hey dude... would like to know how did u fix it? i'm having the same prob too... couldnt even find that file 'painter.set' in my folder.. thanks in advance...!!
Hi,
You guys really need to, at the very least, say what Painter version you're using when asking questions.. every time you ask a Painter related question.
A one-word misspelled topic title...
...doesn't do the trick.Eror
All I can be sure of with the little information you provided is that your Painter.SET file (Windows) or Painter Setitngs file (Mac) has become corrupted and needs to be replaced with a new file.
The procedure to replace the corrupted file is different for each Painter version.
Also, when you've posted a question, be courteous enough to realize someone has, often many people have, taken time to read it. If you solve the problem, have the courtesy to say more than...
Take the time others took for you and let them know what the solution was. There will be others who can benifit from what you learned.NM i fixed it. =)
reksgwee,
Only because you said that you can't find the Painter.SET file do I have a clue what Painter version you're using, and even then I'll only be guessing.
On that basis, I'll guess you're using Painter IX.
If that's the case, you'll need to back up your Painter IX User folder so after you replace the corrupted file, you can restore your custom preferences, custom settings, custom brush variants, and extra brushes added from the Painter IX CD or from third party Painter book CD's.
You'll understand why this will need to be done after reading through the instructions below.
Because Painter IX provides multi-user support, files are stored in two places:
- The Painter IX application/program folder
- The Painter IX User folder
The Painter IX application/program folder is read only.
User preferences, user settings, and custom items are written to and stored in the Painter IX User folder.
Your Painter IX User folder is located here:
Mac - /Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/Corel/Painter IX/
Windows - Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Corel\Painter IX
Your Painter IX application/program folder is located here:
Mac - Applications > Corel Painter IX
Windows - Program Files > Corel > Corel Painter IX
- Close Painter.
- Create a new folder somewhere outside of both the current Painter IX User folder and the Painter IX application/program folder.
- Copy the Painter IX User folder and paste it into the new folder you just created.
To repair the corrupted Painter.SET file (Windows) or the corrupted Painter Settings file (Mac), hold down the Shift key while launching Painter IX and the program will be restored to its installed state.
That means any custom preferences, custom settings, custom brushes, or extra brushes from the Painter IX CD or from third party book CD's will need to be restored to the new Painter IX User folder, from your back up copy of the original User folder.
Good luck!
