    DanC- Thanks man! Will do.

Got inspired bt Jens' Bridgeman's Life Drawing in one day, decided to begin to systematically plow through it. Im far from the end, but I hope to have it done by the end of Thanksgiving Break. Well, it got me going anyway, and 21 pages in a day isn't bad for me. I need to pick it up a notch anyway.

Today- Bridgeman, plus some hands from life on the last page.

Hey CoJ, nice BMan, keep it up. He can help alot, but may also hurt without some supplements. Recommended reading would be "Masterclass in Figure Drawing" by Robter Bev. Hale, great book, talks alot about massing (Look up Cambiaso, seriously!) Cambiaso seems to have been a foundation for bridgman- he does these sketches and sketches of block people- all in perfect perspective, great scenes, great drama! Try copying some of his figures/BGs, it is fun and educational as heck!

I'll drop by everyone's books when I get some time.

    bhanu- Thanks for dropping by!

Justin- Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to check those out.

I am now officially done with this sketchbook, and tomorrow I'll start #5. If you count my Moleskin, I think that's 600 pages this so far this year. Not bad.

Today- Cruddy SP and a hand, but my scanner just stopped working, so only the SP.

SP's are getting much better! The one in post #545 has really good form, but the eyes aren't aligned... When you do bridgeman or loomis studies, do you copy from the book or just draw 'as they would'? Because if you do copy them, with the massive amount of Bridgeman stuff you've done, you should be pretty familiar with his style, where to put the lines and how to draw the muscles. Try drawing a pose completely out of your head, books closed. Concentrate completely on proportions, cause now i think that is your biggest problem with the poses. You know where to put the myscles and stuff, let that run automatically. Proportions first, as you said yourself!

Of course, if you're not copying directly from the book, ignore this.

    OH MY GAWD!!!!

Joe im so proud of you
your improving.... hmmm.. i hope your doing well.

Hmm I better order the bridgeman book today. I knowhow you recommened me that book. and I forgot to buy it. Maybe it can help me out as well.

Also, with your faces. Dont forget about the details. like with your eyes and arround the eyes.

Remeber the face isnt flat. it has indentations, which can be represented by lines. I hope I make sense.

Serp- Definitely advice i should follow, and probably advice I've heard before. Going to try and work more works from mind into the mix. Thanks man!

White Rose- Hehe, thanks! Uggh, eyes. Gotta work on them. Keep at it!

    Oh, and happy Thanksgiving, all!

Today- two pages of life drawing, two pages of figures from imagination, and an SP that got out of hand.

    Still recovering.
Today- An SP I liked, which I then butchered with a pen, some figures from imagination and some heads from imagination.

Drawing time will be reduced soon due to school work, and depending if I get a Wii, but only for a week at most.

    Hey cup!
Nice updates man.. the lines are getting better.
Something that might help you is outlining very lightly the separation between lights and darks.. and the values in them.
Check out Erik gist (dunno if spelled correctly) tutorials. They can help you on getting more details on the shapes at an early stage of the drawings.
    Keep working dude !

My SPs all look the same.....

DanC- Thanks! Thanks for the tips. Erik Gist, eh? I'll check him out. Is he on CA, or should I just search for him?

    Serp- Thanks man!

Today- Took DanC's advice on today's SP and divided the values. Just lines and one added value, but I think it really came out great. Also tried some line weight. Plus a Bridgman figure.

    Ohshitsmarkodvd!

How long do oils take to dry!?

What do you know, another missed update!
Visted my sister's college art class, tried some oil paints. Fun stuff, but I'm going to stick with line for a while. However, none of them are dry yet, so I can't scan them now, but expect them tomorrow.
Today- Some life dawings, none of which I'm very happy with. More tomorrow, but I can't scan them because they're on the opposite side of oil paintings that are not dry.

    Hyptosis- Thanks!

Here's those oil paints. I'm not very happy with either. The top half of the first came out bad, and the second was badly damaged in transport.
    Today- Oil and pencil SPs.

    Hey dude.
Since you have so many pages, i decided to be sneaky and skip straight to the this last page. Huge improvements from page 1 man!
Give yourself a big pat on the back and a cookie, too.
Keep it up. That last monochrome painting is really cool.

You may also wanna check out the videos series, "Drawing the human figure from your mind" by Riven Pheonix. I've only just started watching them, and i can already see improvements in my own drawing.

EDIT: There's a thread somewhere for the videos, or just search for it on youtube.

HunterKiller_- Thanks man! I'll definately check it out, though I STILL haven't even finished the Bobby Chiu videos, so it may be a while.

Schools winding down a bit, so drawing will once again be removed from the back burner, at least momentarily.

Today- Rough sketch of an idea for the teen challenge. I want to get thhis good, because if by some freakish chance I win (yeah right), I don't want something I dislike to be the mascot.

MrBobMarley- Thanks! I'll dabble a little, but I think I'm going to try and get better at line and value first.

drd- Hehe, I love not having to check if I spelled your name wrong. Thanks!

Finished some big projects that have been piling up, so hopefully drawing time will boost soon.
THE PLAN- Keep working with line, but mix in some basic value here and there. When I feel it's time to move on, I'll start doing more rendered pencil pieces, and maybe mix in some greyscale oil studies. Then, PS colored pices supplemented by color oils. Plus my usual studies. How's it sound?

Today- A not so good tribute to a very fantastic film. Wow this sucks.

if you haven't seen Doctor Zhivago yet, DO SO POST HASTE!

I'm back on track! I'm starting to get a better grasp on school and my time, so hopefully that will all be under control soon. It will never stay that way forever, but I want to maintain a sturdy drawing time for as long as possible.

Today- A school sketch that I scanned and messed with. I actually turned into what I consider my most "Finished" piece so far. All crits are welcome if you think I can take this further! The flame was added as a last minute thought , so that may go. Also, some PS doodles.

    Hy Ninja/Repeal day!

    Ugghh. I ache.
Scot McCloud is comin' thursday, so I'll be there. I may update the Pittsburgh thread just to check if there will be other CAer's there.

Today- Figures from imagination and a cruddy SP. The upper right section (neck, arm) of the second figure came out good, but I may go back and change the rest.

Yes, today is a magical combination of the Day of the Ninja and Repeal day, the day the prohibition was ended and Americans forever earned thier right to get totally shitfaced. Isn't it a beautiful country?

Hmm- judging on your sketches, it seems like you get the IDEA behind block forms and planes, but you aren't seeing in them yet. Take a national geographic, and draw a wireframe over every pic in sharpie- with only straight lines. I think that might really help you to see in a more planar sense. Use value shifts to help you, as opposed to preconceptions. Do it with animals as well as humans. Seeing in Planes helps with value (as a plane turns away from alight source, depending on how sharp it is turning, it will get gradually darker. Sometimes it is a sharper line then others, other times it's hardly noticeable (Perhaps on a cube face).

Anyways, try that out. I think I will also try it out actually...

Justin- Thanks, I'll try that out!

Went to see Scott McCloud speak today. Great stuff, and I suggest you check and see if you can see him yourself.

    Today- Life Drawings.

I've also decided to put off the purchase of the wii, perhaps indefinately. I regained a big chunk of my day when I gave up videogames, and I'm not ready to give that up again, at least not yet.

Serp- Yeah, that was pretty last minute. I did have a big grand idea for a BG, but realized that it made my lightsource make no sense, so that was scrapped. Maybe later.

Today- ALL IMAGINATION. Mostly random shape doodles. The last page is the end result, my 3 main ideas for the Teen Challenge Mascot. Why do I always procrastinate?

Also, if you like indie, check out BAGeL Radio this Friday! Best of the Year show! Google it or just go to Alt in the radio section in iTunes!

    drd- Thanks man!

Work on the Teen Challenge. Broke the rule of keeping the whole painting at around the same stage. Anyway, no refs used, so probably loads of mistakes. Anything could change at this point. Any and all CRITS WANTED!
