    Prosthetics and Makeup

Not sure if I'm allowed to post this type of project. Besides drawing, my real passion is makeup and creature FX for film. Here's one such project experimenting with disease. Everything was completely homemade from scratch. Prosthetics and Makeup

Been testing out surplus Soviet biotech stock, have we?

The only crit I have is that the open sore doesn't look too convincing. If it was a fresh sore, then it should be mushy and gooey, and the lip shouldn't be as hard as it is. The center should be white with pus as well. If it is an old wound, then the edge should be drawn inwards and falttened out, since older wounds tend to draw together when they heal.

    Hope that helps.

Looks great, really sick looking, i would tone down the veins a bit though, looks like a latex or gelatine appliance, i quite like the open wound.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I guess this wouldn't really be classified an appliance. It was created using nose putty, liquid Latex and makeup.

Hmm, have some more crits now that I looked at it again actually. Some things to keep in mind.

The right side pics need work for one reason. You've switched the colors on the blisters and the rest of the hand. Blisters of that size, and caused by terrible viral infections, would be filled with pus, and would therefore be taught, bulging and white. The area surrounding them would be redish from the infection, but you've got the opposite right now. Think about what happens when some small cut gets infected. It swells up and gets reddish. No multiply that by one whole hand, and add in giant blisters. Pretty nasty shit.

Also, do lay off the blue. I'm at a loss to explain what would cause your veins to not only become that visible while a huge infection is raging, but to become that color. In the future, try using reddish purples instead, as that would fit in with the infection and would give it that morbid look, but would also make sense.

But overall it's pretty good stuff. Plaster that on your face next Halloween.

Blood poisoning such as gangrene can cause bluish streaking, but it is more blackish blue. The veins of blue here are just too greenish in color I believe. If they were greyish blue and more subtle then they would look fine. I agree about the white pustules and red inflamation, that would look cool. Also, I think the bleeding fingernails are a bit distracting to me, perhaps over the top.
All in all a very nice job- I think this sort of thing is fun to do and you can get quite creative with it. I'm off to read your other post now.

    Great stuff

My only crit is that they look a little to "placed", ie a little too grided, spaced "just so" lined up "just so" takes away from teh realism

Perhaps a cluster of smaller and larger bumps one side, larger lumps and sores along the middle, diversity of sizes etc etc would give it a more realistic feel

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
