Hmm, this one will require some thought.
It's when you can't hear the bats, that's when the bats are coming.

I've been absent far too long, I wanna join in again. I take it, the animal, can either be a farmer type creature (like the ants that grow their own moulds) or a creature that has it's food growing out of it's body?

LOL shadoman so true
however, i might have time for this

There's actually a species of jellyfish that grows it's own food on it's back - a type of algea, if I recall corectly...

im being completely honest and not silly, but the title says a creature that grows its own food source, im assuming you mean from its body, correct? or can it be like a gardening newt, etc?
January 16th, 2006 #16
Open to interpretation I'd say. Lets you use your imagination.
I'm going for a ficus aurea (strangler fig) type symbiosis, though with a faster moving metabolism so that the plant-like creature can move around the earth that its host lives in so as to cultivate/feed it...

wasn't there already a shiteater week? this is an interesting topic, im thinking maybe a swarm species that eats itself but multiplies so fast that it grows. oh ya and it functions as a collective... or does that not sound good?

It might be interesting for you what I have heard today in biology-lectures (sorry for my English):
There are crustaceans who feed by filtering the water for small algae. When they grow they become too big to eat the small algae. So then they produce some offspring that eats the algae. And when the offspring is fulled up they get eaten by their mother.
I think in some way this fits to the topic.
I would love to take part in this competition, but I had to give back my lend wacom-tablet.

Ah, hmm; didn't think you'd take the topic suggestion so literally. It was more of a suggestion for suggestions. It works though, too bad about the shit-eater though, hadn't thought about that.
When I suggested the topic I was thinking more about designing the creature around it's enviroment instead of simply the creature itself.
Maybe like how plants create food with sunlight. Where does this creature live, why can't it eat other plants or animals? Maybe it doesn't even have a mouth; teeth or stomach? So what then replaces this functional element? Is it's process for creating food all internal or does it have to process it's food and then ingest it again? Perhaps like cows?
So, does the creature create it's food via sunlight? Does it ingest certain minerals or chemicals in order to create nourishment? Is it a parasitical/symbotic creature?
I dunno, just thought a topic with a little more thought behind the why instead of the aesthetics alone would be nice, thanks for picking it.

When God created the Ouroborosite to clean up the debris of time and space, He had no idea that the harmless creatures would rather eat everything in their paths. God's solution—the Ouroborosite would complete the circle and devour itself, for infinity (∞). The pain of hunger and ingestion is unbearable, but God, being cruel and just, gave the Ouroborosite arms to squeeze its tail good and tight, thereby robbing it of feeling while it force feeds in hopes of sating the undeniable hunger.
