Hey M@, these last few speed paints and digitals and things are totally great! They make me want to crank up the 'ol Painter again. Or photoshop, if I don't feel like bogging down my machine. Anywho...

How 'bout some sketches?! The paints are rocking my face off, but I love your sketches too, postpostpost!

I was just wondering what kind of art training you had? if any, or just a quick summary of how you got to where you are now, I mean your only 23! Im 16 and here is my first real photoshop painting other then some sketches.

    banhatin : xie xie ni

donkeyslayer : hehe, this was pretty accidental. Tried to take advantage of it, though

Atmospheria : and I'm waiting for you to connect so I can give you the lines! thanks mate!

majinpunisher: thanks. Here we go for sketches!

flex matthews : thanks, yeah we're having fun.

    hurricane : thanks man.

rblitz7 : thanks. Mm I don't have any real "art training" . mostly self-taught, thanks for the internet too. Forums are a real boost. That's a great sketch here. Wish I did that when I was 16.

Summer Pudding : hehe, my brain is too messy to live in. Thanks a lot man!

Some Louvre drawing sessions sketches. Been drawing statues for now, trying to go there every wednesday and friday evening after work... That's very refreshing after so much digital work. Makes me realise how much using undo and having the opportunity to change stuff at will made me lose confidence in traditional line work.

And the sketch I sent to Atmospheria to color.

    Hello Mathias,

Yes man. The undos and simmetries.. damn they get you spoiled and the live drawing around people and under different situations and lightings etc... its very different.. very real and very alive.

Your work is still consistent. 2d/digital/3d It reads Mathias all over. That alone is a major achievement.

I love the way the light swims on your subjects.

    superb.

    Salut

    Mario

Hey these are really great sketches. What's the ref? The two that really stand out to me are the last sketch, the tooned one ( I love the pose), and the one of the man playing a flute? The rear shot, its totally great. I love it. Glad that you were kind enough to take to heart my request for sketches!

Cant wait for the next batch!

M@! You took me off guard, bud. I was expecting to see more speed paints! What a lovely depature and a great inside glimpse to the depth of your abilities. Wonderful studies. Keep up the good work!
    Cheers!

Flaskpost : thanks. Can't wait to see it colored either. Emrah is good!

    Recursive_End : merci

Diego : thanks man. I'll post more when I can. I'm working as concept artist / 3D modeler / lighter ... whateverer at AOKI :http://www.aokistudio.com

marioucci : thanks cuzao. (I already forgot the other insults) you're way too kind... but I appreciate it

majinpunisher : thanks man. No problem. As I said, the refs are real statues in that great museum that is the Louvre (which is more a castle full of some of the greatest classical art in the world than a simple "museum".. thanks to that high-class thief called Napoleon Bonaparte ). The last sketch (digital) is not from ref.

redehlert : thanks! yeah hehe, only now after all those pages does the thread become a proper "sketchbook".

very very nice halle berry study.. i think that elbow bumps out just a tad too much, and just for the practice, you may want to render the hair out a bit more, since everything else is so tight.. minor minor crits though.. looks great

    This is simply amazing.
You bring out the mood and light in your environments, thoug one or two of them simply are too much texture, i love it.
    Great Halle Berry study!.

Supercolor : thanks; and yes that's her. 8)

    kyi_72 : thanks.

    Mindflaw : thank you

EVIL : and for quoting a big image.

    digital_robotics : hehe thanks a lot

Main Loop : hey thanks man, glad you like. actually I just looked at the ref again, the outline of the elbow is that bumpy, but my values are wrong. I made it a bit too bright, making it stick out value-wise. So you're right, you've got a good eye And yeah, sorry about the hair. This piece is 1 month old I intended to post it atthe same time as the louvre studies, but kinda forgot that and let the pic unfinished. I should definitely work the hair.

    Lazy, thanks!
