    Fischfunk!!!

You call this painting? ... this isn't painting!!!
... this is more like break-dancing with pigment.

I saw the first paintings earlier today and was impressed. Then I saw the Secrets of Dripping Fang covers and was blown away! So far they're my favorites, all that fun shaping, gestures, and color. Don't deprive people of fun art just because you don't see enough of it around here. We respond to good art when we see it.

If your ink work is anything like the borders on those 3 book covers, I definitely want to see it. You'd be doing us a favor. Keep up the goodness!

I demand large detail pics of these 'cause I know we're missing some mad detail. Fantastic color, costuming and facial design.

    Ink it is!

Alrighty, here is some ink! These are interiors from the first two Dripping fang books. I just finished inking the fourth yesterday, and am having so much fun it feels like a crime to get paid to do it!

I pretty much never did inks, out of fear, till just before I started this gig. Basically the inks on my site (Kids books/ B&W) are the first I had ever done. So I still learn new stuff all the time as I fumble my way through it.

The inks are traditional, wish i had the wacom skills to pull them off digitally. All right that is a lie, I am glad i don't have the digi skills to pull them off, cuz if I did my drafting table would never get used! And there is something dangerous about a toothbrush dipped in ink. you know your gonna spatter, but is the spater going to ruin the image?

Yo Casper (a.k.a. Jiffy Jeff Miracola) I didn't know you swam these waters, or I woulda had to join long ago.

BK, Jon, Dan Dos, Irene, I am starting to think y'all were keeping this place a secret from me! Prolly trying to protect me from the time vacuum!

And I know the lovely svelte Jason Felix will pop his head in this thread sooner or later! I saw your book at Tony D's baby. Talk about some groovy B&W! A man of action, that one. And dead sexy in velvet pants.

    Scott
P.S. I am a yankee, but the 'y'all' came from working retail while going to school in Savannah GA. Never lost it fully.

Damn Scott! Those B&Ws are amazing. So awesome to see you doing more of it. I just dig your use of black so much, you know exactly how much detail to show. You work it like you've been doing it your whole life bro! I'm excited to see this stuff in print. You say a few books are out already? I gotta go find those.

Okay, I guess you can keep being so darn good. Great to see you here! And great to see how the Dripping Fang art is turning out. I am, quite frankly, speechless. 'Cause you're 'da Greatness.

Wow, this is some great stuff. I actually like the Dripping Fang stuff more than the more "serious" stuff I think. And the inks are very hot. You said you went to school in Savannah? Did you go to SCAD? I'm about to graduate from there. Not that that fact means a lot but its cool to know someone of your caliber went to the same school as me. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yup I totally went to SCAD. Graduated in 1994 as a painting major, but took about a million comic book classes too. If Pendarvis is there still, say hello! I still get the allum Mag, and wow y'all have alot more now than we did!

    Concept Schtuff

How about some concept stuff! Love doing this kinda work too. Time doesn't allow for the finish of a novel cover, and some drawing can get away from you. But that is one of the great things about it, ya gotta get in there and get out ASAP! Averaging about 6-7 hours per piece (drawing to color finish) for the single fig stuff. Some more some less.

I haven't had a lot of time to do concept work over the last year, but this is the most recent.

As happens too often in this industry, the game never got green lit. But it's been dead long enough I think it should be all right to post.

I know, I know, these are small, but I wanted to get the whole body of work in one JPG!

    Best,
    Scott
