Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
hey guys, ive been putting up with this for awhile
and thought maybe there a way around this
When I create a New Layer, its layer blend is on Default
but when i start sketching on that layer it switches to gel,
i then have to switch it back to default and conitnue.
Why is this happening?
If I remember correctly, brushes that use the buildup method will do this. Avoid these brushes if this bothers you.
that was exactly the problem
you can manually change the blend mode of the layer. The problem is that build-up brushes utilize the gel blend-mode. If you don't want to have a gel layer, you can't use build-up brushes the way they are meant to be used.
I like Rob's pencil. it works for me, and isn't build-up.
I used to do this on purpose when I was still using Painter classic (because It wouldn't let you choose layer types). The way around this is to start working in the new layer with a different type of brush like Oil before switching to pencil -- should remain a standard/default layer -- or just change it back to the layer type you want.
Another way to avoid having the Layer change to Composite Method Gel when using brush variants that use Method: Buildup is to change the brush variant to use Method: Cover.
That, of course, may change the look of your brushstrokes but it's worth a try.
Or.. just use brush variants with Method: Buildup on the Canvas.
