i think the weakest part is the cast shadow to the left. rest is nice rendering. u may push the contrast a bit further tho.

Wow! That's beautiful! It really looks like a plaster of paris portrait! I like it! I think that the darker blue area near his left eyebrow is a bit strange, though. If you continued with that blue look through the rest of the picture, that would be good, but don't make it too dark or it will lose the "soft white plaster" feel. By the way, did you have a real bust to use as reference? If you didn't, this is great!

like ender said, definitely try to push the contrast. Wherever there is a cast shadow dark enough, put whit lighting beside it to really rpoject the pic (If it makes enough sense)

    Progress

I wanted to respond to the posts about the underpainting. (I think) what you're referring to is the scumbled in underpainting. It's definately a lighter value overall compared to the final pass.

I've included an updated image. The nose has been added as part of the final pass. Eventually, the whole painting will be covered like this.

    Thanks for posting,

    Smith

I'm really digging everything here, its really hard and mostly pointless to attempt to crit a cast drawing without being there unless the issue is a technical one.

I was just curious about how you did your underpainting, it looks a lot softer (almost like a wash) then anything I have done, did you not use a stiff bristle brush on it?

    underpainting

    Gray,

    I used a bristle round, I think around a 4.
Mostly I used a drybrush technique with only a little paint in the brush. Works kind of like a pencil etc. For larger coverage maybe a little turps added.
