DeviantART DOESN'T ALLOW HOTLINKING!!!!!! NEITHER DOES BLOGGER!

OK, I'm going to say this ONE MORE TIME:
Even if you have a deviantart account, you still need to host your pictures somewhere else to post them here, or attach them directly. Deviantart has code on their site that blocks remote linking (hotlinking) of images. You will see your images fine, because they are already in your cashe, but everyone else will get a red X, a blue ?, or nothing at all, and your thread will just fill up with posts saying "I can't see it."

I'm not sure I know what "hotlinking" is... I posted some links to photobucket, because the pics I uploaded to my site here keep dissappearing to show the rooster logo instead. Was that a "forbidden" act?

If so, sorry about it. I thought saving bandwith is kind of a good thing...
    Best, W.

Hotlinking is when you post a link on one site to a picture that is hosted on another site.
Some sites allow this (such as photobucket) while others do not (such as deviantart).
The rooster logo shows up because some new technology is being implemented at conceptart.org right now and there are still some bugs to be worked out.

Hosting your pictures at photobucket is perfectly fine.
Here's some more info about image hosting:

It opens as a forbidden link - for one.

Also, its much easier just to host it on photobucket or imageshack and save us clicking a link to see each picture anyway.

I've noticed people starting to try to link from their Blogger.com pages.
    Sorry folks, same deal.

Since CA now allows all registered users to attach files, there's really no need for remote hosting.

Deviant art has nothing on conceptart.org. I believe people only post there art there for fame not to improve.

I think Deviant Art may have changed it. I have been using it to post my sketches for DSG and those seem to be showing up fine. When I check the thread at work they show up (not in the cache) and people have given feed back on the work, so they seem to have seen it.

I mostly use Photobucket to hotlink, and otherwise you could allways put your drawings on Myspace, [not sure if they allow hotlinking, though], or sort. But Photobucket is very useful.

Indeed, I'm the only member who got his avatar from google, and didn't draw it himself. Oh well.

I think Myspace allows hotlinking(but I'm not sure, I always use photobucket anyway)

but, shouldn't this already be a common knowledge? I mean, DeviantART had explicitly stated that they are not an 'image hosting' service

    You'd think that, wouldn't you?
Anyway, I'll use the resurrection of this thread to emphasize:
There is no need to hotlink from ANYWHERE anymore.
    Please use the attachment feature.

Ca doest even allow linking with the image inside. Hostingthe weekly actiavities still has to be done from an outside source unless you want to reupload all the images after changing their titles. Chow has solved this with the Final burning threads... but I don't know how Foz is gonna do the HUge COW everytoone is working on. I still have to insist on outside hosts for EOW. I wish there was and easier way, but if there is I don't know it.

I hate to be ornery Elwell... but there is an exception. and that is work that you might want to post, with an image in more than one place on the forum. for example. someting one might want to post for critique, and in the activitys.... or to your sketchbooks.

I get that the attachment feature is great and all, but if CA and MB already has problems paying the bills, is it really worth attaching all your doodles and sketches, using up precious server space?

Just asking, if it works some other way, tell me.

    Question Adding codes

Is it a forbidden protocol to add the ".jpg" etc, code if it doesn't appear after clicking on "properties?"

Hmmm, the attachment feature is great, but having to shrink and optimize my pictures so they upload is a tad annoying. And other then that who likes to click links to pictures in order to view them?

    image shack .org

best place to hotlink and host images, free, and they always show up, plus there is no size resriction, etc.

just thought I'd throw that out there...

OMG, is it such a problem klick on "manage attachemnts" and upload a pic directly???? Plus, you have a thumbnail for better view. Screw photobucket, imageshack and other. You just upload it on CA and no problems. Just resize it (which is not a big deal anyway).
