Skeksis 1:4 statue WIP from DARK CRYSTAL

I always wanted a good Skeksis statue but it seems nobody's doing one.
So I decided to do it myself.

(................... see new pic below. )

Still lot of work with texturing...

Hope you like it so far.
    Thanks for looking!

wow. This is incredible. I don't have any clue what Dark Crystal is, but I'm going to have to go find out now. Your handling of wrinkles and folds is just pro.
You doing full body or just a bust? (or is HE just a bust? 0_o)

    Very nice!

Wern't those the "bad guys"? He looks a little too nice maybe but the craftsmanship is excellent.

Laszlo: I can't wait to see the rest. Unfortunately, I don't quite remember all the details from the movie. I thought the warts were a little random tho. I could be wrong.

Wow, this is so amazing cool. I'm such a huge Jim Henson fan and you definitely captured the look of the skeksis. I've seen lots of gelfling sculpts and dolls but never a skeksis before.

Let's just say that whenever someone talks about wine or history, I solicit that '86 was a good year.

And childhood? hehe. I'm just a soulless robot with a mechanical heart. And more pain receptors than I want.

Looked it up on wikipedia anyway. I like this a lot more. I thought it looked Hensonic.

I think that it looks good. Even better when it's painted hopefuly. Good luck, is it going to be the whole body or a bust or just a head?

Wow, you are truly missing out on one of the best movies EVER made. Jim Henson was the man.

This sculpture is looking amazing so far, are you going to do the entire body? Clothed or as he was when they exiled him?

Good looking piece, you seem to have found the secret formula for keeping sculpey dust free!
Any chance of seeing some more pics of your Bowie sculpt?

Yeah how did you manage to keep it so clean? I constantly use baby wipes while sculpting to keep my hands clean and I wash my tools down after every sculpting session and I still can't keep my sculpts clean (I'm sure the 2 dogs and 3 cats don't help).

Those of you who haven't seen the Dark Crystal go out and buy it, not rent it buy it, it's the greatest use of puppets ever. It's worth owning just to study the creature design which is excellent. Jim Henson was truly a genius and having Brian Froud working on character design didn't hurt either.

Not sure on the size but the medium is definitely Super Sculpey (you can tell by the distinctive pink color).

A full statue in clothed form would be cool. But not sure yet, as it will be huge!

You're right, it is FIMO (same as sculpey I think).

Well, it isn't 100% clean, it still has some dust. But what I'm doing is putting the sculpt in the glass showcase after each sculpt session. That helps a bit.

And you're right, DARK CRYSTAL is the best puppet movie ever made!
(Well, those are animatronics, just like the Yoda puppet).

Wow Laszlo! This is the first chance I've had to see this and it just blew me away! Awesome sculpt man! You did a phenomenal job on the likeness and the smoothness of the sculpt is just beautiful. Great job!

    Very, very cool.
I remember when The Dark Crystal came out like it was just yesterday, I was so psyched I watched the TV specials about how they did the animatronics, and those guys with stilts for the long-legged critters, and those big black beetle guys.. just an awesome movie really.

    Thanks guys!

We deffinitely need more Dark Crystal sculpts. I haven't seen many and most aren't really good.
I would love to have well made Gelflings (those from Sideshow are disappointing IMO).
Labyrinth is another cool movie with great characters/creatures. Haven't seen any of those made yet.

I've been thinking of sculpting Ludo or Sir Dydimus for my brother, he's a huge Labyrinth fan. I may not start it for quite a while though he's leaving for Japan for a whole year right after New Years so I wouldn't be able to give it to him until he gets back.

well i'm doing something that's kinda inspired by the landstriders in dark crystal, but it's my first sculpt and the legs are already different (but better i think) than in my original design. (see the newest post in my thread, the pictures in the first are of poor quality, but all that's changed now)
