some more life drawing. Been going once a week, starting to feel more comfortable but the progress is slow. At least I've been meeting up with oooDave00 and Romance there so it's a bit more social than when you don't know anyone.

Hey man, things are looking really good!
I'm really envying you for all the model time it seems that you've been able to have. I definately am seeing in improvement as you move through the sketchbook...
The drawings from that double model session are really great. I love the depth that you pulled off in those. you definately feel the models sitting in their space.
I dont know if I have any crits for you besides just keep doing what you're doing! Progress is slow for anyone, but it will always be made through perserverance.

    Hey Dave, thanks.
I think there's some improvment. Just I want it now! (jk, kind of)
I'm not even going to post my life drawings from this week, pretty unimpressed with last nights session. oh well, it all adds to the progress.
So I don't post without art though, here's a watercolour sketch from last year that I was happy with.

I can see some definite improvement, keep it up. I'll have to see about model sessions when I'm a bit older, but for now household objects and things should do =D.

and household objects and things is what I should be doing more of myself.
As for models, the mirror and clothed people around you work well too

Went to a local Japanese garden yesterday and did a couple quick sketches. I drew them while standing, yet another skill I geuss needs some practice, besides the other more obvious ones.

Well I need to start doing more studies so I banged these out in a couple minutes last night. Now I now that doing even a simple bargue thing fast kind of defeats the purpose but I'm hoping I will pick up a few things along the way. Maybe I will start a longer one more properly later this week.

Nice studies, although your scanner doesn't seem to be picking up much. The pencil is quite faint.

    Great paintings too!

Thanks Listing, "produce more" is the goal.

OK, I've been reading r Schmids book and am starting to do the colour studies. Heres the first one, done with a palette knife as suggested. Mixing on a wood palette and putting it down on a white surface screws you up more than I would have thought. Definately something to keep in mind as I had a hard enough time getting the values as it was. Next is the start of an oil painting I'm doing of my nephew. It was for my sisters B'day but that was a few weeks ago. I have tried to simplify the background but I'm not sure its working too well right now. (I used a partial tracing for the figure, my rationale being I probably wouldn't ever get it done in time without. Didn't work )
Last is a quick sketch of an old church belltower (separate building in this case from the church).
    Thanks for looking

Well I have been going to life drawing sessions every Wed night but last night was it for a while. I'm starting up a class (art) that night for the next 10 weeks. So here's your last to put up with for a while.
I promise when I hit page two of this thread to put in axe wielding barbarians and naked chicks so you'll be more likely to comment

    Craig,

Some very good life drawing studies you have. Going to the classes is definately the right track.

    Looking forward to more.

I really like your color studies. How do you like figure drawing? We're supposed to be starting in my studio class soon and I can't wait.

Ack no way, you're actually making those color charts from alla prima? Well, is it working - you learning anything? How you liking the rest of the book? Let me answer that, you love it. Right?

    Oregano- thanks Shane

Purplerose- thank you. I love figure drawing about as much as I hate it. It all depends on the day. But its all good and it's one of the best ways to get good.

Idiot Apathy- lol, yes I'm actually doing them, three down and nine to go. Their a pain in the ass but I am definately learning some things. I do love the rest of the book, lots of good stuff and I'm blown away by his paintings like I haven't been for a while.
