Dougbots LMS T-Dome's
Since I'm going up against Chuck Norris (and we all know he's invincible), I decided to post these in here. These have been pretty fun. The one with Gribbit was way to close to a Dermot Power piece, so I abandoned it. I haven't spent the time on these that I should have, maybe 3 to 5 hours on each (5 might be stretching itÖ). Thatís not me bragging, itís me being a lazy ass. If I make next round (which I doubt) I promise to spend more time on it. Enjoy.
This is the unused peice, it still wasn't finished. Next to it is Dermot Powers pic. I truly didn't mean to rip it off, but did. Luckily I caught it in time.

These are scrum-diddle yo.

Doug these are really looking good! You really seem to be improving and refining your technique and I'm liking your color choices and subject matter.
A couple minor crits - On the floating demon guy you might want to try thinning out the crowd directly under him. it feels like those people would be getting a pretty bad view if you know what I mean.
The 2nd pic on first read looks to me like the bomb is attached to the structure on the left and she is hanging off of it. Could you reduce the overlap of the two objects to help seperate them - or maybe change up their values a little more? The purple rim light in this one looks great by the way.
Nice to see new stuff from you!

You may want critiques but I just have to say that the Nightmare Factory and the one with the train robot are like, two of the coolest paintings I've seen in a long time. Very inspirational- thanks for sharing!

these are all good, but the nightmare factory is especially sweet. great composition and sense of depth on it.

Loved seeing every piece as they came through my inbox, man... I personally liked the second piece the most, it was a difficult and somewhat limiting topic and you came through with some douggie 5 genius.

Very nice. I like how versatile style-wise you are.

Wow, I'm sort of dumbfounded with the responses. thanks to all of you for the comments and crits. I tend to hate whatever I draw about half an hour after it's finished, so it's nice to get a few pats on the back. I have some lofty goals art wise this year, so hopefully I'll produce some higher quality works.
James Kei-Thanks man, I appreciate it.
Mandryk-Hey thanks for the crits, I totally agree with both of them. I should do a peice with the demons underneath that guy all cringing We should get the ol' e-mail thread running again. Thanks again.
kian3001-Thanks, I actually consider the time frame a bad thing. I need to learn patience, to really focus on a piece and not get bored. It's time for me to grow up.
robinchyo-Thanks, that peice went through lots of changes. Originally it was a space peice, an old clunky rbobt fighting these alien controlled robots in a space junkyard (and the kid of course), but my little girl loves trains, so it changed.
Kent Caldwell-Hey man thanks. I was pretty happy with those. The factory was fun because I had not done traditional art in a long time. I really need to fix that type though.
Gezstar-Cool man thanks. The factory was done using three different pictures I drew using the Carlos Huante method, then put together. I was pretty happy with it. It was tough to blud out the pencil lines because I was so attached to them.
viag-Wow, thanks man. Seems like the factory was well recieved.
steak-tron-I appreciate it. Thanks, oh and did you really fart in my chair...if you did, I shall never wash it again!!!
nicolas-Thanks, man so many great artist commenting on my stuff, it makes my tummy feel funny. And Chuck Norris is so all that
p4b10-Hey man, to be honest I really, really think you beat me that round. I looked at it with my art director and we both went, "and...you/I (me) lost." I'm super glad someone backed out, because you deserve to be there more than me. I actually contemplated backing out so you could go on. Your last peice was awesome.
andreasrocha-Thanks, I actually kind of liked that peice.
vigostar-Thanks, I might actually sit down with that one, at the very least fix that ugly type.
pogonip-Thanks, I'm not sure which is the cgtalk peice. Unless did I post one on there after the TD? I honestly can't remember. Crap, I'm now a forum ....
Joey-b-Gracias, I've been trying with color more and more, I'm still not very comfortable with it. Someday though, someday.
strych9ine-Thanks man, and a big thanks for hosting this whole event. That one was a blast to do. The Octo King had no less than 5 different things in his hand. The second best was the barracuda spear.
egerie-Thanks, that something i've grappled with since I was in art school. I think I could be a better artist if I found my own thing and focused on it, but I find it boring. I'm so influenced by so many others (hence the Dermot Power rip off peice).
Hopefully in time my stuff will get better. I feel like I have not grown at all in the past several years, but looking back at older stuff has forced me to realize...it's a little better.
