I was trying some shading/lighting with grey scale. Ughhh this is going to be a long process to learn it all. I'm looking forward to the journey though

technically he's not a vampire... his name is Maxwell and he does bite people so is often mistaken for a vampire by the people of the north village

this is my first dsg, I couldn't upload till now though,
it took me 25mins with a ballpoint.

colouring just made it look a lot worse.

anyone know a way of keeping the detail after scanning?

my explanation for the chick's head is rigormortis.

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19: 15,16

    Hi Simbad

Your question can be taken a couple different ways, but hopefully what I have to say can help in resolving your issue:

Everyone has their own way, but generally I scan as if I plan to print my work and that's general 250 to 300 dpi at original size. Lately, since I been posting at DSG and have no intentions of printing, I've lowered it to 150dpi (or ppi) and then when I'm finished with the work, I downsize it to 72 dpi, which is the standard for web images.

Concerning color, a popular method is to import your line art onto its own layer in PS and set the layer setting to Multiply. This omits all the white from your sketch, leaving behind just the line art. With that in mind, you can create subsequent layers underneath the "Multiply" layer and paint in color and value.

This is long, but I hope it helps.
