    it's official... *** ART OUT LOUD 2006 *** with UPDATE 3.03.06

    hey guys!

last year's Art Out Loud raised over $5000 for the Society of Illustrator's student scholarship fund. (thanks to MANY of you!)
that money will be awarded at this year's competition,
making it one of the largest scholarships to be awarded.
who knows, maybe one of you guys will win it!

    anyways,
due to the great success of last year's event,
we've decided to do it again...
    except BIGGER,
    and BETTER!

    here's the skinny:
    SATURDAY, APRIL 8TH, 2006
    6 DEMOS, ONE ROOM !

    JON FOSTER,
    ADAM REX,
    DAN DOS SANTOS,
    GREG MANCHESS,
    JULIE BELL,
    and
    BORIS VALLEJO !

unlike last year, where all participant painted collaboratively,
this will be 6 seperate, but simultaneous, demos.
you will be able to walk around the room,
and watch everyone execute a painting, using their own methods.
this means you will see the way Jon Foster starts (and finishes) a painting, the same way he does in his studio.

this event will take place in the same venue:
    The Society of Illustrators, NYC
    12:00 pm to 4:00pm.
    space will be limited!
so tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

now, for the extra cool part:
all of the participating artists, plus half a dozen other AMAZING artists, have taken the time to produce a miniature sci-fi/fantasy painting.
all of the miniature paintings will be on display at the Society during the demo.
ALL of the paintings will be available for sale!
bids will start quite low (around $50) so the likelyhood of you being able to own one is pretty good!
the paintings will be sold via E-Bay, so even if you cant come to the demo, you can still get one.

and now the extra, extra cool part:
every cent of those sales will be put toward ANOTHER scholarship for a student!

"how much will all this cost me", you say?
    :drum roll:
    $20!
    yup,
    $20 for all students,
    $25 for non-students.

i'm really looking forward to seeing a lot of you there!
we'll have more info for you soon.

Looking at those 6 names alone tells me this would be one brilliant event. I'd love to go and since its in April we'll see how it goes.

You'd make a good carny barker, Dan. One correction though, AOL 1 brought in nearly $7,000.00!
Here's a peak at ART OUT LOUD 1. I may have said this before but, I think one of my favorite moments was hearing Justin say that NC Wyeth was a big influence...while Justin was painting about 6 inches in front of an NC.

You can pay the Society directly. (Not me, though, I'll loose it!) I will have tickets for them to hand out or mail tomorrow.
