The highlighted side has a nice round shape, but the shadow side isn't

that's because shadows have soft edges and don't overlap. You can see this better here:

But I agree, where the shadow meet the midtone, there should be more blending.

It looks good man. If you squint it looks real good. Like you could eat it. You ever painted with oils or some other traditional media?

here's a vampire related to dracula.
Master 25 Days: 7 times down 8 times up.

I should have paid more attention to the structures. might redo it but I think I'll just start over fresh. Doing this made me realize there are a lot of things I don't know so I think I'm just gonna take it easy on the colored illustrations and stick to anatomy and basic paintings in painting class for now.

Do you have a clear design of the clothing befor you start painting it? It looks kinda messy as if you didn't know for sure what you wanted to paint. For a speedpainting its good though.

that's because I'm trying not to see details. That's a downfall of successful painting. Details are to be add last.

Guys chill. Keep it light. Painting looks good 25, put some more time in it and I think you could pull out something real nice. I know the feeling you're talking about tho, realizing how much you don't know. I get it daily... But the only way to learn in this biz is by doing so I say take it as far as you can by yourself then stick in the CC and hope DS stops by

double true on the dirty-c's 3 rules obx. thx for the link. I had a talk with my friend about this too and he told me overachieving is a good way to learn. Now that I've gotten over my dissatisfaction with the vampire piece I can see where he is coming from. Part of rhe reasons why I wasn't satisfied was because of a perspective that I didn't have that is mentioned in dirty-c's rules: I'm here to make good paintings later, not now. So I really appreciate that read.

i also think we're kind of getting out of schedule with posting and commenting. What say we start bugging each other every other day if someone hasn't posted new art or hasn't left comments in another member's SB.

Another speedpaint (if you count an hour as speed). I think I ruined it toward the end. I'll post the movie later so you guys can see my weakness hehe.

good thoughts, i like reading those rules, gets me pumped up. they are also easy to apply in other circumstances, but i dont think u get the same effect... lol. yah we should be pressureing more, but not too much, the one thing i think is that wen ppl look at a persons sb, they wanna see art right? well if we were to comment and crit like crazy we would fill eachother sketchbooks up with writing, and less drawing. so mabey a good idea, would be to exchange our aim or msn screen names. this way we could be able to hassel eachother outside of the forum or sumthin. rather than fill eachothers sbs with useless hassel posts. in no way am i saying u shouldnt leave comments or crits. hell i live off them, sometimes they are the only reason i draw.

aside from all this im super glad im in the sketchgroup, i seems that we have almost everyone active, and updateing atleast twice a week. and since i live in an area were there arent many ppl interested in the kind of art i am interested in, this also give me a place to meet and commune with other artist with the same interest. its great, im feel like im getting pushed, hell i never used to draw for 2-3 hours a day. now on the occassion i do. also, must remember that we all have a life off the internet, and if a person doesnt post on that given day, theyre may or propably is a good reason, benifit of the doubt.

now that ive finished dumping a huge post in 25s sb, ill comment on ur vampire. first crit, how do i know its a vampire, if ive never read ur brief before u posted the picture? just something to think about. other than that elemental flaw, i think the whole drawing kicks ass. even if it took u an hour, it looks like it got sneezed onto the fing paper. a color full sneeze of imagination. llllove it man, i wouldnt mind to see more in that style. that calligraphic brush is intense. and i like the stokes.
