Peace
Wow this is an illustrator's sketchbook.
How does it go for you now? Is it to be an Illustrator a fulltime job? working from home, meeting your deadlines and all that?
Dont mind me asking eh? Just want to know what happens to a guy when he reaches market level skills.
Cheers man
Mario
Nice, kick'n ink work vs kick'n color work, WOOHOO! - both!
brilliant stuffzssz!
Super BA Deadwood pics Mr fisticuffs, sir.
Also, the painting of my dads from a couple of posts ago was full on bitchin'. I printed it out and hung it over my desk at work.
As always, your linework gives me a chub... I always look forward to seeing updates, even though I havent posted in for 'effing ever. I hope everythings well for you.

Hey everybody many thanks for all the comments,
bhanu- Thanks man, I appreciate the crit. Yeah, it seems to be the consensus that I need to broaden my horizons. I'll get to that soon, but for now, more zombie BS...
MattGamer- Yeah man, I dabble in the digital as much as my old ass laptop allows. But being messy is still in my blood, it's too fun! Thanks for poppin in!
entdroid- The zombie walk was indeed a lot of fun. I got a good amount of fun reference from it too. Many thanks for checkin in!
bumskee- Thanks man, the moleskin I'm workin in right now is about 5"x8". Big enough, ya know. I think they actually make them as big as 8"x10". I might be wrong about that.
Zord- Thanks dude, I wish I could get to the Seattle workshop, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to. I know I'll get to one someday though.
Brun- Thanks!
fedezz- Thanks, most anyone from Deadwood is a joy to draw in pen and ink!
tensai- Thanks man, the 2d vs 3d thing is something I've been working against for sometime, thanks for calling it out. Lately I've been doin more flattened out ink stuff, but I still feel the compulsion to render everything out and palette knife the shit out of everything. It's something I keep an eye on but don't have a handle on as to which way I'll go yet, I appreciate you chiming in. And yeah, I need to broaden my horizons as far as subject matter, I'll get to that real soon.
Bojee- Yeah man, I really appreciate the crits too. Isn't Ian McShane the biggest badass in all the land? I'll definitely have to check out Sexy Beast. And yeah, the zombie walk was a lot of fun, I'll get around to working outside my comfort zone here real soon.
pennington- Hey man, really good to hear from ya again. I hadn't seen any of that guy's stuff except for the stuff he did for the Postal Service, thanks for the link!
Skeiff- Hey man, thanks for checkin in. Nah, I never really have a specific palette in mind when I start a piece, but a lot of time it's dictated by whatever wash I put down first over the drawing. Like on this one I put down a warm wash first and a really blazing red for the background so I knew I'd have to go relatively cool with the other colors to balance it out. I'm usually just as surprised as anyone as to how the colors work out. That's the joy of painting ya know!
chrishly- Many thanks, that's a nice compliment.
Papparazzi- Yeah man, I should definitely be down for figure drawing this Friday, I'll give you a call! Thanks for lookin in.
themissinglink- Thanks, color is a real beast!
Reject-D- Word, will do.
j0shu4- Great, glad they're making somebody happy!
marioucci- Thanks man, professional freelance illustration can be a real bitch, in that it's all about being able to market yourself. I get jobs here and there but my work flow is usually directly proportional to how much I'm putting my work out there. Deadlines and work ethic have never been a problem for me, it's just finding interested art directors can be a job unto itself. Thanks for the interest!
fragmentedchimp- Thanks man!
kingcoyote- Great to hear from ya again man. I laughed my ass off when I realized you really do look like the love child of the Mythbusters. That's hilarious. Welcome back KC!
Nothing really substantial to update with, but I did find myself some markers and drew a few portraits. I haven't used a marker in years, I'm surprised they weren't all dried up. I really like the streaks they can give!
And here are some really quick sketches I did from photos I took at the Richmond Zombie Walk. The walk was a fuck-ton of fun, about 200 zombies ended up showing up! Tried to keep all of these really simple and quick,
Pope Zombie was a real crowd pleaser.
Santa Zombie! This guy had an awesome costume.
Dead Mason, this was one of the guys that put it together.
Go to www.zombiewalk.com to see if there's a zombie walk happenin near you, they're a really good time.
Again, thanks to everybody who popped in, it's much appreciated! I'll have something in here besides the same ol BS before too long.
Zomvies are always as pleaseing as hell. Coincidentally i was drawng zombie all day today too...Lovley stuff duder.
Keep em coming

This one's awesome!! I love how you captured the weight of the body, I can even imagine his movements from your drawing.
Surgeon (?) zombie is great too![]()
This is the first time I've dropped in on your sketchbook, and I'm so inspired! Seriously, man. Thanks so much for sharing.![]()
Nice post, though your zombies don't look like zombies. They more look like vampires from 30 Days of Night. The blood is on their mouths like they have drank it, zombies are wild and have limbs missing along with eyeballs hanging out of their heads, faces torn off or burnt, missing fingers, etc. Give them fangs!!
I always love your arts, it inspires me to steal your hands someday when I'm a zombie.
it´s been a long time Andy!
great confidence in ur strokes as always , and i lov eth ezombie walk pieces, i´m a sucker for zombies.
this one is somehow really fascinating to me . http://www.andyparrish.net/SB/Walk2.jpg
really cool stuff and a high faive:9 if i didn´t gave u one before
cheers
Aw man its been way too long since i posted here; Asspat posts arent too useful but i gotta indulge every once in a while.
Kickass work man, what really caught my eye here was the huge variety of style and application experimentation with the zombie walk pieces, that mustve been a kickass sight to see (i missed the toronto one). Each one has a great presence to them, great job man!
Your style is really developing too, your moleskine must be a blast to flip through.
zombies! rad stuff man, that looks like it was lots of fun. Nice job conveying the feeling of all their costumes. you did say they were quickies but it'd be fun to see one that's a lot more finished, really get a feel of what the crowd was like for real.
Nice batch of zombies Andy, love them all, but the one with brick wall in the background (great composition), and the guy with the tie are my favs.![]()

Andy,
I feel extremely lucky to have actually seen one of your sketchbooks in person (I peeked over Tin's shoulder at SOCA a month or so back) and it was actually that sketchbook that made me talk to Sterling and send in my application for the Illustration Academy next summer. So yeah - your stuff is super inspiring and sometime I'll come talk to you in person.
Best,
J
Hi there, are you alive still?![]()

I couldn't help but smile at your sketches, since I saw so much Richmond life influenced in it. I envy your clean pen strokes that show no fear for mistake, hahaha, I hope one day I can handle a pen like you good sir. Keep up the good art can't wait to see more. (even if the last post was in 2008 )
