Phil- Thanks man! Yeah, I've been meaning to do more skull studies. I also keep meaning to follow up un Gugg's bald-head suggestion. It's on the list!

Ryn- Thanks! Auugh, I've been lazy. School's been beating me down lately, but that's no excuse!

Like I said to Ryn, I'v been lazy! These gaps are makin' me SOFT, mang. Gotta get back in gear. I've been trying to give up any unnecesary computer time (not going so well) as well as staying off the TV and videogames. I should have more time in ~a week when my projects are done.

BUT I HAVE A PROBLEM- I've been going blank a lot lately. I sit down, and nothing comes anymore. It's bumming me out a bit. Current plan- Do more studies of artists I like, then do pieces inspired by what I learned. Also, do pretty much the entire Concept Art 101 thread. Any more suggestions?

And now- Taking a school doodle (1), trying to color it in Phil Hale pallatte (2, utter failure), then in DanielC's (3, better), then my own coloration based on what I learned (4). Learned a lot, I'll have to do this more often and apply the method to some line drawings.

You're making good progress. Keep it up! I think working through the concept art 101 thread could be a good way for you to generate some new ideas to expand on. You could also work on tightening up your digital technique, do some studies, explore different brushes, etc. You'll get through that slump.

    Bryan- Thanks!

More work on the TC. I'm trying work more in the comic medium, which I guess is funny, because I've never really read comic books. It's that damn Scott McCloud!

Life drawing. No Concept Art 101 yet, I've been finishing up some school stuff. I've got to get moving though if I'm gonna finish the TC.

BTW- Anyone else psyched about Paprika? I usually don't like anime, but I cannot wait for this to come out.

More work on the TC and a quick life drawing messing with line-weight. Completely re-organized the old hard to follow layout, and don't worry, it'll make a lot more sense with the text.

BTW- Citizen Cane is so much more amazing on the big screen than on a TV.

    Nice work man.
Though some mor ework on the planes of some of your digis would make them better =)
Also, try to work with geometric shapes in perspective for the car in the last update, it would be easier to understand and afterwards render it without difficulty.
just some thoughts, keep drawing !!

Dan- Thanks! Planes are on the list. I also started the car with boxes and such, they're just pretty faint.

    Hyptosis- Thanks a lot!

Mentler- Thanks! Yep, it's starting to come together a bit.

The recent deluge of school work is coming to an end. I had no time for liesure drawing today, but here's the finished car, a bridge and a study of Guernica, all for school. (PS, Guernica is fuckin' nuts, and hot shit I got a vote on the TC! Yeeesssss.)

Hey cup.... great update as always... don't sweat the creative dry spell... happens to the best of us.

I'm putting together a comic and would love to use something of yours if you'd be cool with it. of course you'd have free reign with content / story, etc. # of pages not so much. probably 2 at the very most. Can give you more details if necessary via PM, though some kind of chat might work a little better.

Some nice shadings you have made. The Louis Armstrong piece is awesome. Also Hiro is very recocnicable

I'm usually very bad at giving advice, but if I may, I think you need to use stronger lines here and there. Strong contours on the shaded side of the object, and thin lines on the bright side. Should give your pictures a bit more sense of depth.

    Keep up the good work!

Hmmm, what to draw. Definitely do the ConceptArt101 stuff. It's good for putting your observational skills to test, and apply them creatively.

Do some more master studies. Again, your observational skills are quite good, try to develop your own style now by adopting that which you like about other artists' work.

Check out Bobby Chiu's youtube videos if you haven't yet. He has some good advice on practicing and is generally an amazing inspiration that might spark something.

I like that boat very much. Maybe try doing some creative ship designs?

Gugg- Thanks man! Ohhh, so exciting!

Jho- That's something I've been trying to work on. It's going to the )near) top of the list!

Ryn- Once I get more time, Concept Art101 is first up. Master studies are on the list, and yes, I have seen the Chiu videos, but I should re-watch them anyway. Ships of the space and water varieties are also on my now endless list. Thanks!

Phew! Sorry for the absence! Been busy on some personal stuff that I can't burst the bubble on yet, but soon!

So- some doodles from imagination and zoo life sketches.

hopy you got out of that low watermark in creativity new! Trust me, you'll never run out of ideas completely! You just have to walk it off. Old DSGs and CHOWS are also good, cause then you have an initial idea to work on. Good zoo sketches, must be hard to draw fish from life!

    The Triumphant Return.

Serp- Thanks man, I think I've been jarred out of my rut. He he, it's funny because the fish were the only things at the zoo not running around, they were just kinda chilling there.

I know ther've been no update for a while, but TRUST ME, that does not mean no drawing. I still can't burst the bubble on this baby yet (I think?) But it's big, to me at least.

Anywho, now that my personal work is done and I've wrapped up the end of the quarter rush in school, here's some stuff: some PS doodles, and the return of Bridgeman!

    Woooooooo! I'm so tired! YES!
Got a solid 6-7 hours in today. My brain began rejecting Bridgeman after a while, so I had to switch to SPs and doos.

    So: Bridgeman and SPs. Phew!

    Looking great.
Those bridgman pages are solid and nice. Keep 'em coming!
For the last sp, the hatching is looking good, but be careful around the cheek!
also, don't hesitate to go further in the values if you can. The nose, eyes and mouth could use some.
    Keep drawing !

    nice work !
Something that would be interesting to see from you is a completly careless page, where you would just let the pencil go without thinking of measures and all, just pure fun and rawness. try to be as direct with your mind as possible.
    Keep working !

Dan- Thanks! As for the raw page, you may be able to tell that I've been trying to get in touch with my inner doo for a while now, and I think I'm finally making headway. Today, on the second to last piece, I just put down lines, not knowing where it was going as a whole, or even caring if they were correct. Oddly enough, most of the measurments came out pretty good without me blocking them out first. So, Thanks!

Today- Like I was telling dan, just getting in touch with my inner doo'er. All from imagination.

My new 14x11 SB makes that a bit easier, I think. Also, Gotta get off of wrist drawing, though, ya' know? Use that elbow more.

    Good pages.
Don't hesitate do them often after loads of studies. It's a good exercice to keep what you've learned in your head.
    Keep drawing !!

    dump from the past!

Finally got my stuff from school home (~2-3 months ago untill now). The art program here is pretty bad, but it's still 40 minutes 2-3 times a week when I get to draw in school.

Roughly chronological order. Old ends and today's begins ~the scratch board. Some are kind of big, so I had to piece them together.

After the old stuff, today: SPs and some doos.

EDIT EDIT EDIT- WHOA, whoa, whoa, WAIT, STARS!!!? Four of 'em?! How long have those been there! What!?
    Also, page 13, apparently.

Listen, someone needs to vote me down, these stars are freaking me out. You know who else has four? JENS! Something is not right with the system.

Been messing around more with ink. Using Q-tips in ink at school has been tons of fun, so th practice may extend towards home base.

Today- Messing with brush and ink, along with a base sketch for the new TC.
