Operation "Valentine". [UPDATE - finished.. i think]

heh. so i lost interest big time on that SP of mine, i promise once i get something like this piece finished ill go back to it (or begin anew). i plan to finish this one, as it is intended as a gift for my girlfriend for valentines day. wanna try painting in greyscale, then laying down the colour afterwards. i also intend to add myself in it. will see how we go for time.

    Looking sweet, mate
A few crits if you dont mind Your head looks a tad too big compared to hers. And next time you see her, check if the distance between her nose and mouth is that big. The rendering is very nice!! I really like the eye.

I think her mouth is too small, and kind of sticks out too much.

Fellah: thanks a lot mate, always a pleasure yeh, i didnt have ref of this composition so it was hard to get the size right. ive shrunk myself a little more, but know that shes quite small in the first place (5ft nothin), so in reality shes up to my shoulder. checked the ref for the space between her nose and mouth, its a little hard to make out as the quality is down (from webcam). using this one cause it was closest i had to the pose i had in mind. itd be kind of sus if when next i see her i measure the distance, tho, as this is a suprise did some slight alterations nonetheless.

Number 6: mm check the ref. in real life she doesnt have much of a top lip, either.

    ------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: wanted to render myself as much as possible before going to bed. heres what i got so far. as for my ref, its non existent as my camera is busted using mirror, a few old photos sort of close to the angle im after, but im pretty happy with the outcome so far. ill probably be done with the greyscale in the next update, then consider some colours perhaps..

ps. anyone else think she looks like an olsen twin? (before they became annorexic and gross..) heh.

    Thats your girl, dude? *hi-five*

This is coming out great, man. It a bit hard to tell from the picture, but I think you're drawing her chin as a bit too..powerful (can't think of a better word.) I think the inward slope from her lower lip to her chin needs to be more pronounced. It looks like its going right from lip to chin.

Also, watch the shape of her nostrils and the shape of the line from her nose to her upper lip. Her jawline might be a little too rounded in your drawing.

This is gonna be a dynamite gift, nice work.

Geophillyx: yah, moved myself a little more and adjusted her smile some more, thanks

Undefeated: haha yeah, she is most certainly my girl made a few slight changes based on what you had to offer. hope it looks in order now

    -------------------------------------------

UPDATE: made a half assed attempt at a colour. first time ive worked with this technique of rendering, so i guess its not as bad as it could be. hope it works for you guys!

looks nice but very gray maybe spice it up a bit with some puples and reds in the shades (skin)
more reds in the nose ears lips

also the girl seems to be looking at his hair .. not his eyes
as for the guy his ear is supposed to be just a little bit lower

but it looks very good already hope u can use my crits

Joey-b: thanks mate. heh, you know you can refer to the guy as me (stoph)and the girl as.. well, my girl good call on the reds and purples.

checked the eyes, i can see how you feel theyre a little high, but i took the liberty to check yet again for you, 2 lines, one running along the surface of the eye, the other at right angles to that line, indicating her gaze. you be the judge..

as for the ear business, my ears are quite small to be honest, and i dont have much of a lobe.. so thats my justification there

ok, lessened the presence of the greys and added some purples, peaches and reds. makes the world of difference

are you gonna throw in anything for the background?

aww 'stoph, you old softie! ; )

I like how you did your hair, looks good. neat style! I wish my boyfriend could pull off interesting hair styles, but he always ends up looking like an idiot. = D

I'd agree w/ Joey-b and throw in some more highlights in her hair, and maybe a more dramatic light source or something...but if you don't want to mess with this anymore, that's understandable. Just remember: Valentine's Day is never over when you have a girlfriend! you must never rest...
