obx: yes it is, after setting the color down i created a new layer set to linear burn actually and gave it the bevel imboss effect. Then with just painting with the color pure white and setting the opacity and flow which act like different heights. Only bad thing about it is when the image isnt flattened the bevel imboss effect is distorted when your painting from a farther zoom, sometimes if u just adjust the layers opacity it will look more like it would when u flatten or save for web. .

Infinit: Thanks man I've been having trouble making backrounds in the past, im glad that it is making improvment.

Heres a sketch i did last night, Extending it to put his horsey in, been far too long since i revisted the cowboy

havent done any ink sketching in a loooong time!. Here was 5 minutes, I think im going to explore mixing some mediums together with ink work, it would be nice to have some physical work done for a change. I just tried some red really quick with a colored pencil to see how it would react with the india ink. Wish it came out brighter but oh well, i wonder if theres a similar alternative.

I wasnt thinking about anything really here.

im sorry for the shitty pictures but i have no other choice at the moment...still wet. Here's my second ever oils attempt that i did tonight on some canvas paper. I figured since I got these supplies i should use em right? I'm going to buy some bigger paper because i dont like working small while trying to learn this medium.

interesting oil painting. Im guessing it to be a bit stylized with the hair and everything. Oly thing is that the nec is too long. Other than that, keep on expanding.

I absoulutely love your sketches, all of them are so inspiring, I'm definately subscribing to this thread. Your pencil work is my favourite, though your digital work is pretty awsome. Keep up the amazing work.

thanks njord-e55: sadly the clip board the painting i did , did a 10 10 10 scoreboard diving board tripple flip in the air and landed face down on the flow. The paint got smeared, fuck! oh well there will be more in the future. Thanks for pointing out the neck. And yes I was just trying to get a handle on the oils so I wanted to make things fun with a lil stylization.

Spazo: Gee didnt know i inspired people around here, makes me feel all gay and warm inside. Thanks man.

I was preping another peice of canvas paper with a sketch. I decided to throw it in ps to do a lil color study and ended up just fucking around, and looked all comicy.
Bow down to my insane writing skills.:p

Pencils digis which one? Oh well ill just do both, but im going to be doing more tradiontional work for now, even though it will be sucky, i think it will help me grow a bit more.

Kain. Thanks man! Actually that futuristicwar peice made me think about you fro some reason. I think some of your enviros are rubbing off on me. Thanks and yes I am well these days!

The color exercise from the last post really inspired me! I think i maybe onto something here. As I see myself progressing(if i am at all) I see that all my coloring work looks different and Im remembering how I'm acheiving these different looks. So i decided to take another exploration and i needed something to color quick so i just picked a random picture out of my sketchbook to do another experimentation. I came up with this. I just may in the future do a graphicnovel or comic based on this look(woah kresh! dont get ahead of yourself) Things are looking less bleak for my future in art, and i know that i have a lot things to work on to get better, and I should start tackleing them pronto! [/rant]

So basically what i do is just start of blocking in colors in a linearburn layer over the drawing. I do this instead of multiply because i think it acts more like ink rubbing in over the line work making them darker and the contrasts from dark to light. Then create a normal layer over that to put some solid paint color in the mix(i did this mainly in the wolvie sketch)
I know it isnt near sketch/finished, but it inspired me to start a new drawing to render over

And heres the other one a lil more fleshed out

blah blah with the sketcher, actually looked better when there where just lines. Server reset so i had to stop this one. I've been fooling with new brushes that i made too.

I found my dads techincal drafts from when he worked in engineering machines for this tool making company. They will make excellent brushes.

wicked schematics overlay!!! like the colorus on that last sketch, if you were to define the head a bit more and the upper part of his jacket it would look ace! Any progress on the mohawk leather jacket guy??? curious to see how that one turns out

I like these messy dark digital pieces, totally up my avenue. You've got some cool sketches underneath, but you can hardly tell what's going on undernath all the overlay. A little more indication of form would help. And although the text is a little lacking ( ) that Wolverine page is pretty dope. Lots of great shit going on here man.

Aren't you in Chicago too? We have to put our feet down and get a sketchgroup going man.

You got some really cool stuff going on, man! Sweet and original style. I agreee a little cleaning up in the otherwise kickass texturing and more focus on the figures would benefit the final resualt, but i dig it still! The painting from October 7th reminds me alot of Kurt Trampedach (danish painter, but he has been working in NYC for many years). Check him if you dont know - im sure you will like him.
Cheers(hehe), man - great progress and cool work!

YES! Im alive and breathing in Chicago, I live out in skokie so I'm not that far from the city. Or wait...dont your ass live out in schaumbaurg or was that someone else? But yeah most defenitaly we need to get together my ass needs some artistic friends for a change.

Fellah: Awww thank you kind Fellah The artist you mentioned has some cool works, never heard of him before but thanks for telling me definatly inspiring.

For some reason after my last post i've been doing shitty artwork :p I dunno.
Heres a 2 sketches i managed to make decent enough.

And i messed around and made a sheet to place some character(s) on.

I was drinking while doing that one, got drunk and did this.

    Keep 'em coming!

Yeah i've been really fucking busy lately remodeling some crazy ladys house
No way, I thought I was the only remodel/hard labor guy on here hehehe. I do electrical, and remodels are always a bitch. They always think shit is so easy cause of those retarded shows on tv. Onto the art.

Your works scream grim and gritty at me and it fits your style. I like the graphic element in your digis and your pencils lately are improving so much. Great idea with your dad's drafts, I like the effect.

    More when you got em!

Really late for me guys so Ill give some replies tommorow
But heres another sketch/wip who knows.
I was going for a boney/mechanical structure here for the backround and im happy with where i'm going. Morely relying on manual premediated shapes rather than using custom brushes for this one.
