This week we are having a weekly crossover with Industrial Design of the Week! Both weeklies have the same topic, however the approach will be different. Because of this, taking a visit to both threads will be sure to provide inspiration.
The basic concept: There is a materials refinery which is orbiting a planet as it sources its material. What planet and what material being processed is completely open.
This week is a tag team week. I want to see how you guys work with each other on an environmental level.
- Your entry must be a collaborative effort between you and another artist.
Winners: Dile_ and SMILEFACE
Runner-ups: Snafu & Flame Unquenchable
"You were only lost because you had no heading." Said the Commodore of the Lost Fleet. "That's our purpose son, to give the lost a heading..."
With that he set us ashore in the waning light of day, Ugolino watched from his metal carapace as they floated away into the misty sunset. I looked into the blackness of light and shadow looming above us. This might be salvation for Ugolino. At last I saw the course we must take; into that place of stone, glass, and steel.
Man, that shit would be crazy. I'm willing to be it will be an issue in the next 100 years or so. We'll have to make a decision to buy the household bot, or the defense bot. I'm definitely getting myself a monkey bot."
According to Welsh tradition, the Adar Llwch Gwin were giant birds, similar in kind to the griffin, which were given to a warrior named Drudwas ap Tryffin by his fairy wife. The name derives from the Welsh words llwch ("dust") and gwin ("wine"). These birds were said to understand human speech and to obey whatever command was given to them by their master. However, on one occasion, when Drudwas was about to do battle with the hero Arthur he commanded them to kill the first man to enter the battle. Arthur himself was delayed and the birds immediately turned on Drudwas and tore him to pieces. Later, in medieval Welsh poetry, the phrase Adar Llwch Gwin came to describe all kinds of raptors including hawks, falcons, and, on occasion, brave men.

This week's environment topic is to create a train station in any genre. It has to include the train and if it is a passenger train, a system to unload passengers. If it is a freight train then it should include a system to unload its freight. Use your imagination but remember to focus on the machinery and function of the train station!
Train Station, Unknown City, Year 2036. Still travelling on the ground using gravity on magnetic field cushion with speeds reaching 500 km/h
Image is not finished as I managed to run out of time. I started with massing model in 3d Max, added details and textures in PS and painted over. I planned to add stripes of glowing ads and more futuristic touches but this will have to wait untill next week. You are looking at 70% finished work. For the final version please check out my blogger - yatzenty.blogspot.com Thanks
"The hangar was badly damaged. Badly? Catastrophically even. Debris everywhere. Wreckage that a sci fi author couldn't even hope to describe in accurate detail. Captain, I guess this means you'll have to see it for yourself. The graphic detail; the sad remnant of a monolithic structure" ----- "ROGER THAT."
We have a special crossover and partner edition of Industrial Design of the Week and EOW this week. There are a few things that are a bit different this time round- this will be a 2 person partner round. Each team must submit to both IDW and EOW.
Merfolk Colony: As an advanced underwater culture, they have created many intriguing items to help them in their day to day lives, and to help them understand our world. Your task is to show 2 of any of the following technologies:
A) Earthnet Research Station- a mer and human joint floating research vessel/platform/station/pod. This was created to help bridge the gap of knowledge between the terrestrial world and the aquatic, as well as taking advantage that multiple viewpoints can give to other fields of research.
B) Farm Drone- Crops such as seaweeds and fish are important underwater crops. Huge areas of kelp forests and spawning corrals exist around the world and are tended by agricultural drones.
C) Underwater Ambulance- A fast and stable carrier which transports the injured to a medical care facility.
D) Tide Power Generator- The never ending movement of water as caused by the Moon is a completely renewable and environmentally safe power safe that is accessible everywhere. These generators come in a variety of sizes for different purposes.
E) Land Prosthesis- A vehicle for the Mer body that allows brief visits on land primarily in order to deal with terrestrial folk. These are key for trade and diplomatic visits, though that by no means is the limit of their use.
Please note again that this is a 2 person partner round! Each team must submit to both IDW and EOW. Teams submitting to only one or the other will not be taken to poll. As such, the names of both partners must be on the final entries even if only one partner worked on that specific image.
This is an open topic. Think about the atmosphere of your piece and how cold it should look being that it takes place in the most severely freezing part of winter, wherever it is. This is also all up to interpretation too because the phrase "dead of winter" can be many things, not just literal.
Aurora just started its beautiful display on the December sky but Sir Galahad did not have time to cast his eyes on it, he had to be focused...movement in his armor was very difficult that freezing, whisper quiet night. The dead was awaiting his victim and there was nothing anyone could do to prevent it. Soon the silence will be broken...
For this special round, you can interpret this topic pretty widely. Imagine that you are a traveler and you are gazing out over a vast desert horizon, or standing atop a snow mountain and surveying the treacherous path set before you by nature. Think about this topic openly and broadly. Focus on the sense of having a long journey ahead of you and let your spirit guide you to whatever destination awaits you.
