rendering is sweet gots that wes9000 feel to it
wow, good stuff lung. i heard you talkin about you were gunna make a daily sketchbook, just didnt know when. im really impressed. My favorite ones are the monster page and the car studies next to it. I like when people show pages like that. kinda shows what they went through tryin to learn somethin. reminded me of seb's sketchbook. you should post some of your other study pages.
Just have fun.
Very nice sketches, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to when your site goes active.
Real nice Lung. Now you give me another thread to constantly check!
Is the first post all ref work??.
The last is a obviously concept/personal and is primo.
Keep em coming man.
PS I was just talking with my folks about cruisen through Croatia sometime this year or early next... after I travel around Northern Europe etc.
Have to keep you in mind eh.
wow, really nice stuff.. . i cant believe youre only 17. got any concept stuff for us?
very good drawer.....very good....i like your pics...
thank you all for the nice replies
stephenc: yeh wes most definitely had a tremendeous influence on me
aveh: seb rules. will do
lukias: yeah it's all ref work, trying to work purely from life lately. building up a mental database, mastering the pencil technique and stuff. cruisin thru croatia eh? that would rule!
metalwinds: concepts... sure. i'll post some tomorrow or the day after
the planned diversity went to hell as it rained today and i couldn't go out of the house, so here's some more random junk and old stuffs:

good stuff once again lung. i love that page with the cars and
back studies. Were those first pages ref'd from life or images?
Just have fun.
damn, you have some amazing things going on man. i have one question, in croatia do u get to work from a nude model in high school. your figures are really strong for being so young
keep it up and hope to see more
aveh: the mechanics page was from Prometheus' photo, and the second one was doodling for warmup
metaphysiks: actually we have no art classes in high school whatsoever. we had four semesters of art history and that's about it. i'd kill for a life drawing class
and some photoshop stuff
all from mind today, btw

great sketch dump!
Gotta save'm all!!
I'm sooo MCMLXXXVIII.
Great to see some studies, I'm (well was 10 days ago and will soon) really getting into the study stuff myself. Funny for the amount of ref work I've done I'm starting to wonder how much of it I have been retaining and how much I'm simply copying... if you catch my drift.
The non ref'd pieces are primo man, seems to me you retain the info pretty damn well!.
Keep em coming hot shot!
hey man its pretty incredible to have no life drawing and be pretty good with the figure. keep up the work. i was wondering if you could give me a crash course on coloting sketches in photoshop, im having a lot of trouble, maybe run through your process, can be just text.
I'd like to think this might inspire me to make my sketchbook more like this... I don't do nearly enough study work there (although I can calm myself down by telling myself I am in regular lifedrawing classes).
Thx d00d keep it up, don't let us get lazy!

jester, morphine, nimrod- thanks
lukias: that's why i'd like to go to a life drawing class... i have a feeling it sticks better that way
metaphysiks: sure thing, i'll post some in a couple of days, maybe tomorrow even
today i slept in late, then a friend came and i had no time to draw at all :bash: . we saw some dvd's (attack of the clones, enemy at the gates, shiri), so you might recognize some of these in the sketches soon.
here's a little doodle i did at the cafe, 20 minutes ago
lots of stuff tomorrow, i promise

really nice stuff! i likes it ~_~ i've tried alot of these methods all very kewl. keep'em comin bug ^_^
Wow, really slick stuff! That robot on the top is wicked. You're method of just making a cool silhouette is something that I do often... when I can't think of anything else to draw. Do you have anymore suggestions for sketching? Keep posting!
amazing... i love your notes, i get a real sense of the way you think... great work
Damn ! This is good. Thank you for posting.
A fool with a tool is still a fool
damn youre good.. .. you own my balls. .. bastard. yeah, id like to hear how you color sketches in photoshop too, im having trouble as well. really like the color stuff, its as sweet as the rest of your work. i wish i could give you some suggestions.. but i cant think of anything that you dont already know. maybe something will come to me soon. .. maybe
mmmm concepts. .. (drool) .. .. .
thanks peeps. sketch, i'll think a bit and post em in the next update. i have a lot of weird methods
here's a decent update i hope. i felt like doing one so i did a process showing how i make these sketches. pencil and color.
and for the coloring part:
i copy the base sketch to a separate layer and set it to multiply. then i fill in a opaque background depending on a few factors. first, mood. warm vs. cold, everyone can figure that out. then, i think of what colour would i want to make my biomecha. since i chose yellows/greens, i decided to put the complementary color in the bg, to stand out a bit. so i put a bit darker desaturated red. with a bit darker color and a big soft brush i filled in the main shadow areas. also, using the same brush, i threw in a few desaturated spots to make things more interesting.
now i use a textured brush i made to fill in the local colors. on the metal parts i did a lot of color variation (notice how it goes warmer as it turns away from the light). the body also has some green/yellow/orange variation. with a gritty pencil brush i proceed to render out the headgear (pencil brush makes more texture). for the skin i use a soft round brush. i still work mostly in the midtones range of value.
this part is just pushing it forward. i add some brighter highlights. nothing much to say. later, when i'm done i'll optionally use an outline to show the sillhouette of the beast. this can be good, but it can be bad too. it works well in the darker areas that disappear in the background. i chose brighter orange/red to contrast the rather washed out colors i used on the rest.
during the coloring, i'll often convert it to grayscale to check if the values are all right. if the grayscale doesn't look right, colored stuff won't either. the second pic shows a zoomed in headgear. you can notice a lot of different colors, but check the grayscale - there's a quite smooth transition. basically, you can play with saturation and hue, but the value brightness) should be accurate.
a little thing i did in oc last night:
my photoshop 7 brushes (dunno how fresh tho) can be found at http://lungbug.ice.org/stuff/lung_brushes.abr
i have school on monday, so i won't be able to update tomorrow. i'll try to make a nice update on monday tho (and yes, that means more nudity ).
