    Cthulhu functional art? Xposted

I posted this in sculpture forum, but since it fits here I thought I'd post it here as well. In my neverending quest to make art that is both functional and decorative... err... anyway, I present my latest creation, the Cthulhu incense burner. It doubles as a wall hanging sculpture. At any rate, I'm still trying different finishes, but I rather like the black and the antique finishes. I'm currently selling them in my eBay store (click images to be taken there).

I've also got a new Cthulhu chess set up for auction with no reserve this time.
And in keeping with the theme I'm also undertaking a new painting of the eldrich being, which I'll be sure to post in here when it's completed.

There's something a little disturbing about a Cthulhu incense burner. Sort of along the lines of worshipping him...

I was relieved to hear it was an incense burner, at first glance it looked like a sacrificial knife.

Hrm, then I take it you guys would probably not be interested in the Cthulhu priest robes and sacrificial altar I'm making...

Actually I made this at the reuest of a friend who wanted one for gaming, sort of a prop if you will. I personally like it better as a wall hanging myself.

I thought it was a letter opener at first...

Definitly great! The colors also. Your friend must worship you, now he has this great incense burner for r-playing.

i second the sacrificial knife comment haha. looks real awesome though

cthulu--im not familiar with the myth; which is real damn sad considering a good portion of art on this site is dedicated to it/him/her/thing. could anyone fill me in or point me to a reference?

You might want to check out H.P. Lovecraft, he is the author who created the cthulhu mythos. Some of the books are very good.

HAhahhaha! That would have truly been something.

This is a fantastic piece. I would love to have one of these in my house. Knife or otherwise!

Haha, my thoughts exactly, and when I read it was art intended to be decorative and functional, I was a little worried. Great piece though. Personally, I like the first finish the best. It fits the organic look of your work without looking too morbid. The last one definitely reminds me of Giger.

i think i had commented on a previous thread of yours, which desplayed the chess set peices? remarkable work here, in a good representation of the old one. I am particularly fond of the chess peices, finding their detail simply marvelous.truley good work. thanks for sharing.
