Good with the studies! I like the loomis stuff at the top of the page. Also nice with some facial expressions! Do more of those. Nothing to crit on really. Keep it up!

wow studies are looking more and more solid with each post. I see major progress in your eye drawings. I also really like the second to last portrait you did. Real nice emotion, and tone work in that one.

dont forget to do some fun drawing once in a while. Just to keep ya loose and excited 'bout what you are drawling.

    btw Hiro rulez!!!

Wake101- Thanks! I'll do some fun stuff soon to prevent a burn out. BTW- Hiro should just be the whole show.

Dan- Thanks man, I'll work on it!

Screws for art class and a terrible SP. I'm going to just doodle for a while to prevent a burn out. Maybe some digis?

    Haha, FLYING MAN, WOOSH! ...woosh.

These last few updates are very strong. Your hard work is really paying off. The head studies are going to help a lot, your sp's are still a bit shaky. Try doing a bunch of unreferenced head studies, seeing what's weak, then thinking about those elements a lot as you do more anatomy studies.

    Keep going!

The wonky SP in post #675 is a bit wonky on the proportions, yes, but I can really see some solid form there too! I think it's good. It's probably good to take a pause and just do some doodles now and again (although I should take a pause and do studies now and again!)
    Keep it up, man!

Serp- Thanks, I really have to keep it in mind. I've nearly forgotten how to doodle!

Today was pure doodling. Mainly pen so I'd have less to worry about. A few used a feature reffed from loomis as a jump-start point.

oh my! you sure have come a long way from the start! and your determination is really paying off. thanks for inspiring me to do more anatomy studies
hey i also think you would really benefit from doing a master study like this one or some stuff like this
and then do a self portrait trying to use what you learned from the study. just my two cents.

Id say that, from those unrefed head studies, that you draw the top of the head too large and too round.

Also, when you do self portraits, try at least blocking in the shadows and highlights on your hair to give it some form. As is it kinda looks like a playdough helmet and the lack of attention doesn't help it - just because hair can be intricate doesn't excuse you from practicing it! *whipcrack*

    Dont stop now, Joe! gogogo!

Pennington- Thanks a lot! I probably plan in taking part in the new OFDW, maybe a few times. I'll be sure to try out that SP thing when I do those. I should probably work more on the old head-themed OFDW.

Ryn- Yep, you got it. I'll work on that. Eh, on the hair, I know. I've been far too lazy. No more! Blocking in is a problem though, since except in the brightest light, my hair is basically pure black.

Took a bit of a vacation there. Doodles, more pen, life drawings, and an SP. I'm particularly happy with the red and blue one. It's crayon on the back of an Eat'n Park menu.

Also, be sure check out TED, especially the TEDtalks. It's available over the site and in iTunes podcast form. Ken Robinson and Ze Frank are recommended ones.

Finally, I intend to follow a more ze-frank-ish outlook on creativity: putting out any idea I get into workable form as soon as possible, and constantly living in brainlock, under the risk that after I use up all my current ideas I will never have another, living the rest of my life as a potato, contributing nothing to society.

    heh

I've also gone on the record raving about the ted talks series: yay cup! If you haven't seen it yet check out the micheal shermer one. very entertaining.

I say get the ideas out of your head, mang... even if they're ill conceived, at least it's out of your system and frees up more mental HD space for better ones. The more you practice banging them out (both drawing wise and project wise) the better they will be each time.

drawings / paints looking good, i think i'm seeing some payoff from all that bridgman study... helps when designing figures from the mind i've found. careful trying to combine sets of parallel lines...focus on the outlines first and getting them right and then do at most one set of lines to describe what's going on there... Having two sets that meet up and kind of interweave is highly distracting and flattens out the form substantially. make the marks quickly too! nice anatomy study on this one... it seems like in some of the other figures below that though you might be kind of overbulbizing the shape of the head. like... it's a little flatter on the sides than on the top... in fact in some ways it is shaped like a rounded box. definitely look at some bald folks in profile to get the way that the skull goes back, slowly rising then falling.

Thanks for the EXCELLENT painting crit too...so helpful

all the best cuppa, hope all is well bro

    j

Thanks gugg! Yep, gonna try to crank 'em out. Good advice on the bald headed studies, too. It's tough finding pistures of skulls besides just front and side views.

Sorry for the silence, buncha crap going down around now. It should be cleared up in a few days, though. Anywho, a quick master study and some Louis Armstrong studies for a more finished piece for school.

More Sketchling work and the very beginnings of a master copy. I'd be further along, but I had to start over due to very wrong linework the first time.

    Alo !
THe pencils are shaping up pretty well. This one is a real leap forward. The values are spot on and it's getting harder to find some lines.
The last study you did is good too. The brush work's a bit confusing, but i guess you'll fix it later on.
    Keep posting monsieur!

DanC- Thanks! It's on the agenda.

Man! I guess it was only two day's without an update, but it feels like a week! School has been beating me down lately, but it should cool down in a week or so. So, here's pencil doodles and a sketch start to the new TC.

    Hi!

Good progress I see when looking back at the first page.

For heads have you tried to draw skulls only, then draw the flesh over it? It helps IMO (well it's been a while since I practiced anatomy...). You end up memorizing the very shape of the skull itself, which makes it easier afterwards to draw the head with proper volume. Drawing flesh "in the air" makes it difficult to avoid ending up drawing heads that feel flat or lack volume. Give it a shot if you want, and let me know what you think!

    Keep it up!

Ahhh, your crosshatching is lovely now. You're really paying good attention to the form and using it to your advantage. Great work. Now, is it just me, or are you drawing a lot less than you were a few months ago? It also looks like youre rushing things, slow it down and enjoy yourself.
