hear the mother in the BG speak.
    only crits might be :
a - i think the rendering could have been tighter , for this style and pallete.
b - i`m not realy sure why is he holding his hands like this...

    that`s about it folks.

10x for the votes and comments ppl.

on to the next round, biatch!

I thought matias hit the description, spot on and with malice....but I also liked newman's take a great deal! Clever use of reflection goes to masque, and clever use of lube, to Simonl.

Newman- It was sweet and real
not so much with the others who while drawn well, were not so human. I thought so many of us decided that this guy was despicable in some way. And I appreciate the sensitivity read into the description.
    c.rocks

ps I'd still kinda like to know why mine didnt go to poll. I can think of a number of reasons..but Id like to know which one it actually was.

Newman got my vote. After working for WotC for 3 years I know the character description from the customer base, and they are all just minor variations from Newmans piece. His picture immediately said "I play AD&D (D20), WoW, and don't know what deodorant, soap, or toothpaste is." and that to me, screams gamer. Well done Newman.

I voted for Newman. While the props (hat and sword) kind of bothered me a little, and I didn't really feel that the drawing followed the brief (I felt that the brief gave details that were specific to the character, and should have been adressed)... He did get the gamer personna dead on. That guy does scream "I'm a gamer, beat me up and steal my lunch money!" All else aside, I was drawn to this picture as an illustration... great work!

    Later.
